  • Hi there

We're currently seeking legal advice and have been told we have a case against Littlewoods in the big £25 clawback. I was hoping that perhaps some of your members might be able to help too if they've been affected.

My name is Leigh and I'm trying to run the administrative side of the campaign, we have a guy called Tim who's running the show, speaking to the media and such, Sean, who's our legal-eagle, and Les who's acting as webmaster. We started our campaign only last week but there are 50 members in our group already.

We're trying to establish whether credit accounts were illegally set up by Littlewoods, as many of the people who used the £25 voucher paid with their credit cards, but were then later invoiced for the £25.

We've created a form for those affected top complete so we can establish a "story" from everyone.

I'd ask your members to PLEASE do not make libellous comments! (Its a sure way to get the forum closed) However - adding that its "YOUR OPINION" that they are breaking their own T&Cs or various acts and state why, is fair enough to do - and whilst they might excert pressure, I dont think they would get very far with that type of censureship.

    Its located at http://geteven.biz/templates/email.html

We also are contactable at this email address, and available at geteven.biz

I really hope one of your team can offer us some assistance, the more of us there are, the better chance we all have!

    Thanks for your time!!

EDIT: Looks like Tim beat me to it!! See not_the_messiah posts above :) either set of links work though guys- thanks for your help!!
  • You will have to watch your credit rating. If you are slow or late at paying, Littlewoods will pass an adverse credit report to credit agencies - which could cause all sorts of subsequent problems for people.

It happened to me, I bought goods, paid in full in advance by cheque, which they cashed.

Three months later I was being chased for non-payment. It took a lot to prove that I had paid, involving bank statements, and they finally agreed that I had paid before the goods were despatched.

However - my credit rating was adversely impacted.

I would not use them again if you paid me (even in coupons!)

If you have been affected by this and don't want to pay, then you need to ring them/write to them and inform them that you are disputing the amount. Once you have done this, they cannot legally add anymore penalties to your account OR affect your credit rating.

    Cheers

Crumbs! Erm, I would give your local CAB or Consumer Direct a ring and tell them what you have done and what LW have done. Or have you done this already? I would also give LW a ring to enquire as to why the illegal admin charge has been added to your account when you have clearly informed them of the dispute. Have you received a reply in response to your dispute letter?

This is about the limit of my legal knowledge (if you can call it that!), but answer the above and we can take it from there :)

    Cheers

    Tim

P.S. I see you have joined www.geteven.biz

Thinking about it though, it might be best if you can repost what you wrote above on geteven. It would help the transition of moving from MSE/HUKD to there easier if all queries/comments relating to this were posted on there. Just a thought :)

I've never had a problem with Littlewoods and I've been with them about 20 years. Even when I've queried something its been sorted out on the phone but things might have changed now most of the catalogues have merged into one.

I would say though that I would be wary of taking action against Littlewoods unless you can afford to lose as sometimes it is better to just pay up and get it over with especially if you used vouchers you really shouldnt have and have been found out.

Some of you are already saying its affecting your credit rating and more charges are being added so what is the point in fighting battle you have a good chance of not winning.

Some you win some you dont.........

littlewoods are complete numpties! having disputed the £25 charge several times, spoken to several very rude customer service agents, sent a letter of complaint and received the standard response from kim jones, finally deciding to pay and then finding myself unable to make an online payment as their website wouldnt allow me i rang again spoke to another agent who was not quite so rude. i explained the story yet again, said i wouldnt have purchased the item at full price as it certainly wasnt worth the £10 i paid for it nevermind £35 and that i would have returned it given the chance. she offered to send out some returns labels and a courier to collect. the courier turned up the following day (2 weeks early!), the returns labels turned up today (3 weeks later) and my online account (bearing in mind i didnt realise i had a credit account as i paid by credit card) has been credited with £35 as has my credit card! so i guess i now really do owe them £25??! p*** up and brewery come to mind!
to add insult to injury i just received their christmas catalogue and 2 emails offering me money off - NO CHANCE!!!

    Will do, thanks Tim
  • As Tim & I mentioned earlier, all of you who are disputing the £25 charge back can fill in the form here

    http://geteven.biz/templates/email.html

hilary1, littlewoods acted illegally by setting up accounts for people who had previously paid by credit or debit card. They did not have the customers permission to do this, nor did they have a signed credit agreement.

We could just pay the money back and forget about this, but that then sets a precedent for other companies to chargeback for past discounts.
  • geez, sorry guys but it sounds not worth the trouble.
