I would say that he should pay the shortfall of what his parents are now having to pay in council tax and losing in benefits etc.
When my daughter moves back home from Uni, I have decided that I will charge her 20% of her income or £200 per month - whichever is lower.
I feel this is fair as I can't see her costing me more than £50 a week in food and bills etc0 -

Plenty of double rooms in London for a similar price..0

I cant agree that sharing utility cost. The difference in heating/electricity cost will be minimal as he is working full time. The mum seems to be home all day so she will be using majority of the utilities. To sting him 30% is excessive.
Part of that usage goes towards MUM vacuuming his room, MUM doing washing and ironing his clothes, and MUM cooking his meals, plus MUM cleaning the common areas that he also uses.Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...

No it wouldn't.
He could get a room with rent and all bills included for 350-400. And I dare say some flat shares would be cheaper than that
He'd have to do his own cleaning, cooking and laundry though. Unless he's planning to pay a cleaner, eat out or live on ready meals and send his clothes to a dry cleaner.Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...

You need to read ALL of what was said ....
The claim was that MUM uses the most gas & electric, so should foot most of the bill. She's not using it all for her own benefit.Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...

I am of the opinion that adult kids should pay their way when living in the family home and not still not in full time education but there's a difference in paying their way and screwing them. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. There will be utilities used during the day that the son won't be responsible for using, if the heating is on while he's out or lights are on, if she cooks meals for herself and the dad while the son isn't there, lunch for example. If the TV is on during the day for example.
Yes there will be utilities used for his benefit but there will be others used that don't benefit him in any way and a 30 per cent share is excessive I think.0
