  • (this is the first time in my life I'm posting to a forum so please forgive me if I don't get this quite right!)

I'm trying to unlock a couple of old Nokia 5110s to take to a charity in Vietnam which desperately need mobiles for their use. The Nokias used to run on O2 PAYG SIMs. But when I insert my Virgin card in them nothing happens (i.e. no signal is registered ). I've therefore tried to unlock them using the following codes:
    IMEI: 449218307479524
    #pw+2205785434+1#
    #pw+3907337741+2#

But it comes up with a message saying SIM unrestricted! When I took them to a mobile stall I was told that they are single band handsets and would only work with O2 or Vodafone SIM cards. Is this true? Does it mean that they won't work in Vietnam (which uses GSM 900/1800)? Is there a way of unlocking them? I'm leaving day after tomorrow so please post a reply if you know the answer (you'll be doing a good turn to a charity for Xmas:xmassmile . Many thanks

well its a singleband phone, but supports GSM900 so it should work over there

if it said sim unrestricted, try a o2 or voda sim. if that still doesnt work, try

Does anyone know how to do this, i've been told it needs connecting up to a 'box' to unlock it?

it does need connecting up to an unlock box to do it.

i think the n73 needs a testpoint unlock where they have to dismantle the phone and put a pin under the CPU of the phone

Thanks for the reply. Unfortuntely, this just gives CODE ERROR.

I have now tried codes from 4 different sources, all of which have failed.

Does it make a difference that it's a 6111 pink?
