Hey! Guys.
I think an explanation is in order:
Nifty & bsod: At the end of last year my Packard Bell PC finally gave up the ghost and failed to even switch on. I decided to buy another @£350, ordered it and a printer before fully understanding the spec of the computer which I later realized didn't include speakers so I cancelled the delivery of the PC but kept the printer.
My Daughter said I could have her computer because which she never uses it as she now relies on her mobile phone.
So, the PC I'm now using is:
Fujisu Siemens Intel(R)
Pentium 4 CPU 3.6GHZ
2.37GHS 512MB of Ram.
Unfortunately, This one also runs Windows XP.
Since receiving your helpful advice I have now reinstalled Firefox (again) and again run ccleaner and system cleanup followed by a defrag.
The PC seems to be behaving a lot better now and I haven't had a "Not Responding" since.
If the problem returns I will have to look again at buying either a PC or a Laptop.
So once again I would like to thank you for your advice. You have all been very helpful.

I really think that it is time for you to move on.
Whilst that spec betters than the Packard Bell, it is still relatively inadequate. You find yourself waiting for things to happen and the computer not able to respond as it is busy with something else.
That's why I think an intermediate PC, capable of running Windows 7 and upgradeable to Windows 10, is ideal for you.
It's a big step up from what you currently utilise, but for a small outlay.
Your current PC is second hand. But the problem is that it is twelve years old.
The PC to which I linked is half that age and should last you quite a few years. Even if you added an SSD along the way and you used the thing for five years, that works out to under £20 per annum.
If you buy a new PC, you'll be stuck with Windows 10, whether you like it or not.0 -

I keep getting the dreaded 'Not Responding' box whilst trying to load pages with Firefox. As if that isn't enough I'm also getting 'unresponsive script' messages. Is there anything I can do to reduce this constant nuisance?. I'm still using Windows XP which is no longer getting updates and this old PC is not compatible with anything newer.
This might help, or might not.......
There's a setting in FF that makes in wait a little longer for a server response before it throws up that message.
It the current age of internet censorship a simple DNS request takes a little longer than it really should, meaning your browser needs to wait a little longer before it assumes there's an issue. I remember I had to change a setting in FF because I was having the same issue some years ago.
I know people are now going to jump in and start banging on about Google DNS, so i'll throw "DNS hijacking" and "Port 53 hijacking" into the mix, so they can do their research before responding.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Sometimes after the "Not Responding" message, another message saying "How embarrassing" pops up from Firefox and then asks if I want to restore the previous pages, and then another saying that the error will be reported. But as I've said before, since I've acted on the advice given here, things are running a lot better.Trying to learn something new every day.0 -
You used to be sort of helpful ..
now you're trolling.
read the thread carefully before joining in. The crux of it was me trying to identify why a software error message was occurring, in order to provide a solution, like what normal people do. first suggestion:reinstall firefox
Another poster (not you this time) chose to be critical of my attempt at help (which is fine until the insults started), because he was under the impression that the machine is physically incapable of browsing the internet without firefox producing a 'not responding' or 'unresponsive script' message. It turns out, he was wrong.Oldbiggles wrote: »I have now reinstalled Firefox (again) and again run ccleaner

I read the thread , the crux of it was you chomping at a non existent bit.
No body said the machine was incapable of hitting the internet because of its age however it was pointed out that the age of the machine would make for a very poor user experience
I dont wish to argue , i was just making an observation so i wont reply again0
