I finished off the fish fingers (3) and had some oven chips with them for tea. That's a bit more out of the freezer ... although, those were useful items. It's the veg mountain I need to cut down on.

Some things, once run out, have to be replaced.
Some things, once run out, just free up space as they're not replaced.

Fish fingers are a keeper :)
Absolutely, a false economy to have it running half empty and not having the things you use stashed. I have list of things that definitely get replaced when I use them up - some mundane like chicken thighs and some a bit more random like root ginger, grated mozzarrella cheese and a wedge of parmesan. I just grate the parmesan and ginger straight from from frozen and I don't need to worry about it going off before I use it up.:)

At midnight I randomly decided to make scrambled eggs on toast.

    Wasn't hungry; don't normally midnight feast ... but tonight I did :)

Let's just say I am ahead of schedule and that's the morning's breakfast :)

With Pukka I used to like to:
    - run a knife around the underside of the lid and remove the lid.
    - cut the lid in half and eat both halves.
    - use the chips to dip into the filling and eat all the filling off the chips.
    - when all the filling/sauce have entirely gone, cut the pastry case into 3 pieces and scoff on their own :)

I think we all have funny little rituals about certain foods.

Odd chippy dinner growing up we used to have puddings - I used to love tipping it out of it's foil tray, cutting the top/bottom off and mixing in as many of the beans as I could before using it to dip the chippings.

Not had any since I've not seen that type of 'pie' again - I tried the little goblin puddings once. Not impressed.
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

I'm not a fan of dipping chips in anything other than ketchup or mayonnaise...I like them still a bit crispy rather than soggy. I also really dislike gravy so putting gravy on chips is doubly wrong imho :p

Very difficult day yesterday after some bad news in the morning followed by problems at work so my dinner was a very uninspiring but large plate of tagliatelle and peas in butter a splash of olive oil and black pepper.

PN when I was young I used to have a bowl of cereal before I went to bed so I didn't have to get up as early for school because I'd already had my breakfast

Probably why I still don't eat breakfast now!

Caronc your fruit basket sounds fab! :o Re freezing pineapples - I buy them when they're reduced on the market, get Mr LW to cut them up, and freeze them, as I use them a lot - I put them on top of pizza and add them to HM sweet'n'sour sauce. Also, they're good for getting rid of mouth ulcers, I've found. :o
Gadgets are only good if they work as you expect and if you need them enough times to donate valuable money/space to their existence.
You're right about that; I have a fair few gadgets, but they're all things I use. Anything to keep making food myself, as the arthritis in my hands gets gradually worse. ;)

I wouldn't have thought goblins would taste very good, whether in a pudding or not! :rotfl:

I'm in a Repeat Cycle. Late breakfast/early lunch today was toast, beans, scrambled eggs, splash of brown, black coffee.

    :)
  • But you did use balsamic vinegar for the first time PN:rotfl:.

Must make more use of my assorted ones. No point in sticking to same old same old imo.

Re gadgets. I use my dehydrator noticeably often now I've got a proper garden at last. So a lot of surplus fruit was dehydrated last year and I'm working on getting more produce out of that garden from here on in. It's not finished yet - that will take a LOT more money before it is:(. But noticeable progress has been made so far - and I am now "up and running" for growing rather more this year I think. So - should be more dehydrating going on.

A Vitamix is a VERY powerful blender - ahem with price to match and it does make one heck of a racket in use (because of having such a strong motor). I've burnt out cheaper ones before now and it does come in handy to have one that should be more reliable and I know I can just chuck some grains in or something and make my own flour. I now make my own chickpea flour and rice flour:).

I did have a breadmaker - and never used it:(.

Right now - for the next week or so I think I shall be eating vegetables until they come out of my ears. I got nervous about maybe not having enough. Errrm....I do now have rather a lot....:rotfl:

You've been doing well with your pie bargains :D hope the Lidl one is as tasty as a Pukka one :)

Still on rinse & repeat, this time it's YS Asda mince beef & onion plus usual veggies

Caronc The best one so far has been the Lidl one, TBH not expecting much from the Asda one but it is certainly an easy dinner, pie in oven and I do the vegies all in one basket in steamer on gas hob

Mucky pup alert, not washed the steamer basket in 3 days, just rinsed out under the tap, still here

I went out and went into Morries and Mr T and every shop in an entire High Street of a local village ... looking for "something nice to eat". I am now sitting here at home, with nothing nice to eat.

Picked up nothing in Morries - they didn't even have the one thing I was looking for (own brand veggie 'chicken nuggets') which I've had before. In fact their freezers were half empty.

Nothing interesting in their bakery section ... not a lot available at all.

Came out of Mr T with two packs of YS sausagemeat - 80p each instead of £1.50, which I've cut in half, re-wrapped and shoved in the freezer. In the shop I had grand ideas of a sausagemeat pie, mash, veggies - by the time I got to the car I didn't fancy that any more.

I also got two dented tins of quartered pears, 38p instead of 75p. And a 4-pack of their own brand beans (lower sugar/salt variety).

So total spend was well under £4 and I was "out shopping" for more than two hours.

I am now wondering whether to go out to A1d1 or L1d1 ... and what to get.

I don't fancy anything that springs to mind.... I'll probably end up grabbing a frozen meal for one.

I do find chilled ready meals (sub £2) very, very, disappointing these days. They were fine a few years back, Mr T even did a LOVELY Chicken Korma for 95p, but they stopped it....

LOL judging by the empty shelves and loaded trollys in Aldi today theres a lot of nervous people about. I only bought a swede and carrots.

The same in Asda, just one tiny lonely little Iceberg left.
