Happy brand new 2017 thread to you all!
I have plotted my remaining three days holiday so that I can get away with buying three weekly rail tickets in February at a cost of £219 to get me to the end of the short month as opposed to a monthly ticket which would cost me £280. I'm then on track to buy a monthly again (if I have work) at the beginning of March which is a long month so I will get 4 weeks and 3 days out of that ticket :T
DH has been instructed to read the meters today as I am paying Eon £199 per month on DD which I'm sure is way over the top for a 2-bed cottage. Would be lovely if they owe me money!
I'm off to do a shop to last us the week, I will check the freezer first but I think spaghetti and pasta are going to be featuring on the menu on a regular basis! I'm thinking of doing the leftover meatballs with spaghetti and I have a bowl of cherry tomatoes left over which will go into my courgette and salami pasta one night. I'll probably also plan to do the lovely courgette and anchovy spaghetti recipe that somebody at work gave me (it's lush but VERY garlicky!)
DH is changing the bedsheets today and we will probably take the decorations down and put the tree back out in the garden until it's next appearance!
DS and DSGF (who from now on I will be referring to as the teens) were both given sandwich toasters this Christmas so are big on toasties at the moment for lunches so I just need to buy some bits to go inside them (we already have bread.)
I remembered last night that I have a small credit on an Oyster card that I haven't used for years so I can cash that in plus get the deposit back once I'm back at work.
I have signed up for a few challenges (need to get some stuff on eBay) and am feeling quite excited about the New Year.

Hi again everyone
OH is feeling poorly today so has stocked up on some foreign remedies and has gone back to bed for a little siesta. (Think of all that money saving with coffee, breakfast, lunch, and a sneaky beer for me all in the apartment rather than 2 or 3 coffee shops/restaurants :rotfl:)
Foxgloves - your day sounds v productive considering you still don't feel well, you domestic superstar!
Cheery Daff - I'm the same - worked until Christmas eve and got this full week off - v grateful!
I've been looking at the challenges to see if I want to join in with any of them this year... Don't know whether a savings one or a non-spending one would be for me. I used to like £2 coin savings and VSP but I never remembered to post on the boards.0 -

I hope your OH feels better soon. After the debacle that was our holiday, I really feel for him! If you are ill though, it's much better to be in an apartment; we were glad of the two rooms!LBM 11/06/2010: DFD 30/04/2013Total repaid: £10,490.310 -
Aww. La E - "Domestic supetstar". Like it. Actually, I have realised that this last couple of hours, I haven't felt as rubbish. I think I might finally be starting to pick up!
FatVonD - £199 a month? That sounds really high to me, esp for a 2 bedroom cottage. We are in a 3-bedroom 1930s semi. Our joint gas & elecrticity has been £107 a month for ages but due to us being £574 in credit, our monthly payment has now been reduced to £80. I asked for the £74 to be paid back to our bank account. I left the £500 credit in place for winter, but if we are still significantly in credit by Spring, I will definitely be requesting a further repayment.
Hope your investigations show that they are sitting on a big wodge of your money which you can then get refunded.

Hi from a once-regular, then lurker...I'm back and de-lurking in a effort to get a grip once more! 2016 was a very tough, very sad year, during which (somewhat against all odds) we did complete (very almost complete - still odds and ends ongoing) some major building work and some big achievements at work - but against some personal tragedies that made daily activity a bit of a struggle to keep on top of. Starting 2017 with resolutions to find some balance and the small things thread seems the perfect place to start. Have thought of you all during my year away Foxgloves, LeE, Ziggy, Dnms Bob and delighted to get to know some others. Good luck with all of your efforts this coming year!
Little things today...- Left purse behind deliberately when accompanying DD to town! She has plenty of spending money should she need it!
- Took 5 bags to the charity shop - I still have lots of boxes, cupboards and shelves to go through but am trying to be more decisive in my decluttering!
- Heating off all am while DD slept in..I curled up on the sofa with a hot water bottle!
- 3 loads of washing done. 2 tumbled, one drying now heating is on.
- B,L,D all from xmas leftovers, mainly cheese and salad. Dinner tonight, chilli and salad and some squidgy potatoes
- Update expenses at work (min of 30 min today)
- Update ArB&B website with new pics of room
- Xmas decs down and packed away
- Ironing for working week
not looking forward to going back!

Hi Crazy lady. Lovely to *see* you back. Luckylady and I have changed our user names, sorry to confuse
sorry you've had a difficult 2016, many of us on here can relate to that. Hope to see you more often
Day ran away with us a bit, DDs had a party. No spends as I was treated to a brew by a friend
Leftovers for lunch for DH and I. Harrissa lamb put back into its tomato gravy with some extra veggies and leftover cous cous :T girls ate at party. Doing Lego with the girls when we're back, wanted to make a set. Spent at least 5 minutes looking for a chicken joint for the BBQ. It was so tiny, but surprisingly satisfying when I did :rotfl:
Girls already in pyjamas. I managed some in house exercise after taking inspiration from CLF - big thanks. Abs feeling it nowhoping to be able to keep it up say every other day. Then running when I can. Food has been reasonably under control today too.

Hi all
Quite a spendy day celebrating DS2s birthday. DS1 managed to swap shifts at work so he came with us which was lovely. I spent a grand total of £4 in the sales on a book and a sports top.
Enjoy the rest of your hols LaE.
Our electricity alone is £85 a month for a 3 bed semi - then we have to pay for heating oil on top. I have tried really hard to cut it down unsuccessfully and dont really know why it is so much, other than the fact that our oven and hob is electric, we have an electric shower and 2 freezers.0
