Have got a washing hung out and the nappy wash on so far this morning. Got up and did 30 mins of yoga and then emailed work about going back to do KIT days in July.

Feeling stressed about work already as on checking DH's roster it turns out that half the month the days I'm working are his rest days but the other half we are both working the same time of shift on the same day. 😩 So on two of my late shifts and two of my early shifts DH is working lates and earlies on the same days.

It's an absolute pain because on an early shift I start at 6am and DH can be starting at 4/5/6am and on a late shift I'm working until half 11 and he can be working up until 1/2am plus he has nightshifts every so often.

I can probably swap one or two of the shifts every month but that's depending on my job share partner being able to do it and still leaves a couple of shifts to cover childcare somehow. The only thing I can think of is asking my mum to stay overnight at our house for the early shift but then she has to get both kids up in the morning and take DS to nursery. For late shifts she could come to our house, give them their dinner and put them to bed, then when I get home from work, she could go home. But that's a lot to ask and she's also still working, so her shifts would be another thing to work out.

I guess we'll just have to give it a try and speak to my mum and see what she thinks about it as well. I feel like it's going to be a logistical nightmare but there's no way we could afford for me not to work, plus I'd probably go mad!

Glad you were able to use the field for some run around time with DS. Sounds like lots of positives with him walking up the hill. It is hard for them to understand. My DS3 suddenly said yesterday that he missed his nursery friends and that he hadn’t been for weeks. He also asked me when the virus would die 🤷‍♀️. Interesting what they do pick up but hard for pre schoolers to articulate how they are feeling.

Do you have a return date for work?

Hi Honeysuckle, yes DS is very emotional atm and just starts crying over small things, I think he is really confused and missing his gran and cousins. He has good days and bad days like us all.

I've told work that I want to start back on my job share at the start of August after doing 5 KIT days in July. I made them aware of this in March, so have given them plenty of notice. I just hope the Covid situation doesn't muck things up, as they are having to do a lot of juggling to maintain social distancing in my office and are having to get people to use KIT days to stay off so there aren't too many people in the office at one time.

My job share partner is currently off sick because she broke her wrist, I'm hoping she'll be back at work not too long after me as it's easier to arrange shift swaps etc with her. She is older and doesn't need to worry about childcare etc so she can usually help me out unless she has something planned. The girl who has been covering my maternity leave however also has two young kids, so if she is covering my job share partner when I go back it will probably be hard/impossible to get swaps.

i'm just trying not to freak out about it all but I know it will be stressful and no doubt it will be my job to sit and go through the rosters every month (mine, DH's and my mum's) and work out who can cover which day or if I need to swap shifts etc.

With DS starting nursery as well that adds another difficulty in one way as my mum doesn't drive and I don't know if she could get DS to walk back from nursery up the giant hill with DD in the pram. I suppose I could try and practice it with him beforehand. 🤔 He might be better behaved for my mum though. 🤔 Although DS being at nursery does mean my mum would only have DD for some of the day but it doesn't really help with our shifts as she would be stuck getting them up and out or home and to bed, which are quite stressful parts of the day.

Also, I don't know if DS will be starting nursery in August like he's meant to be due to the virus. 🤷‍♀️ We still haven't even heard if he has a nursery place yet. 🤷‍♀️

It's fine, it will be fine, I'll just have to make it work somehow. And breathe.

I am sure that DS would walk up the big for your mum. I am really sure that your mum will be more than happy to help out where she can. 😊

That does sound like a logistical nightmare. However, these things always have a way of working out so I am sure something will come up, work out for you and things will start to go smoothly. x

I hope you get something in place to enable you to go back to work. I am forever grateful to my mum who would have my two at the drop of a hat. I’m lucky that I was part of the generation to have a mum who didn’t work as it wasn’t the done thing.

  • Coming out of lurkdom :) How about getting a BuggyBoard? That way if DS won't walk up the hill with your mum he can jump on that.

Thanks Beanie, Nicnak, SA & Swimming. 😃

You're probably right Beanie, DS is much better behaved for my mum than for me. 😂 I know my mum will help out as much as she can but I don't want to take the p that's all.

Nicnak & SA, I'm sure I'll figure something out but it will probably take a lot of juggling. I really can't imagine staying at home full time with the kids, I need the break that going to work gives me. 👀

Swimming, our friends gave us a buggy board and so far DS is avoiding it like the plague. 😂 Hopefully we can eventually convince him to try it out, personally I would go on it if it would hold my weight rather than walk up the big hill we live on. 😂

After we got the kids into bed last night DH & I went round to the front garden and DH replaced the trellis at the front. The old one lasted about 5 years and was rotting as it was wooden, the new one is very similar so hopefully it will last another 5 years. I tied up some of the climbing rose and cut a bit back, then cut some of the dead wood off our hebes. We then added more compost to the bed and I finally got my sweet peas planted out and tied up to the trellis. I was exhausted after that and my back was killing from all the bending and twisting. DH made me a G&T after that and we had some microwave popcorn with it. 🍻

I had also managed to repot some of the cucumbers & courgettes earlier in the day (still have 3 to go) and finished earthing up the potatoes, can let them do what they want now.

DS destroyed half of my dianthus by ripping them out of the pot, loads of the ones he pulled out were budding. 😭 He is so destructive in the garden, it's hard to get anything done as I need to keep an eye on him and if I don't he destroys plants. ☹️

DD slept over 12 hours last night and didn't wake up once. 🥳

    12 hours is amazing 😉
Does your DS have a wee part of the garden that is his? My DS used to have a teeny tiny wee bit for him to mess around in & had his own wee tools. I still have his wee watering can as I can’t bear to get rid of it. Funny the things that we keep.
    He is 27 this year!

Sounds like a productive evening and 12 hours must have been lovely. My DD never did that and still doesn't.
