Free Unlock codes for Nokia Phones 7 (U.K. Networks Only)

Hello, i wonder if anyone can help or shed some light on my situation.

I bought a nokia 6111 for my wife and got a code to unlock from t-mobile around a month ago, i put the code in and it seemed to work a treat, i even put my own vodafone sim in and it worked so i put the phone away as it was a christmas present. I have just got the phone back out to register a sim card on it but all i get is no sim inserted message on screen and the same thing happens with all sim cards vodafone, o2 and the original t-mobile one, i really cant see what is wrong?? can anyone help or i'll be in the doghouse!!

sounds to me like a hardware fault or possibly a software fault
