Karcher; quite right - you have a nice day just relaxing and stay warm. Sometimes we just have to listen to our body don't we.

Valli glad you went out and saw your friend last night, sending hugs.

Narco we have one of those energy meter thingys and it really focuses your mind on how much power is being used. I thought of you actually as bought one of those window bird feeders from L&dl on Friday but got a feeling it won't be a success - mainly because one of the suction pads keeps coming undone so the feeder is on a bit of an angle. May have to invest in a proper one; this one didn't cost much (and it shows).

Bossy that was an expensive breakfast yesterday!

Redshank and Loudmouth hope you feel a bit better today. These grey and gloomy days are the pits aren't they. Times like this I try to think spring will be here soon and watch out for new buds coming on the trees etc.

Jazee as others have said maybe you need to get that ankle xrayed?

J and S out this morning and Z is still asleep. Got 2 bits of work come in so think I may get them done today as not available tomorrow morning. Also got washing, ironing and vacuuming to do. Have a good day!

    Morning all
Hugs to all who need them especially Iona (mr & mrs) Valli dizzy ATB and anyone else who's struggling at the mo.
I've kept up on the lists, started new job plus keeping original one and any o/t extra hours they offer so staying busy. Went for a walk to local pub with Dh yesterday as it's Dh birthday next week on the way we nipped in local factory shop that seems to be the clearing house for all of bhs old stock so got a few bargains. Biggest bargain that ds was happy with was a pair of leather hipster cowboy boots for a tenner!

Right to family round for lunch so better get on.
    Have a good day all

Bought a steam cleaner... used it... am horrified by how disgusting the floors were. It seems to have lifted what I thought was ingrained dirt from the 'temporary' (second hand, free) vinyl that I've had on the floors for the last three years.

Ensuite floor looks fabulous. So does bathroom (but travertine is great for hiding dirt). So steam cleaner was well worth the investment. Now I just need to get back into routines for cleaning and slowly improve the state of the place over time.

Green bee, do you spray anything (cleaning product wise)on the floor first? Or do you just use the steamer?
  • Karcher Good idea, none of us on here probably rest enough, I had a nap yesterday afternoon.

Loudmouth I have "temporary vinyl" too in my utility room and ds loo. Mind has been down about 15 years but hubby has plans. Watch this space ...

DS1 was reorganising his bedroom yesterday and chucked a big box of stuff out onto the landing. He wants me to help him sort it he says. Christmas tree is also on the landing - folded up - waiting to go in the loft. I need DH to sort that.

Have done 2 hrs paid stuff and have some paperwork for DH to do but other than that I am trying to have a lazy day today. Leg of lamb in sc for tea and a bit of washing to sort. Hoping DH might take DS2 to footie.

Greenbee - I had a steam cleaner once and it was v difficult to use so I got rid of it. It was a while ago so wondering whether I should revisit the idea? Sounds like yours worked well!
It has made a HUGE difference on the first use. The problem with living in a permanent building site is that it is very difficult to keep on top of the dust and dirt. I try to, but it tends to be superficial cleaning rather than a deep clean.

I'm hoping that when the builders return this will help me to keep on top of things (it converts to a handheld steamer as well as a mop - I wouldn't have just got the handheld, but I can see it being useful for windows etc).

Nope - just unpacked it and used it straight out of the box. (I had hoovered) I should have washed the pads first, but couldn't be bothered so will do them today and have ordered some more. I did mop afterwards with floor cleaner (think this one is Bio D multi-surface) and there was still some dirt, but nothing like it would have been. I think it will take a few weeks of regular hoovering/mopping/steaming to get things civilised, but it looks better already!

I won't be able to use it on the upstairs floors as they are painted floorboards (softwood), but when downstairs floors are done they will be mostly stone/tile with either bamboo or hardwood for the rest. I just need to get them levelled first (this house is seriously wonky, plus there are channels in the floor where the heating pipework used to run that need filling in) so hope to get the builders to come in and screed the downstairs floors in the spring.

Not much done today. Miserable outside. Think I might try to persuade myself to go for a walk and get rid of some of the glass recycling.

    Morning all,

Have not been on here since I went back to work on Tuesday as I work f/t and the rest of the time I have been trying to work on assignment - deadline Tuesday. I am seriously struggling with it which hasn't been helped with a migraine that started on Friday. Have just had a quick fly through the thread so lots of hugs on offer.

As for tools in van, dont leave them in, it's a while ago now but my DB found caught someone trying to half inch his. Despite him being fit and 6'4" the toe rag managed to stab him several times and DB ended up with a scar from chest to naval where the doctors had to go in and repair the damage.

Agree with the childcare issue, I only used family for back up when my paid child care failed, was so much easier to ask for a favour in an emergency.

Well decs were down and all put away on Tuesday so everything is still fairly straight in most rooms, the worst room in the house is our bedroom but that will take a week alone to sort and isn't on the agenda.

Today's plans are to shower then walk doogie down to shop s for a few bits I need then back to the college stuff. Hopefully I can get DH to cook dinner.
Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!

Green bee, thanks for that, I do have a steamer but don't use it. I have dusted it off and going to use it in the bathroom . I do like the smell of a antibacterial stuff so may have a quick squirt!

Another one here settling for a lazy afternoon. DH has gone to visit FiL, DD has finally emerged but disapppeared with her homework, so I have downstairs to myself for once. Went for a jog in thick fog this morning. Came back dripping from the fog, but it looked as if I was sweating like mad after running for miles instead of a quiet jog around the lanes! Cue massive hair frizz:eek: I'm thinking that I might turn out the baking cupboard, as it's all falling out every time I open the door. Dinner is in SC for later. Have restful afternoons everyone.

Talking of steamers, ours is shortly to be deployed on the bath. I steamed the bath-lift to within an inch of it's life the other day, but was too exhausted after to do the bath itself at the time.

I didn't get online yesterday, as I was doing some serious mega-Flying.
Recently the DVD player died and was replaced; well now the ancient hi-fi system has finally packed up (been hinky for a long time) so Mr LW got a replacement for that too; and I said there was to be no argument, we were going to have my desk and the hi-fi/tv etc cupboard all out from the wall, give everything behind/under them a good clean, and sort out the spaghetti of wiring.

It took us most of the day, and has pretty much wrecked my hands and arms, but it's now all clean and tidy, the wires are no longer tangled together in a super-cats-cradle; all the plugs are labelled (at my insistence) - and as the new unit is smaller and more space-efficient generally, I've been able to house the two shoe-boxes - one containing DSi and games, the other with Wii bits - inside the cupboard, insteadof on to of my sewing box. :T

I also blagged Mr LW into buying me a pint afterwards..... :D

Anyways, the bath awaits.... see you later. ;)

DH took down lampshade in living room for me to clean. Very happy it's done, it was driving me mad.
I am another having a lazy afternoon. Just making lunch then we will have cheese and biscuits this evening. We have so much cheese left from Christmas. I have promised myself we will open a bottle of cava I was given too.
DD is all ready to go back to school and I am looking forward to starting next weeks lists with gusto !
