I was once on some medication which prohibited me from eating grapefruit, a boon and not a big loss at all, luckily booze was fine with those tablets :beer:Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Found a yellow stickered small Pukka pie on Asda mooching today, so that plus fresh cabbage, brocolli & carrots is dinner sorted for tonight
The HM Ciabata in the BM failed, handy for a door stop, or killing ducksEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Karcher was the MaccyDs at Woolwich by any chance as thats where the first one was opened
Re the grapefruit I have a drawerful of useless gadgets that I was persueded to buy at 'Tuppaware /kitchen' parties back in the 1970sstill have my grapefruit knife thaugh why I keep it I don't know as tinned grapfruit in juice from Sainsbobs is much nicer. When my late OH was working in the Sudan in the 1980s he used to pick grapefruits and eat them like oranges from the bushes near his compound, with the midday temps at 45c plus it was very refreshing and he loved them.
I remember going abroad for the first time to Switzerland in 1960 and when I came home I told my late Mum what exciting things I had seen .In Belgium I told her of when getting a cup of tea I was given a glass of hot water with a bag with a bit of string on it which you dipped into the hot water to 'cook' the tea.My Mum scoffed and said 'It'll never catch on over here lassie, people like a proper cup in a tea pot with tea leaves ':):):)
The othere thing I remember was telling her about how in Germany and Switzerland they didn't have sheets, blankets and bedspreads like in England but every bed had an enormous pillow on it and you slept under this bed shaped pillow and in the morning folk would shake the pillow out of the window to air it .Duvets were unheard of in the UK then .Mum also scoffed at that and said 'I can't understand why anyone would want to sleep under a pillow it can't keep you very warm '
How times have changed over the past 60 years, I too remember the cherry in the middle of a halved grapefruit, and prawn cocktails and steak diane with black forest gateau to follow being the ultimate in food fashion. Washed down with a Mateus Rose, Blue Nun or Liebfraumilch which then was probably about the only supermarket wine around. The fashions of the 1970s with the artic roll that was always frozen and the sponge tasted of cotton wool. In those days Bejams was the place to buy the frozen stuff , but in 1963 when I had my first fridge the tiny freezer slot at the top only held at most a packet of fish fingers and some birds eye frozen peas.No one ever thought to freeze anything it was usually bought ready frozen:):)

*Stands up, shyly* My name is LameWolf, and I own TWO grapefruit knives.
There, I've admitted it.In mitigation, they belonged to Mr LW's grandmother, and are amongst a plethora of stuff of hers we have in our kitchen.
Caronc I hope you're feeling a bit better today, sweetie - I know how rotten it is when your long-term health condition smacks you round the head with a metaphorical wet kipper. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Monnagran - that's hysterical I've had some cooking disasters where the I've misinterpreted the instructions but that beats them all. :rotfl:
Meg72 - love the pickle jars I remember my great aunt having one which must have been from that range for chutney
Nelski - thankfully I've managed to inadvertently defrost bait but it's been close at times. :eek:Thanks for the good wishes. Have you worked out what your freezer surprise is it?
PN and Farway - nowt wrong with a teaspoon
Farway - Pukka pies are my favourite SM bought pies lucky you finding a YS one. Shame about your ciabatta so annoying when things fail:(
JackieO - I'd still be quite happy if I was served prawn cocktail, steak diane and black forest gateau and at push could manage a glass of mateus rose
LW - two grapefruit knives now that is poshThanks for the good wishes I should be used it by now unfortunately got "smacked" again this afternoon but not as badly as yesterday
I really enjoyed my bagel earlier and was posh and chopped a gherkin to go on itThe pork chop is defrosted so definitely having that later but have a notion for veggie stir fry with it so will see what I feel like later. Still have lots of soup left so will freeze it so it won't be wasted and I'm looking forward to having enough freezer space to flat freeze it rather than cramming it in (I really do need to get out more......)
The replacement for my faulty replacement vacuum-packer (long story.....)has arrived so I'm keeping my fingers crossed it's fine. I'm finding it's one of these gadgets that really works for me on my own as it prolongs the fridge life of things like cold meat and cheese and stops freezer burn so I can still buy bigger packs of these and fish/meat and portion them up. I didn't realise I used it so much until my original died (just within warranty) and I couldn't use it.0 -
For tea I knocked up some basmati rice, with peas ... and used up the last few chicken dippers from the freezer (been there since July last year) and some instant curry sauce from instant granules.

Not been around for a couple of days, and by goodness, will have to backtrack a bit.
