I love Jo Nesbo, Bagpuss, which one is it?
I'm back at work today, it's not too bad as it's very quiet and work is scarce as we wait for other departments to put stuff through to us.
I got a whopping £56 deduction from my rail ticket for disruptions last month :T Even better as I think I was off sick on one of the days there were disruptions!
I tried to cash in my Oyster card and it didn't have a balance on it (just the £3 I paid) but the man said not to cash it in as a) to get a new one now costs £5 and b) mine is apparently a limited edition??? (Who knew?!) I have looked it up on eBay and there is one the same for sale on there for £12.99 so I will put mine on and see what happens.
We're on course for toad in the hole for dinner tonight, just need fresh milk for the mash which DH is picking up.
I tried Zapper last night (following a recommendation on the debt-free challenges board) and they are offering more for some old DVDs than MusicMagpie, DH is going to sort out some old CDs to bring it up to the minimum £10 send for me.

Hi All
This morning we went out shopping and to the park, but it is so bitterly cold we have since retreated to the lounge. Wins for the day so far.
* 3p roadkill
* 4 of the kids favourite smoothies for half price (Womble £3)
* Posted three birthday cards all on 2nd class stamps because we had enough time. Already had cards and stamps in.
* A nice fresh enquiry in my business inbox for March, just replied to that
* Did a bit of cleaning this morning
* Checked banking and moved CB into the joint account
* Checked kids savings subs had moved across automatically today
* Planned baking for later - plums to use up so will make a plum sponge cake, and will do cheese scones at the same time.
* Made a decision as a family, that we won't be renewing our sons dance class subscription this term. We all feel a bit sad as he is very lucky to have a place at one of the top dance colleges in London, which he has had since age 4. But, a) he was split up from his friend last term, through the fact they operate three classes in that age group, and he has enjoyed it less because of that b) we don't have a car and have been spending our whole Saturday morning getting him there and back again which is very prohibitive for us c) We all feel he would be better off doing something local to our house like cubs so he could meet a few more local friends. So it's the end of an era but I think we've really tried and it's time to say goodbye.
* Tonight's dinner is going to be YS pork mince burgers which will cost around 25p per portion
* Used my fine drawing pen that I found yesterday to write the birthday cards.
* OH just put out the christmas tree. It's growing in a pot and has a few brown leaves so hopefully will perk up a bit.
* An anti Womble but we realised DD had stolen a malteaser bunny bar at the tills so we had to go back into the shop to return it.
I complained to Morrison's about a pair of baby tights that were ripped when we recieved them as a christmas present. They said they would send us a coupon for the cost. However having just opened the letter they actually sent a £5 coupon! Which is probably 4 times the value." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Happy brand new 2017 thread to you all!
DH has been instructed to read the meters today as I am paying Eon £199 per month on DD which I'm sure is way over the top for a 2-bed cottage. Would be lovely if they owe me money!
Have a great day all
Hello FatVonD and hope you don't mind me intruding but thought I'd let you know about a couple of things on our website that might help with your E.ON account. Sorry if you already know.
It's great you're taking meter readings. This is the best way to make sure the bills are accurate and only charging for energy actually used. If you've registered with our website, you can let us have the readings through there and also use a tool called Real Time Billing. Pop in the readings and you can either view the balance these would result in or create your own bill.
You can also take more control over the payment arrangement through another online tool. This is the Direct Debit Manager. Provided you've registered with our website, you can use this tool to change the monthly payments to better suit different circumstances. If the account is billed up to the latest meter readings, payments can be changed by up to 20 per cent up or down. By up to 5 per cent up or down without readings. Before confirming the new amount, we'll let you know by how much we expect the account to be in credit/debit if the payments are changed but usage doesn't alter as expected. There's more about this tool on our website.
The aim with our Monthly Direct Debits is to achieve as near as possible to a zero balance by the annual review. At this review, any credit balance over a fiver will automatically be refunded. If there's a debit balance, this will be included in the ongoing arrangement and spread up to the next review.
Hope this is of some interest FatVonD and a happy New Year.

Bob, I can imagine how you are feeling about your son's dance class. We came to the same decision in September about the kids and karate. My eldest lost a bit of love of it when my father/niece got their brown belts but he didn't so he was training with a different group and he just didn't enjoy it anymore. My dad was only doing it to have time/something in common with the kids so they all finished. I must admit that I don't miss the nights of taking the youngest, waiting an hour whilst he had his session, brining him home and then taking the eldest out at 7.30 and then going to pick him up at 9pm, particularly on these dark cold nights
Tonights tea is going to be either a love it or hate it concoction!! but dh is at work so he'll just have to have it when he gets home!! In the fridge we had some leftover smoked salmon, a bit of beef & a bit of chicken & a punnet of mushrooms. I'm cooking some boiled eggs and am going to do some rice, I've also got a sachet of parsley sauce we'd picked up the other night ys from m&s. Will throw in some peas and sweetcorn and make it into a kedgeree type meal??? Fingers crossed it goes down ok with the familyThat will then only leave me with blue cheese & smoked cheese from xmas
Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

Afternoon Campers,
Well, I perked up a bit around yesterday teatime so jumped out of bed this morning expecting to feel better & to be able to throw myself at today and was disappointed to discover the flu hadn't gone. It was just pretending. Back on the max strength flu caplets today, still hacking like an elderly sheep & feeling annoyed with the world. Not been that productive as have to keep sitting down but have done a few things:
*Sorted through all the gift bags, paper, tags ribbons & bows I wombled at Christmas. I definitely won't need to buy much of this sort of thing next December. Made up another half dozen gift tags too, as I had the materials right in front of me. All packed away for next year, also 3 leftover cards plus an unopened pack mr f picked up free from WHS on O2 Priorities.
*Did a few surveys.
*Checked online banking. No sign of the double payment for home insurance. It should have gone out end Oct, then no payment in Nov & first normal payment Dec. Dec payment went out fine, but I can't see a trace of the big double one. Don't want to poke them over this if they've genuinely forgotten a £30 payment, but don't want to find it appears somewhere on our extremely good credit record as a non-payment (even thought it's DD & they have neglected to collect it, IYSWIM)
*Updated grocery budget & paid last weekend's big Sainsbury's shop off CC (used for points only, as usual).
*Reminded mr f to withdraw the rest of the cash I need to pay 3 outstanding Savings Piggies. I haven't been out of the house for over a week now)
*I left tonight's meal blank on my meal plan as I suspected we would have things needing to be used up. Am going to make chickpea curry & rice.
*Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Downstairs heating off until later. Have been upstairs in my little HQ room most of today.
*Put laundry on timer for cheap overnight wash.
*Shuffle yesterday's laundry around the heated airer to get the last of it dry & make room for the next lot.
*Ordered sock yarn for the rest of my current order (luckily had the yarn for 3 pairs out of the 4 already in stock at a really good price). As I was already going to have to pay the p&p, I decided I may as well order a further 3 balls.....2 for knitting Christmas presents & 1 for fulfilling an additional order. Will knit more of current order (big one as 4 pairs men size socks) tonight as I want to get the heel turned today if possible. 4 pairs is a lot of work & I want to see the cash :-)
*Turkey soup made yesterday for our lunch today. Very nice. Turkey makes the nicest stock of the year, I always think.
I had so much more on my list for today but just haven't felt up to it & also got sidetracked by some local political stuff. I think I'll go & crack on with that curry now while I've still got a bit of energy.
If it was your first day back at work today, hope it wasn't too bad.

Evening all :hello:
Well, I survived the first day back at school, with a full teaching day to boot. I did have to have a flyer as soon as school finished though so that I could get home to the kids (childcare stuff), so a bit of a cheat really as I literally only did the teaching and nothing else... But needs must and family first...
Not a nsd as I've had an online shop delivered from Mr T (including a 10p brand match womble
Checked banking and little PAD
Daily housework jobs done - washing, dishes, rubbish and hoover
Packed lunch at work
Leftover cheese served on toast for dinner tonight
Just about to relax with all of my guilt for not doing enough school work today and try and finish knitting a dress.
It's so lovely to see the thread so busy and everyone doing so well.:T
Not giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt
Time to take back control
