I suppose recent posts bring up the subject of food as fuel, "back in the day" when most people lived in houses without central heating diet was more hearty- soups. stews, porridge, suet puddings, custard and hot pudding etc.in colder months and cetainly in the house I grew up in keeping warm was a difficult (wore more clothes to bed than I did during the day:() therfore essential I think, even if a challenge for the solo diner, to eat as well as they can. It needn't be expensive food just comforting and hot. Should I go and get my hard hat......

Fair enough apologies ...there have been quite a few people on here over the years who just want to push the limits lower and lower and I always worry there may be someone vunerable reading it and think well if they can do 12 I can do 10
Blow that for a game of soldiers; one thing I will not compromise on is the heating; mainly because my "internal thermostat" is busted. Ours is set at 21, and I've been huddled up under a thick blanket, with my thick clothes on, two microwave wheaty bags, and still shivering to the extent of being in pain. :(
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

I'm really immobile at the moment so feeling the cold desperately (apart from the hot flushes in the early hours- why can't they come when I'm freezing). Wheat bags and hot water bottles are such a godsend and I have my heating on though I do try to be sensible with it but it's an old house and although well-insulated still hard to heat

    Eaten it all now :)
That was really nice. Not had chips/beans for awhile as I've been mostly focussing on eating the leftover Xmas veggies, then the frozen veggies, etc.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I'm a big fan of Denby - they did some great lidded soup bowls in the 70s and 80s and you can still buy used ones on ebay.

I've got some very dodgy looking 70s ones which I use for soups and small crumbles.... they are bomb proof. 40+ years old and they're still going strong.

Here's an ebay search for 'Denby soup bowls'.
