Prices are really creeping up now, some things you notice more than others if you buy them regularly. It's going to be a challenge to stick within the grocery budget.

Thanks for dropping in guys, glad it’s not just me thinking birthday cakes had gone up in price by quite a bit!

Took the kids swimming yesterday morning, DD screamed her head off when we were putting her float vest and arm bands on then DS screamed his head off when we expected him to get into the pool. 😭🤣

So we had the lovely experience of the whole children’s pool having a stare & wondering what was wrong with him.

To be fair everyone was very friendly and another mum with a boy the same age brought him over to talk to DS and try to encourage him into the pool.

I managed to get DS in the pool within 5 mins with him clinging on for dear life but he was having fun within another 5 mins and didn’t want to leave when it was time to go. 🤭

DD went straight into the pool without a thought and was loving life floating around. 😂

Getting out & changed was another round of fun. The kids were moaning about being cold and wet and wanting their clothes on. Everyone ended up dressed apart from me! DH just blithely carried on sorting himself out. 😐

We got a McDs for lunch as we’d promised DS and were suitably appalled at how expensive it was.

At least it was free for the kids to go swimming as they are both under 5 (just in DS’s case). Think it cost £7 to get us in.

Had a very lazy afternoon apart from DH looking at my car and announcing that it needs to go into the garage as he couldn’t get a bolt off to replace the part we think is broken. 😭 So it will be a pain getting that organised and probably won’t be able to do it next week due to the bank holiday days.

Had the worst sleep ever last night as DS was awake & crying for most of it saying his ear was sore. 🤦🏻‍♀️ So that will be due to going swimming then. 😫

He has a temp and is just snoozing on the couch now with the occasional moan. He still wants to go to the library and to see his gran so had a screaming fit when I said no.

Hoping it won’t be an ear infection and he gets over it quickly as he has another primary 1 induction at school next week. I’m also working early shifts for the next 3 days so really need him to sleep. 😢

Just caught up...I sympathise on the swimming experience. The first time I took  DS3 to lessons, he sat on the steps of the pool and would not budge 😒. When I thought about it, there is so much for young children to take in on a trip to the pool.

Glad you got through the outlaws’ visit.

I used to loathe the whole swimming experience.
    Don't tell.

    Thanks Honeysuckle & Beanie.

Honeysuckle, I wasn’t too surprised at DS’s reaction. He hates change and gets very anxious about new things. Once he is used to the pool we can get him started on swimming lessons.

Beanie 🤣 I’m not that fussed on swimming myself. 😂

DS was a bit better yesterday but still had a temperature. He was eating well though so hopefully another day resting will sort him out.

I can’t swim, we had lessons at school but I was terrified of deep water. An idiot threw me in a river when I was 15, I nearly drowned and since then my fear of deep water is even worse. On the plus side this meant Mr SA always had the ordeal of taking the kids swimming. Thankfully they are both good swimmers. Not everyone takes to it though.

Glad DS is getting better, kids go downhill fast but recover fast too.

SA, I hate deep water and panic when I can’t touch the bottom with my feet! I can swim but it took me a long time to learn & I’m still not a confident swimmer.

No wonder your fear of deep water got worse after being thrown in a river. 😱

My DH is a good swimmer so I’m hoping the kids take after him. They both enjoyed the swimming pool so that’s good.

DS still had his high temp yesterday when I got home from work but ate well again. DH says he is a normal temp this morning so hopefully will be able to go to nursery.

After work yesterday I had to fill up DH’s car (driving it due to mine being dodgy). It cost £78 for a full tank of diesel. 😱

I repotted some courgette & flower seedlings yesterday and planted out my runner beans. I have extra courgette and runner bean seedlings so giving some to my mum, my SIL & maybe nursery if they want them.

I want to get more flower seeds sown & need to get netting up over my one(!) raspberry cane that is looking decent this year. Will need to buy more I think.

I can’t remember if I mentioned it but I cashed out on y0ugov last week. I paid £10 into my Christmas savings then split the remaining £40 between the car loan & the CC.

Poor DS wasn't very well when I picked him up on Monday afternoon, think he needed another day of rest so we ended up keeping him off the following day. I did quickly take him to the library after nursery as he wanted some new books.

Yesterday was a busy day as DS turned 5 and also had his first primary 1 induction where he went into his classroom and met his teacher and the other children who will be in his class. He knows quite a few from nursery as it's attached to the school so that was good. He didn't want to go to the classroom without me so I walked him to the door, he went in quite happily as another boy he knows from nursery was behind us.

There were a few poor wee souls in tears, I'm honestly surprised that DS wasn't one of them! He really enjoyed it and then he had lunch in the school lunch hall (DH & I were with him for that part). He ate really well and was pretty relaxed, so fingers crossed he'll be fine when he starts school. He has another induction morning next week, so will spend another 2 hours in his classroom.

After that we took him to a cafe where he had a muffin and a blue slushy so he was delighted. My mum stayed at our house with DD during all of this which made it much less stressful!

DS was exhausted after lunch and argued his way through building his lego fire engine. 😂 He was being rude to my mum and talking over her when she was trying to help him so I gave him a row and he said "But Gran isn't listening to me!" I also heard him threaten her with "I'm telling mummy on you" 😂

His lego fire station is going to take ages to build so DH is helping him with that in instalments. He wasn't very interested in his yoto player until bedtime and then enjoyed listening to stories in bed. When he woke up this morning he was also listening to it and had swapped the card over for a different one so is working out how to use it very quickly. 👍

My mum bought DS a hoodie which he said was awesome when he tried it on. 😂 DD just wanted to steal the minions helium balloon we had got for DS.

Only got one washing done and hung out yesterday and brushed the couches down.
