Can someone help me please?

I have just purchased a new Nokia 6300 PAYG from Tesco Direct for the Mrs.

We want to put her existing Sim card in it, which is an O2 sim.

Now I was always under the impression that Tesco and O2 were linked in some way and have in the past used Tesco sims in O2 phones.

I presumed that it would be visa versa and I could use an O2 sim in a phone purchased from Tesco.

When I put the O2 sim in the phone it comes up as "phone restricted" and asks me to key in a number....

What do I do?

Can Tesco provide me with the number to allow me to use the O2 sim?

Is this something O2 could do as I wish to use one of their sims?

Should I contact Tesco Direct and attempt to return the phone for one that can use different Sim cards?

you need to pay for the code from Tesco's

Tesco sims will work in an O2 phone but not the other way

I have just spoken to Tesco Direct Mobile help Line. They say that all I need to do is put £30 credit on my Tesco sim and call them back. They will then start the process and in 28 days will provide me with the number to key in, to unrestrict it.

Meanwhile I can use the £30 credit to make calls etc

Thanks again for getting these codes for me and apologies for (i) the very long delay in replying and (ii) wasting your time. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough time before my Dad was going away so he went to his local market to get the phones unlocked.

I'm pleased to say that he was able to use his phone in S Africa with a local SIM with no problems which has saved him and us here back in the UK a fortune - the MSE international call checker is a dream.
