Update on my clothes dryer via dehumidifier
It has been going for nearly 3 hours (plus one hour earlier before I went out) some clothes are dry others no where near. I need to learn to load the airer more efficiently. I am on a prepay meter and the cost for the 3 hours worked out as 37p (obviously not all on the dehumidifier as I had other things running, but not much).
Is anyone on a pre-pay meter who using a tumble drier? would you be able to check and let us know how much that costs for a load for us to do a very rough comparison.
Hi
My electric costs 12.18p per kwh. The tumbler drier is 2500 watts so for me it costs 30p an hour. This compares to 3p per hour for the dehumidifier and 2p per hour for my heated airer. Your electric probably costs a bit more if you are on a prepayment meter but its a rough guide.
Hugs Iona x
Sore throat. Planning am early night but DS1 is at a party and it was all a bit vague about whether he is staying or not so my taxi services may be required.0 -
Blimey, just read your post properly LW, you always sound so cheerful, I think you are allowed to complain a bit. And there is me feeling sorry for myself with a sore throat!0

Thank you, my calculations must be wrongit can't be that my dehumidifier works out more than a tumble drier to dry clothes  I thought it sounded expensive when I posted.
I am going to keep a check on my electric usage, you are right I pay more for the pre-pay, I am happy with that as I like the convenience of no big surprise bills, but its not right its that much more! either I miss read the numbers or something is running in my house that is eating the electric0 -

If it's old it could be very energy (and effectively) inefficient.
It may be more MSE to buy a new, far more energy efficient dehumidifier. I bought one recently for £100 and it is definitely more economic and efficient than my over 20 year old one.

Have you got one of those meters that you can look at and see what is using a lot? We got one from our electricity supplier (NP*wer) and it was simple to attach/plug in whatever. You can see the usage whizz up when you boil a kettle.
Not much in the way of flying today. Mr N took most of the decorations down while I was at the gym, just the tree to dismantle tomorrow. I did a private assessment this afternoon so that's another to write up, sigh. Just come back from a meal out for a friend's birthday, so that negates the gym at least.
Mr N took his mum to see the new (to her) flat and she has signed for it. She's resigned to having to move and I just hope she will be happy. It is so much more convenient - ground floor, flat short walk to the shops instead of steep hill to a small town/large village. She can collect the keys on Monday and has 2 weeks before she needs to vacate her old flat, so we've booked carpet fitter to measure up next Fri and fit carpets the following Tuesday. The next couple of weeks will be spent helping her pack and declutter.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.0 -
Hugs Ionafan. Hope Mr I's tests go ok X
Gentle hugs to LW. I never think you are having a pitty party. It helps others understand a little of what you are going through. I wish you to be as well as can be and lots of doggy bookings x
Basics done by me. Bunks changed by DS1 in exchange for his bus card being topped up again.
Met best friend for a cuppa.
Toddler proofed LR. Great niece and niece came for a visit.
Washed towels and boys' bedding.
Bins emptied ready for bin day tomorrow0 -
Morning all. Hope you're all ok today.
My house is a pit so today I have to just tidy, maybe hoover, collect my new glasses, try to walk the dogs and start on a batch of 500 fairy cakes for the charity fundraiser I didn't say no to.
And I popped in the docs yesterday about my ankle, advice was to go to hospital for x-ray, but it's eased a little today so I won't bother.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
