I've got 3 bags of dates in the cupboard....bought 'em when i was trying to stop eating so many biscuits, but I'm sick of them now!
Does anyone have any nice recipes i can use them in? I've seen the Banana & Date biscuit one, but couldn't find any more
I won't feel so guilty eating biccies if i know I've put something healthy in them :T

I happened to make a fruit loaf tonight with some dates in it. The recipe is in the mega index, but for the sake of simplicity I'll type it out again:
NB - this is in "cups" - this is not a reference to the American cup measures. It's a reference to any old cup you find in the cupboard. I use a straight sided ordinary mug as it's easier to judge/guess half a cup of sugar.
1 cup of tea (or milk)
1 cup of All-Bran (going a bit soft is OK, Bran Flakes works too)
Half a cup of sugar (I used a quarter cup of sugar, and a quarter cup of Splenda)
1 cup of dried fruit - tonight I used a third of a cup of pumpkin seeds, a third of a cup of dried pineapple chunks which are on special in Barrett & Holland at the moment, and the remaining third was chopped up dried dates
Put all of the above in a big bowl, mix it up together and leave for at least half an hour so that the bran is completely soft. It can be left overnight. NB it doesn't matter if the tea is still hot when you use it.
Next put 1 cup of self-raising flour into the bowl and mix everything up really well. You could grate some nutmeg in with the flour, or other spicy things - totally up to yourself if you want to do this. If the mixture is a bit dry put in a splash of milk, though I have never done this.
Put everything into a greased 1lb loaf tin.
Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180 degrees for 45 minutes.
Sorry that the instructions are a bit long - don't let that put you off. It is as easy as falling off a log and tastes fantastic. You could make it a date only loaf - no need to use different types of fruit or seeds if you don't want to. I make it a bit different every time, sometimes using the cheapest value dried fruit only, sometimes using sunflower seeds combined with raisins and some dessicated coconut...anything I have in really. It has never failed.

Sparkly
I made some date flapjack the other day and it was yummy!
Here's the recipe if anyone wants to make it ...
6oz butter
4oz brown sugar (usually 6oz but reduced it as the dates were also rolled in sugar)
2tbsp syrup
12oz rolled oats
2-4oz chopped dates
Bake in moderate oven, gas 4 (think that's 180C) for 25-30 mins."An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"
~
It is that what you do, good or bad,
will come back to you three times as strong!

I once had some homemade date wine, complete rocket fuel and as good as any desert wine such as Moscatel de Valencia .
Just an idea !
