Katy_ann sorry to hear your son has had to go into hospital.

Ziggy saddened to hear about OH pending operation.

Wishing your family members a speedy recovery.

Ally I would also go for the promotion, good luck with what ever you decide.

YorkshireLass I rarely shower daily. The in between days I have a wash at the sink.

Not sure what our plans for today are, plan to get back later with an update.

The Wee Geek's has a quandary:

Since June I have been working as a Senior Manager looking after 600 or so employees. I've been told I'm doing ok at it.

Now I need to make a decision:

    (A) Stay as I am and risk being possibly paid off soon as the demand for the business I work in drops away. I don't have another job to go to; and I'm allergic to Jobcentres.

    (B) Apply for a promotion. A few folk at work reckon I would be suitable for this job, I'm probably capable, but I'm apprehensive, frightened of failure. :o This would be a permanent role.

What do you reckon folks? (A) or (B)

Ally I'd go for the promotion. Everyone is scared up to a point. In fact the people who aren't are either coasting along or too stupid to be....

    Morning

Today is my first day of solo parenting as OH is back at work. So far so good. It's freezing here literally, frost up the windows etc.

I am going to get them both out to the park shortly. Make the most of the sunshine.

Had a crappy surprise to wake to, which essentially puts me back £800 over two months. But I'm going to get it sorted and use it to motivate me rather than sit here whining. And TBH with all the sadness people are going through on the thread money stuff feels for once a bit secondary. Hugs to everyone who is going through stressful times today.

    My list
    * Checked banking on both sides
    * Coffee at home and will make a flask of tea to take to the park
    * Supplies will do all day so no need to spend anything
    * Will bake as I had planned the other day (plum cake and cheese scones)
    * Will get DS to make a home made card to someone who sent a christmas cheque

    Think that's it.

    Bob

    Hello Thursday Savers,
Well, the cough & snot are ongoing......will it ever end? Have done a few jobs though, some of them money saving:
*All the laundry had dried over night on the heated airer so was able to sort it all out & iron what needed doing. Pressed & packed away Christmas table linens, etc, so they are ready to use next year.
*Tweaked meal plans as fancied making a big fish pie All ingredients for this in stock & intend to do enough for tomorrow's dinner too, as well as rounding up veg that needs using.
*Finished next week's meal plans. Two meals rolled over into next week as a knock-on effect of the fish pie.
*Start shopping list - haven't done this yet, but intend to do so while the fish is poaching later.
    *Did a few surveys.
*Postie brought my sock yarn order - La E - you asked me where I got it? I use various places online (as there is nowhere local to me now where I can purchase sock yarn in store. I would MUCH rather support an actual shop) depending on price/availability. This order came from Wool Warehouse. I now have sufficient to finish this order, do a further one & knit 2 pairs for Christmas gifts, so it's goo to think that's the financial outlay (if not yet the knitting time) already committed for 2 gifts for 2017!
*Made a loaf in the BM.
*Our hungry garden birds had a pot of scraps, the crumbs out of the toaster, a manky apple & some porridge oats.
*Tidied out my wardrobe. 2 items for charity shop bag & several for the bin. Resurrected a cardi I haven't worn for ages.
*Knit more sock order. Should finish first pair out of 4 tonight.
*Not downstairs heating on until later. Sun is streaming through lounge window which is taking the edge off the chill & I shall be making a HWB soon, when I'm ready to sit down for a bit.
*More use-it-up......have had a roll-on deodorant standing upside down for the last week after it appeared to be empty & there was sufficient product inside for nearly a week of use.
That will be it for today as I'm still nowhere near 100%, but I'm thinking lots about money saving, so that's got to be a good sign.
KatyAnn - Very stressful time for you with such a new tiny being a poorly boy. Positive vibes being sent.
Ziggy - That's a big worry. Sounds like it needs doing, though, so everyone will need to be very brave. Positive vibes to all of you too. Probably the best way forward is to support each other like mad & plan like crazy as soon as you have the relevant dates/timescale.
    Right, must get cracking.

Hi Ally - Just kicking in my two pennorth about your job dilemma.
I think on a practical level the decision is coming down to your fears & self doubts.
It's absolutely normal to feel a significant degree of trepidation when applying for a promotion. Unless it's someone incredibly arrogant & abundant in self-love (I think we've all known one or two such individuals over our working lives!), it is really normal to be fretting over questions such as
    Will I get it?
Will I be able to do it?
Will the people I'm managing/working with like me?
    Will I like it?
All these are completely normal worries when we put ourselves 'out there' to try & move up a level in any hierarchical structure. I suppose what I'm trying to get you to think about is whether your fears are pretty much on this level, or whether we are actually talking more towards the end of the scale which I would call not so much 'normal levels of fear' but more sort of pant-pooingly horrible terror. If the thought of this possible promotion is more on this scale, & you are actually terrified beyond a 'normal' degree of what this change could mean, then I think you do have to consider that not going for it is also an option. Workers often have experience of individuals being promoted way beyond their abilities (I'd need all my fingers & toes to count the hapless individuals I've worked with who have somehow risen to the top on bug*er-all skill, charm & ability!) but in your case, it sounds as though some of your workers are telling you that you could do this promotion & I think that often says more coming from co-workers than it does coming from management. I'm sure you can do the job......or almost ANY job if you are used to managing a team of 600 (I mean, how is that even legal?!) & that it has come down to your tendency to be overly self-critical, doubt & fear. I also have a tendency to beat myself up & there are rare times when it helps, but mostly it is self-limiting.
    Here's another option.
Say you applied for the promotion & you got it.
Say you threw yourself into the new role & if after giving it a reasonable shot you found it was just not for you, there is nothing wrong with being honest about that. If you resigned from that role, would it mean that you could never be employed again with this company in a role similar to the one you currently have? Surely they are not going to turn down good, reliable tried & tested workers?
Nobody can make the decision for you. I think I would say 'Go for it'. It would be good to stick 2-fingers to the job centre by getting a permanent role. Accept that NOBODY get a promotion & finds this/herself totally 100% at home in the role during the first few months. Give it your best shot & if you really don't like it after you've given it a decent trial period, then you do have the freedom to look at other options. And another thing......you'll already have worked for this company from worker-ant role upwards, so you will already have a good insight into their working practices & possible improvement routes.
But if you're sitting there right now thinking 'I can't do it, I'm not good enough', AllyDowd, you can knock that sort of thinking on the head right now!!

    Afternoon all :)
((Hugs)) to Katy Ann and Ziggy, thinking of you xx
Ally, go for it. Think about it, you are already working there, you know the job, who else could do it better? :) Having a permanent post would take away the worry of the jobcentre, and what is to lose anyway by applying? The company will at least know that you are committed and would like a permanent role with them :)

Been to the dentist this morning for a filling, so have a numb mouth and a lighter wallet :( Still, it was painless, I do have a really good dentist. Called into garden centre after as we were passing and I need a larger pot and some compost to repot my orchid, which is bursting out of its current pot. Found some reduced chicken in their farm shop, but only bought one pack as freezer space is tight.
Apart from that I have / will:
Bit of paperwork for business Done
Sold a couple of bits on ebay 3 parcels packed and ready for posting tomorrow :)
List some more things - done 2 so far Just the two :o Must get on with this - I have lost my listing mojo since Christmas! Especially as one ofthe items I listed today sold within a couple of hours :T
Tidy up as we are expecting visitors tomorrow afternoon Done
Make some cakes to go with afternoon tea (tomorrow) :)Not done - must fit this in tomorrow somewhen!
Phone appointment with doctor later - not sure what all that is about :(A couple of out of normal range blood test results, but it doesn't sound anything major to worry about. Another blood test booked for the end of the month though.
Make a curry for dinner Ended up having leftovers, curry will do another day though!
Managed without heating downstairs so far, fire alight soon probably as it very cold again today :(
Cancelled a membership I don't use. Only £2.99 a month, but better in my pocket than theirs!

Ally, go for the promotion, from what we *know* of you on here you come across as very smart and capable, if anyone can do the job then I'm sure you can :)

I ate my leftover macaroni cheese for lunch and brought some crisps from a multipack in to snack on.

MalcMy meter reading still hasn't updated on Eon and I had an email saying they want to put my direct debit up by another £100 per month. I have spoken to someone really helpful and he is now dealing with it all on email with me (I've sent him the photo of the meter) and it looks like our moving in reading was wrong. Sadly he's only in until 4pm todayand then off until Monday, I'm hoping he can sort it before he goes but he has put my account on hold until he has.
    Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

Afternoon guys, thanks for all your well wishes, little man was moved to a high dependency unit last night as they have better equipment to treat him, he's a little more "active" today but still struggling a little bit to breathe and is still being fed by a feeding tube through his nose into his tummy, I'm expecting we will still be in for a good few days, but he is in the right place and is getting amazing care! I've stayed at the hospital for the last 2 nights and hubby is going to stay tonight and allow me to get at least one nights sleep, I hate the thought of leaving DS overnight but I know hubby will ring if there is any problems.

Ziggy - So sorry to hear your news, thinking of you and your DH.

Today hasn't been a NSD as I bought lunch at the hospital which was super expensive, I think when I go in tomorrow morning I will make something to take with me and I also had to buy a day ticket on the bus to get to and from the hospital as I'm still not allow to drive after my C-section.

I'm taking almost a full pack of nappies back to the hospital tonight when I go as DS didn't get on with them and the children's unit at the hospital can make better use of them rather then throwing them away!

No real plans today, I've had a tidy up of the house and put a load of washing on when I got back from the hospital, DH has been at home alone for 2 days so you can imagine the state of the house! Men!

    Take care everybody x
