  • youre such a big amazon shopper that you dobt know about fulfilled by amazon.. are you aware that amazon handles the shipping and dispatch of third party suppliers? the third party suppliers send their stock in bulk to amazon.

I have shopped with Amazon long enough to be aware that Amazon handles SOME shipping and dispatch...but not ALL.

Where an item I have ordered has been 'fulfilled' by Amazon then I have never had an issues with slow delivery.

Some items are marked as coming direct from the seller - and this CAN be slower than Amazon, but it is always clearly stated on ordering, so I m always aware that the delivery will be within 7 days or whatever the estimate is.

Well it's very very clear on the website which items are fulfilled by amazon and which aren't.

I find the self-fulfilled items are much quicker than amazon fulfilled items. Obviously if you're ordering from a china based seller who ships from china then it will take a long !!!! time.

Partly because you can give a negative review to an third party seller but you can't give a negative review to amazon.

    LOL.

I had cancelled my previous order (that I paid £4 for standard delivery) because 1 item was time critical for a business presentation.

It would not have arrived on time due to slow despatch so I cancelled the entire order. I had then placed a new order for the items minus the item that was too late and therefore now unwanted, I placed the free delivery order on 16th.

They have now dispatched it today 19th with next day delivery it seems as they are promising tomorrow delivery.

So again, they just withheld the order for whatever reasn. Out of principle I will never ever join prime. I want to freely buy from the retailer that is offering the best price and dont want to feel locked into amazon because I have commited to £70 a year membership to them.

I will just use free delivery and make it cost them.
  • I won't use Prime, and I have noticed that Amazon was slower in January than previous months, but frankly I find it bizarre to be so angry that a retailer is doing exactly what it's promising. It's not withholding anything, and the delivery time estimates haven't changed. If I had to hazard a guess, they've let their seasonal temp staff go and their permanent staff are taking the holidays they were denied over the run up to Christmas, so they're operating at minimum numbers, where minimum is defined as enough staff to meet their promised delivery times.

Maybe they shouldn't have let go of the temp staff then.

Of course, because you're trying to prove your point that amazon are useless unless you're a prime member.

I ordered something from a 3rd party seller on Sunday, based in the UK. it was shipped yesterday and will arrive by Saturday. How dare they sit on it for 72 hours before shipping!

Generally though, I order stuff from Amazon or 3rd party resellers and items always arrive within the timeframe specified at time of ordering.

According to a an article from *6* years ago, Amazon UK shipped over 1.6 million items in a 24 hour period at their busiest time. Whereas I would guess your average 3rd party seller may get anything from zero up to a few hundred items a day. Lot easier to ship something when you've only got 20 parcels to take to the post office. It's already been pointed out to you that for non prime deliveries they probably bunch up stuff to ship in bulk to the various carriers save on costs.

And I'm sure Amazon couldn't care less if you choose free deliveries in future 'to make it cost them'. If it wasn't profitable to offer a free service, they wouldn't offer it.

The fact remains that you wanted something for a time critical business presentation, took the gamble that the item might arrive in time even though the order delivery time took you past the date you needed it because you didn't want to pay for express delivery for whatever reason.

Will it arrive by the given delivery date? Yes, so you have no complaint again.

Delivery costs them pennies, your choice is hardly going to make a dent in their profits. The funniest thing is that you moan about them so much but continue to shop with them!

it isn't profitable though. For the first 3-4 years they made no profit. The free delivery thing (for any amount) cost them a lot and their shareholders were whinging about it for a long time.

Amazon disrupted the ecommerce market massively with their free deliveries because everyone else at the time was charging £5.99 per order for delivery or something.

They offered free delivery as a loss leader in order to take the online retail space and drive their competitors under ground.

Tech companies do this all the time, they get billions of investment from various parties and for 3-4 years go on an aggressive market share acquisition campaign at zero profit (mostly loss making). Then once theyve penetrated the market then they fleece the customers.

Such as the £20 minimum for free delivery and amazon prime.
