Cooking for one

I can't face another night of my spicy pasta sauce either!
Think it'll be egg, chips and beans for me! Though only got sandwich thins in and no bread.
I've never considered a slow cooker but I do have...
A 4 slice toaster just for me
Bread maker
Free standing whisk
Smoothie maker
Food processor
Mini cupcake machine
Big cupcake machine
Brownie machine
Microwave
Standard oven
.... I think i went a little over board with the kitchen electrics when it's just me and always has been (apart from the 4 cats of course...)0 -
I think you have done very well with your takeaway, lol it wouldn't have lasted me three days, so if you don't want to freeze it, bin it, lifes too short to stress about a bit of sauce and certainly too short to force yourself to eat what you don't want.
Well said that woman :T:T
Sometimes its OK to chuck stuff away. How much would that takeaway work out for 3 portions? Remember it was meant to be a treat not a trauma by the 3rd day
Now I need to listen to myself too :cool:0 -
On the slow cooker theme thanks for putting me right about cost of use. Clearly they are very economical and I am sure suit many, but I still wouldn't be tempted.
Everything I cook that could possibly go in a SC (veg chilli, veg curry, pasta sauces) are relatively quick to cook on the hob, and I like being able to fry my spices, onion, garlic first before completing whatever variety of sauce/meal I'm making. So, I can understand why people use them but for me I see no benefits...Each to their own..Vive la difference
Ok a common 'Cooking For One' issue next .
Now don't get me wrong..I love curry and treating myself to a take away at the weekend was great and a very rare treat...but...:o:rotfl:
I am now on to night 3 of madras..and I just don't 'fancy'/want it again! Last night I was very O/S and added chickpeas, spinach and mushrooms to the LO madras sauce (it made a lot). However, I wasn't very hungry and only ate half ...so I have LO again *sighs*
I don't want a third night of Madras :rotfl::rotfl:
ETA but Pizza, now that IS something I could eat tonight....it won't take up that much room and you'll enjoy it much more at a future point when you've a notion for a curry. That way you can have something you do want - go on you know it makes sense.......

My 1 bed flat has a family sized kitchen! 9 unit sized places for me to dump kit on top and cook and more cupboards than my mums 3 bed council house had.... 1 day I may run out of space but only in the freezer0

It's one of the annoyances.... living a life that is dominated by leftovers and trying to work out how to use that up, that then generates something NEW that's leftovers.... sometimes, unless you eat oddly just to finish the cycle, life's a never-ending merry-go-round of opening something new to finish off leftovers ... that generates a new set of leftovers.
Sometimes I'll deliberately pig myself, just to finish something. Sometimes I'll just bite the bullet and only eat what's there. If you're lucky your leftovers will go with oven chips... which are great as they're frozen so don't create new leftovers.
In the main, I keep my food choices and repertoire narrow in order to try to minimise that constant Daisy-Chain Food ... the dreaded DCF that can go on for weeks.0 -

You are absolutely right meg

It'd break my heart and I'd remember that for months to come and beat myself up about waste.
I have a zero waste policy. If I buy it, I HAVE to eat it - and eat it all. If I can't guarantee that will happen, then I can't have it in the first place.
For me an indian is one veg biryani. That's just two meals. I deliberately never have the other goodies I'd like, of a bhaji, naan, bombay spuds ... because that's food overload.

Glad it's not just me! These others must have money to burn.0 -
It's only the cupcake/Brownie machines I don't really use!0
