Hi jan, Nicnak & Honeysuckle. 👋

Jan, I feel so sorry for your friend's daughter, that is awful. It's hard enough getting to grips with everything after having your first baby and your hormones are all over the place. Her husband really should be telling them to back off at the very least!

I was very over sensitive and massively resented the way my in-laws behaved when they came to visit when my DS was born. I think if they had lived locally to us there would have been a big falling out as they would have been sticking their oar in all the time. I know my DH just blamed me when I said no to things and he had to then tell them no, so I looked like the bad one rather than him even when he agreed with me! They would have blamed me anyway to be honest as they're not my biggest fans and think I "influence" DH into not listening to them. 🤷‍♀️

I can understand that MIL misses the kids and wants to see them, I just don't like how she tries to guilt trip DH and make it all about her. I don't think she even realises she does it. She also keeps saying she'll come and stay to "help" but only wants to come on dates that suit her! So it's no help at all really, is it, she's not coming to help, she's just coming for a visit!!

Nicnak & Honeysuckle, yes I'm happy to pass the baby things on as they're too good to be binned but sometimes charities won't take things like car seats as they can't guarantee they've not been in an accident. It feels far less wasteful to pass them on and I know it will help my nephew and his gf as they don't have a lot of money. Getting things out of the house is also good. 😀

I had quite a lazy day today - I hoovered both upstairs and down, gave the kitchen floor a quick mop and did two washings.

When DD was having her afternoon nap, DS & I were in the back garden and I repotted my calendulas which have flowered and are lovely shades of orange and yellow. DS kept saying "pretty flowers" which is nice but doesn't stop him trying to behead them. 😂

He was also running around shouting "Fun in the garden mummy, fun in the garden!" and looking for the magpies shouting "naughty magpies, they pooed on the window". 😂 I had bird poo on my car windscreen the other day. 😂

Speaking of the magpies I spotted one of them hanging off the netting over the raspberries by its feet so it could steal them easier. Cheeky git.

I repotted 4 chilli plants the other day and moved a few of the courgettes out of the greenhouse as it was getting too crowded and jungle like in there. I found a giant cucumber that I had missed in all the greenery, it looks like a marrow. 😂  Getting a lot of yellow courgettes just now, really need to try the chocolate courgette cake recipe Honeysuckle recommended.

That magpie is hilarious. They've really figured everything out at your house!
    Have a lovely day x

Had a good couple of hours at work yesterday, spoke to a few people I hadn't seen for ages and then went for a wander around town.

I really didn't enjoy having to wear a mask in the shops but as it's mandatory here now I did it. I went into the bank to pay in a cheque and was surprised that quite a few people weren't wearing them. 👀

I also encountered another old person who obviously didn't understand social distancing whilst queuing in a shop. She was so close behind me I could feel her fidgeting! 😱 She was desperate to put her things on the conveyor belt for some reason rather than stand on the very obvious sticker on the floor that tells you to keep your distance. 🤦‍♀️ I felt like turning round and telling her to back off but didn't want to be mean. 😳

I went into the supermarket on the way home as well to get joggers for DS (3 pairs for £12, not too bad) and everyone in there was wearing masks but the social distancing still wasn't great. 🤷‍♀️

Have been looking into hedging for the front garden as want to pre-order bare roots for delivery in Oct/Nov. I think I'm going to go for cotoneaster franchetii with some red dogwood for a bit of contrast. I would quite like some holly but it's expensive and possibly quite damaging if DS fell into it. 😱 Looking online I think it comes to around £150 and will probably be another £20 for canes unless I can get them elsewhere cheaper. 🤔 I think we will need the canes as it's so windy up here but not sure. 🤷‍♀️

Need to start getting to bed earlier as I'm still feeling exhausted and have stopped exercising. The exercise was definitely making me feel better but I'm just rubbish at getting up early - it's the only time I get to myself apart from after the kids bedtime and then I just want to lie on the couch!

I know what you mean about lying on the couch. I could do that so much. I forced myself to go on a walk yesterday and actually really enjoyed it. X

  • Another fan of crashing out on the couch when the kids have gone to bed, I know it would do me good to do something more active but find it really difficult to motivate myself x

Hi Nicnak & Dancing, yep crashing out on the couch is definitely most appealing after running about all day. Once the kids are in bed I have dishes to do and washing to sort (at a minimum) before even sitting down, so no wonder I don't really feel like exercising!

Last night I put the nappy pre-wash on and did the big clean out of the litter trays after getting the kids down. DH was working late shift again so solo bedtime which involves a bit of juggling but is fine with a bit of practice.

I also washed the cat blankets for the first time in several months, they were very very hairy. 😱 I used a sachet thing called vamoosh that apparently dissolves the cat hair, in fact I used 2 sachets. It didn't work completely but the amount of cat hair in the washing machine was a lot less than it normally would be after a cat blanket wash. Still had to do an extra rinse after taking them out though and give it a wipe.

My brother wanted to come and visit with his gf and the two girls yesterday which would have been great and DS would have loved it but they wanted to come between 5-6pm. 👀 I said no because the kids have their dinner at 5 and get ready for bed just before 6 and DS would end up being too hyper seeing his cousins. I think they think we're too strict on bedtimes but the kids get really crabby if they're out of routine. I said to them to come over during the day over the weekend but my brother is working overtime and I haven't heard from his gf.

I've pre-ordered the hedging for delivery in November, I went for mostly cotoneaster franchetii with some red dogwood and it came to £138 for the 70 bare root plants. I was going to order the canes but they were going to charge £10 delivery for them 😱 although the delivery for the plants is free as it's over £100. 🤷‍♀️ So I'll get the canes elsewhere!

I'm going to try and build up some survey money to pay towards the hedging as we won't have enough in the home savings account.

The plan is to prep the area for the bare roots a month or two in advance by digging out the grass and adding compost and bonemeal to the soil. That means when the bare roots are delivered we can plant them straight away.

No doubt the outlaws will have something to say about the hedging. 🙄 I'll probably be told all the reasons why I've picked the wrong type of plants. Fingers crossed the plants don't all die on me. 😂

Good idea to try and build some money. I am trying to do that at the minute as well. It is the best way. x

Cotoneaster is just great as a hedge. The dogwood will give some much welcome colour in winter 😀.
