bob my current budget for groceries is £2160 which works out at £180 pm which is what I brought it down to last year. I would be happy with £150 pm but even happier if I could achieve the £1pdpp mark :) oh might leave me though...

Am now in negotiations with oh over household contributions. currently he pays 3/4s of household costs and me 1/4 but even after he has paid that he has more left than I get paid a month. He just got a payrise so I've suggested I pay £50 less and he £50 more. He's not keen at the moment. It's a work in progress!

That is brilliant Determined the effort you go to in keeping your spends down is really impressive.

Hope you can work it out with DH.

I always get the impression where groceries are concerned bob your efforts are far superior. You never say what your monthly gc spends are but I suspect they are very low!

Ha ha why am I now thinking of that scene in Father Ted where Mrs Doyle and her friend go out to tea and each one insists on paying with more and more outlandish 'Ya wills' :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I have done months of the GC challenge and tracked to the penny. I seem to remember at last call it was coming in at £280 for the four of us. DS is eating a lot more these days. Which does make it hard to keep to that level. But, because I am self employed and my income varies wildly, the food budget is the first thing to take a hit when we are strapped.

Why I am always so impressed with you is you seem to have food in for ages and have a plan for it all. That's very disciplined.

Yes I am good at YSing and am not frivolous but I think you'd win on determination to source the lowest cost but delicious meal. Take your prize and I will pay for the tea :rotfl:

ha ha - go'awn, go'awn, go'awn, go'awn :rotfl: (actually I've never watched father ted as I just don't get it!)

I'm surprised I must say! Yep in some areas I can be very determined - hence my name! It's a curse as well as a blessing, as my oh will testify :rotfl:

FatvonD how did you get on with your tax return? I broke the back of it yesterday and am glad I didn't leave it anymore as I have a couple of things I need to find out in order to submit - I can't find my p60 for one of my positions which is a massive ballache as this was the company I raised a grievance about the manager bullying me and I didn't leave under good circumstances so it's gonna be awks calling... I also need to call both of my banks and find out what interest I received and how much tax I paid. But on initial inspection and filling in the tax checker on hrmc it looks like I've paid too much tax and am due a reasonable rebate :) trying not to get my hopes up until I can get a chance to check these...

    today:

    * hang up load of washing
    * roast pork for dinner, with ys veg bought on Friday :)
    * go for a run - I want to go as soon as it gets light but oh got up yesterday with madam and let me have a lie in so I owe him!
    * might go for a walk and a pint this afternoon - if we don't see if I can get out for an hour to the allotment
    * take madam to the park
    * get bags and lunches ready for tomorrow
    * use a pineapple in someway, somehow and chop & freeze anything left!
    * photo and list some things on fleabay
    * updated spending diary & FL ss. While I was at it I reconciled my cc statement. Now going to quickly look at my budget for the coming month :) geeking out on a Sunday morning :o:p

ok that's all I can think of! Hope everyone has a great day x

Birds are singing - felt the urge to put the trainers on and go out and run but I have dodgy knees and I am supposed to limit the amount of running I do and because I was running on Thursday night its probably not a good idea. I will be sensible and use the spinning bike instead. How I wish I was still 20 sometimes!

    So todays plan.
Coffee and doodle about on internet, update spreadsheets
20 minutes on spinning bike plus 10 minutes weights
    Shower and dressed - breakfast
Put mountain of clean washing away that was over the airers last night
Pork in slow cooker - make flask and snacks
Off to take DS2 to football (then to buy a new toilet - more details in a minute)
Home to eat roast dinner then get ready for Monday and chill in front of the telly.

Sounds OK. No reason to spend except for the toilet. Our house is old and when we moved in 13 years ago it needed a lot of work but it was cosmetic stuff rather than ripping the place apart type work. We have never really been able to afford to pay professionals, DH is very handy but not very keen, I am hopeless at anything practical and because of a lack of time and money a lot of things just got left.

We have slowly redone most of the rooms including putting in a new kitchen and bathroom and DH is now doing the utility and ds loo. But nothing in our house has ever been finished and a lot of things still need doing. We desperately need new doors upstairs which are not expensive but they will be a pain to fit because the door frames are old and wonky. I long for a house that is "done".

Anyway DH has saved up enough to buy a new toilet to replace the old one with the strange plastic cistern that was in our DS loo when we moved in. He is going to have a go at fitting it himself.

Long ramble from me, catch you all later, have a good Sunday x

:rotfl: :rotfl: at Bob and DNMs being like Mrs Doyle and her friend :rotfl: LOVE Father Ted, can pretty much recite any episode off by heart :o Think it came out just when I was at an impressionable age and me and my friends loved it :D Very impressed with both of you and your grocery efforts! :j

Good luck to those of you doing tax returns! Must remind Mr Cheery about his...

YL, I have NO desire to be 20 again  Life is much better now :D But perhaps my 20 year old body in current life?? Don't think I appreciated my knees or various other bits of me enough back then! :rotfl:

Not sure what today will bring for various reasons but making a plan anyway :D

    * make lunch at home - probably just homemade bread and jam :D Love bread and jam (didn't make the jam though sadly)
    * make pasta bake for tea?
    * bag up vat of soup for freezer lunches
    * possibly make more bread for freezer lunches as may eat it all today :o :rotfl:
    * cycle to where I need to go later instead of going in the car
    * turn heating off while I'm doing DIY (will be warm enough in overalls going up and down ladders)
    * sort out kitchen cupboards - had to throw away a 5 year old jar of soup mix yesterday as it had WEEVILS in it  Need to check they're not in anything else (and that cupboard could do with a good sort out anyway :o )
    * finish plastering spare room
    * paint kitchen ceiling (been trying to get round to this for days but Mr Cheery will be out this afternoon so I'll have a clear run)

    That's it I think!

Good luck with your toilet YL. Lots of things got left here too but we want to move which is why we're finally getting round to doing it all at once. Won't be leaving stuff in my next house! especially since I've discovered I actually quite like doing some of it :D :rotfl: Sympathies with the doors - I took the bathroom door off before Christmas (it's never fit, and is going on to a different room) - tried to replace but obviously doorframe is wonky. Had friends coming round so we pinned up a grass mat and a hook... which has been there ever since :o :rotfl: :rotfl:

Have a good day all :)

    Morning all!

Managed another 2 squares for my commission last night. Felt a bit tired and sulky all evening but that was all explained this morning *ahem* (apologies to our male readers TMI :D)

I have posted a pic of the squares on Facebook and put it out there that I am happy to take commissions on. One person has already enquired. It will be a big job, but hopefully they are willing to pay a sensible amount. Do you guys think that £150 (inc materials) for a complicated graphghan seems reasonable?

I also had a message from an ebay buyer asking if I would reduce the price on an item. It's five new balls of acrylic yarn. They are surplus to requirements and I won't use the brand again. I'm charging £1.50 per ball (£7.50 in total) and they have asked me to reduce to £5.00. I felt like a horrible g!t for doing it but have refused. At that price, by the time I package, spend my lunch hour in the post office etc, and all the fees are taken off, it's just not worth it. I never realised that I was such a people pleaser!

    Today's mission:
    • B/L/D from stores. Still continuing the good work. Just need to pick up pasta on the way home to go with the bolognase. Impressed with my use it up lunch. I have bulgar wheat, stir fried brussel sprouts, onion, bacon and feta. mmmmmm. - lunch totally delicious :)
    • Run at lunchtime if not raining - done. 8k, my longest run ever. Boom!
    • Charge phone in work - done
    • Keep an eye on ebay sales. Try to list another item tonight (needs OH's input)
    • Crochet for commission.
    • Do some research on new commission
    • Update budget sheet with OH
    • Apply Amazon voucher to account
Will add more if I think of it

    Have a good one all
