Through her ad in a local free "Ads" paper where we used to live. Simple, direct message "Lady, xx (age) wishes to meet gentleman."
'This lass' I thought, 'is not messing about.' Little did I know she was divorced for 2 years with a son and daughter, and skint, as was I: each of our previous OH's had left us that way.
I wrote and she phoned me: apparently her dd had pressured her into answering. I drove to a meeting place in a pub car park, I got out, did a twirl and curtsy. She collapsed into laughter and I have been amusing her ever since, sometimes unintentionally. We drove to a lovely country pub in an old wood and started talking. We are still talking after almost 30 years, so I guess you can say we made it. The ds and dd have become my kids too and all 4 of their smashing kids each call me granddad.
It's life: you never know what's happening next for us. Dd is still the forceful one who thinks of things for the family to do and ds is the most laid back, but totally reliable son I could wish for. And my wife is the best friend and soulmate who saved me from loneliness and taught me that not all women were takers, like my previous two relationships turned out. Quite simply, I owe her my life. She is bonkers of course, otherwise what can she possibly have seen in me?I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

At college aged 16. I fancied him but didn't think it was reciprocated, but we became friends. Drifted apart when we went to uni, had other relationships etc, and he deleted my phone number! But we randomly became bebo friends and stated speaking again via MSN, and about a year later we became an item. 10 years on we're expecting our first baby0

My best friend introduced me to him when I dragged her to a rock night at a local pub. Not long after I'd given up on meeting someone offline.
Though it's a bit strange that we hadn't spoken before seeing as he's close enough to my best friend that she was almost asked to be best man and chief bridesmaid for our wedding.No. 30 on Save 12k in 2018 £20,218.75/£20,000

Some great stories there! Those of you who met online, what hooked you about their opening message?0

I met my now husband in a nightclub. I was only 17 so never expected to meet the man I would go on to marry (especially not in a club!!). I took his number although wasn't going to text him but then my friend made me!! I'm so glad she did as we have been together 16 years now, happily married and had our first baby almost four months ago.0

I can't remember exactly what he wrote now (he contacted me) but he'd actually read my profile and asked me a couple of questions related to it. I then read his profile and liked the way he'd written it (and liked the look of him in his photos).

On the dating site. He commented on me mentioning "serendipity" in my profile. He did not fit my requirements but met him because I was lonely and he was interesting. It happened 3 years ago.The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.0 -
I love reading these!
My friend was in a long term relationship with his brother, she invited him out to our annual Christmas/birthday meet up at the local pubs as he'd broken up with his girlfriend a couple of months before and she didn't want him sat in moping. He spent the evening chatting to me a lot, then when my friends disappeared he walked me home. I thought it was quite gentlemanly of him! He asked me if I would like to see him again, the rest is history and that was 17 years ago!
I had actually said hi to him at the local fair 4 years before when me and my friends bumped in to him and his girlfriend and our mutual friend introduced us all. I was 14 then, he was 20 with his girlfriend there. Wasn't even on my register to be someone to fancy, didn't even cross my mind. Weird how only 4 years later it was so different!0 -
Dungeons & Dragons.
I'd just joined Mensa and found the D&D group through the Mensa magazine; the meetings took place in the Milton Keynes LocSec's house (Local Secretary). I lived near Bicester at the time, so it was within reasonable driving distance, and I love sword'n'sorcery stuff, so I joined.
He was already a member of the group when I attended my first meeting on 2nd January 2002; he was playing a rather inept wizard named Harris Tweed (my character was an Elven fighter, Lyssa Blackthorn); Harris set off a fireball aimed at taking down a troll, and Lyssa got caught in the blast and nearly killed.
To this day I don't let him forget about fireballing me! I got my own back - I married him! :rotfl:If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0
