DS was much better yesterday, still with a slight temp and a bit grouchy but less coughing and no sickness.
My brother, his gf and my youngest niece came round for a few hours in the afternoon after I finished work.
The kids had a good time playing and we had a nice chat. I had bought some pizzas from Mr Al’s, some crisps and olives and cooked some sausage rolls that were already in the freezer. My brother brought crisps and mini muffins & brownies for the kids.
They also helped us get the old mattress downstairs and out to the side of the house so the council can collect it.
Costing us £35 for that plus spent another £40 on a mattress protector for the new mattress. Saved a small amount of money by reusing the plastic the new mattress arrived in to wrap the old mattress so it doesn’t get soaked while waiting to be collected.
The kids were a bit later to bed and then DD spent over an hour and a half screaming before finally falling asleep. I think she wasn’t feeling very well but she wasn’t making much sense.I gave her some medicine and rubbed Vicks on her chest as she had a runny nose, then spent ages tickling her until she fell asleep. DH had to tag team in a few times as she was so distressed. 😩
It brought back bad memories of when the screaming was an every day occurrence for hours at bedtime.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £11,174, Car loan 2 £5,532, CC 0% BT £780. Debt Free Diary to try & keep spending in check.0 -
Feeling drained today, DH brought me a cup of tea in bed and got DD dressed. DS got himself up and dressed around half 7.We had pancakes for breakfast and the kids gave DH his Father’s Day presents and card.
Still sitting in my pjs and need to have a shower soon but feeling so tired.
Sold a small bundle on v!nted yesterday so got it packaged up but will probably send tomorrow as I need to collect my prescription then anyway.
Need to remind DH (again) to chase up about swimming lessons for DS. We don’t even know if he’s on a waiting list!
This is one thing I’ve left up to DH & he’s procrastinated over it for over a year! Ok so the people didn’t get back to him for months because of covid but he didn’t exactly chase it. I just want to have one thing I don’t need to do/chase/make appointments for. 😖 But of course I am chasing it because I have to keep telling DH to sort it out! Hope you manage to have a relaxing afternoon if you're so tired, difficult if the children aren't very well though 😞
It's hard having to be "chief life admin officer" when you have a young family, it's definitely my job in my household too & causes a few arguments. Don't know what the answer is but I certainly empathize x1 -
Thanks Dancing, it’s just exhausting always being the one who has to remember to make appointments and write on the calendar when the kids have stuff on. Plus organising childcare whenever we need it. I have to sit with my diary, my shifts & DH’s then figure out when we need cover and who can help out.
I do make DH deal with renewing insurances etc though so at least he does that.I had a shower whilst DD napped and hung out a washing whilst DH made lunch. I have also tidied up the front garden a bit by deadheading and cutting back the climbing rose and cutting back a dying hebe. It’s still a work in progress though.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £11,174, Car loan 2 £5,532, CC 0% BT £780. Have had a good few days in terms of washing as the weather has been sunny & windy. Got 3 washings out, dried & put away one day & 2 the following day.DH actually let me have a lie in (of sorts) and got DS up and organised for nursery then took him as well for 2 days in a row. 😱 He is a bit huffy as seems to think he deserves all the praise & a reward for this. 🙄
DH was also p*seed off with his dad as he FaceTimed on Father’s Day and his dad didn’t want to talk to him because his friend was visiting. 🤷🏻♀️ He did talk to DD for 2 mins though. So DH spoke to his mum, who then started moaning that DD’s hair was a mess. 😐 DD refuses to let us do anything with her hair, we’re lucky if we get a clasp in without her kicking off. 😂
Have made a couple of extra payments to the CC with survey money. Will be doing my big BT later in the week to the no fee 0% for 21 months card. Will then overpay the card with shorter length 0% to try and get rid of it before the 0% runs out.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Yep Beanie, they are just so odd. Poor DH is struggling to deal with their behaviour again and has cut contact to one phone call a week. He said his mum did comment that they haven’t been hearing from him as much. He told her the phone works both ways!
I have just opened a cha$e account so am going to try using this for spending rather than my CC. I think this will make me think about my spending more as I’ll need to transfer money from the joint account to use as it’s a debit card and has no overdraft.I will close the spending CC as I was using it for points towards am@zon vouchers and this will be stopping at the end of the year/start of next year. The cha$e account has 1% cashback so worth using.
The big CC BT is the Mr S 0 fee with 0% for 21 months. Was thinking of using it for nectar points but it might just complicate things with my BT. I will have 2 CC’s with 0% balances on them once it goes through.
DH & I have a joint cashback CC we use every month for food/fuel/anything else that’s not a bill. It is paid off in full when we get paid.
We then each have a spending CC for places that don’t take the joint CC (@mex). This hasn’t been working as we just spend without putting a limit on it and then it’s easily an overspend every month with 3 CC bills!
I need to get DH to either change to a debit card or put a cap on his separate CC spends (maybe both!).We both have to work on spending less on the joint CC too. Not easy with prices going up but we can stop/limit silly spending.
I think one of my problems is that I like to stock up on things when they are reduced. They are things we will use but we don’t always have the money to buy lots at once and do I really need 6 packets/tubs etc at once?! I tell myself I’m saving money but I’m spending it. 🤔Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £11,174, Car loan 2 £5,532, CC 0% BT £780. DS had his nursery graduation yesterday, I cried. 😳😂 I’m quite sad that he’s leaving nursery, he loves it there & the staff are all so nice. DD will be starting there at the end of the year though.
The kids did a song & dance on a stage and DS was so funny, he had a face of concentration because he was trying to sing & dance at the same time. He didn’t quite manage it but gave it a good go. 😂
He had to walk back on to the stage alone to collect a certificate & school tie and he did really well.DH was very helpful yesterday, he made dinner & cleaned the kitchen afterwards. He did a washing, hung it out & brought it in again. Didn’t get quite so far as putting it away though 😂 always his stumbling block. It was nice though. 🙂Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £11,174, Car loan 2 £5,532, CC 0% BT £780. Morning Sashy! Catching up after a hectic week, there are so many things that sound similar to our household. I am in charge of the admin and recently I've been delegating. It's not easy, like you say I have to chase things are being done but it's a start. My Mr is helping out a lot but it hasn't always been like this, he still doesn't do laundry though, more training is needed! 😆
I've started a chase account yesterday, did you get yours open already? I was placed in a waiting list, fingers crossed it happens soon as I want to stop using the cashback CC as well. And I also have problems with stocking up, I often need to stop and ask myself 'do I really need this now?' as I'm running out of money and space, there's only so many places you can store giant packs of loo roll 🤣
Your DS graduation show sounds lovely, I bet he was super cute singing and dancing ♥01.12.2020 - CC £16,839 / Loan £18,820 / EF £0
03.07.2023 - CC (0%) £9,859 / Loan £0 / Savings £10,1101
