Ideas for dates please

Yes, sorry must have hit the caps thingy by mistake. Why it's 15 oz and not 16 oz, i.e. 1lb, I've no idea.

In a fit of OS moneysaving, DH went to our local Indian grocers and got huge bags of rice and lentils (as instructed by me), but also came home with a bag of fresh dates. They're about the size of small plums, yellow, and still on the stem. But - they're rock solid! I've got absolutely no idea what to do with them, and of course DH didn't actually ask our friendly grocer what to do with them. So, I throw myself on the mercy of the all-knowing MSE forum...Before you criticise a man, walk a mile in his shoes. Then, when you do criticise him, you're a mile away and you have his shoes.0

My husband has just come back from Oman. He was given as a present 2 large bags of very sticky fresh dates that the chap had grown.
What should I do with them? Will they be OK. How should I store them?
Nice recipe ideas appreciated0 -
I'd just eat them, but there's an Indian sweetmeat I buy in Bradford that seems to be just date, nuts and cardamom.
My computer is having a tricky day, so I can't look quickly for a recipe, but I'm sure either someone here or a search will produce one.0 -
Here's a cake recipe that needs fresh dates (and lots of courgettes...). I've not tried it but I have made cakes which use oil instead of butter or marge before, and they've all turned out fine. http://www.abc.net.au/canberra/stories/s1648564.htmBefore you criticise a man, walk a mile in his shoes.
