Thanks both, it was nice to get away and (mostly) just chill out.

Yesterday we had a busy day as it was sunny and dry which is a rare combination in the west of Scotland. 😂 I got 2 washings done, hung out and dried and re-potted my cucumber, tomato & jalapeño seedlings again. DH cut the grass & re-oiled the garden furniture after taking the protective cover off it. I also managed a bit of weeding but have a lot still to do and all the pots to sort out in the garden.

I need to look at my raspberry canes as they haven't done well for the last few years and also need to remove my hydrangea from the front garden as I'm pretty sure it's dead. Will need to have a think about what to replace it with as it needs to be hardy and not need to much attention. It gets very windy as we live at the top of a hill so the plants take a battering. I have planted some small heathers in the same bed but need something bigger as well.

The kids enjoyed running about in the garden, playing on their scooters and climbing frame. DH still needs to treat the climbing frame as it's wooden and re-attach the slide.

I also went for a run yesterday morning and struggled because it was sunny and the temperature was 10 degrees. 😂 Practically tropical for my Irish/Scottish blood. I don't think I'm going to cope well running if we have a warm summer. 😱 To be fair though we usually only have 2 nice weeks in May then the rain is just a bit warmer until autumn. 🤷‍♀️ I think I'm going to have to brave wearing shorts in public though to run in the warmer months. 😱

Today has been a lazy day although I did some core and strength work along with my physio exercises. I'm going to go for my next run on Tuesday morning before my physio appointment so I don't ruin it like last time!! DH managed to sell some tech he's been trying to get rid of for a while so he was happy as well, the guy came and collected it today so his man cave is a bit tidier as well.

Glad you had a good time away on the whole. You sound just like my Scottish work team mates who talk about their summer being one week at the end of May. Whenever I moan about the weather here in the summer if it isn’t great they tell me I need to adopt a Scottish attitude to summer 🤣

😂 SA, some years we don't even get a week of nice weather! I'm always astonished that England has an actual summer where it's warm for weeks on end. 😂 Beanie is right, we live in hope but doesn't stop me moaning about the heat when we do get it, I can't cope and have to hide in the shade!

DH has paid off the last CC so we "only" have the 2 car loans left to pay off. 🎉 The outlaws actually sent us the money they wanted us to pay off the mortgage but we have decided to do what we think is best with it instead. We have paid 5k off the new car loan which is almost a third of it. The rest of the money is being divided into savings for various things like new carpets (the whole of the upstairs including the stairs need done), holiday savings, car maintenance savings and a bit of spending money. We are going to try and hammer the newest loan as it has a higher interest rate.

I'm really pleased that DH has got his act together over the last year with money and has really stuck to our budget. We've been out of the overdraft for over a year now and moving our money into a separate joint bills account then moving set amounts to savings and paying ourselves "pocket money" to do what we want with (amount changes depending on what we have left and anything we know that is coming up i.e. car repairs/events etc).  We've managed to pay off 3 credit cards totalling 9.9k and build up a small amount of savings without feeling too deprived and have even managed 2 short breaks with the kids and a couple by ourselves. I wish we had started doing this years ago, we both feel so much more settled and less anxious as we know where we are with money. We're still not perfect but it's so much better on the finance front than it was. 🍻 If we manage the same amount of overpayments as in the last year maybe we can be one loan down by this time next year. 🤞

That's amazing to have achieved so much and without feeling deprived either.

Hopefully you'll achieve the same next year x

Wow you’re doing so well. Glad DH is finally on board. I can’t believe the difference in weather in such a small island in the grand scheme of things. We live in a very sheltered part of England where it rarely snows or has extremes of weather thankfully.
