I find saying no hard as I am a helpful person by nature, and I like being busy, but that was just one step too far. If they were in financial difficulty and couldn't afford to send him to nursery I would have said yes in a heartbeat and altered DS pre-school days accordingly, but my SiL alone earns over £150k per annum (she told me when she was drunk on Boxing Day - it makes my eyes water).

Plus I am a bit sore about the fact that I have been left to do all MiLs laundry (whilst she is on holiday I might add - early flight so no time to strip the bed or gather it all together) - MiL has 4 kids, I'm not her child, so why can't someone else (e.g. SiL?!) do it!

Right, I have cheered up now :D off to S&S something :T

    Ooo I'm good today!

Bins sorted, pile of tat sorted, hallway sorted (ish), LR all sorted, kitchen sorted. I have a small basket of things to rehome later, and a bag for the charity shop. I also have a suitcase empty in the loft than can go...

WM is on, as I could only find my least liked jeggings this morning, so will have something to wear tomorrow.

More :coffee: then I will sit down and fill in passport forms for the kids. Will message teacher pal about signing them...

Welcome Mrs MoneyPimp! Whatever you get done is an achievement and if you don't wear yourself out you'll be ready to do a bit more tomorrow. Little and often definitely works.
    - Done MiLs laundry for her

Mini rant alert so feel free to ignore - because I work from home for DH, most of his and my family don't seem to class that as actual work, therefore think I am on hand to do childcare/errands/"favours" at the drop of a hat. SiL has texted me this morning to ask if I can have my nephew one day a week every week going forwards. It's one of the days DS goes to pre-school, and DD is of course at school, so I am childfree and use that time to really crack on with work. So I've said no, very kindly of course, and explained why. I am not paying for my own child to be in childcare and look after someone elses on that very same day! She has the hump. !!!!!!.

Anyone else feel the urge to slap ATB's high-earning sister-in-law for her? It's good to know you're trusted but Oh Dear!

Honey bear, I am still only 62!

Soz for aging you by nine months. Does your daughter fully understand that you could have decided not to have any more skids, in which case she wouldn't exist? All teenagers are embarrassed by their mothers, your age is just an excuse. She'll grow up eventually and blossom into the lovely person she's keeping captive behind all that eye-rolling and those sighs. Flyladies think you're fabby just as you are. Well done on the NSDs since Christmas Eve.

Must dust and then run the Dyson's battery flat sucking up dog hair so the place looks cleanish.
    Better is good enough.

I am the eldest child of older parents, mum and dad were 43 when I was born, 45 when my brother was born.

Yes it was difficult being dropped off and people thinking they were grandparents, not parents. This was even more so, when Mum died very young and Dad was a single parent to a 7 and 5 year old.

Sometimes I did get embarrassed by Dad trying to do things that his body couldn't, playing football with my brother in the park was one but .... no matter what ..... I loved him and knew he loved us even though he was not a tactile person.

I suppose what I am trying to say is she may feel embarrassed, but it probably feels more like strange than embarrassing, that you are a similar age to friends grandparents, but I am sure she loves you and her Dad no matter what

Mumof2 I hope poor S is a little more settled today; I do so sympathise, I used to dread going back to school - but then I dreaded being at home if my father was in, too. :( Confidence vibes for your young man. ;)

I knew I'd like you.... I regularly team a red top with a purple skirt. Both are a sort of velvety material, and the skirt is ankle-length (I rarely wear anything shorter).:D

Problem is, now my kitchen is full of tat I neither want nor need.
    Fling, fling, flingetty fling! :rotfl:

Most of the lounge has already been done, and we have no stairs, so I've been Flying off-piste today, and steam-cleaned the bathroom suite and the bath-lift. :o

Also been into town for meds (predictably, the script for morphine tablets wasn't ready, but Mr LW was told it will be tomorrow afternoon); visited the F&V stall and got two HUGE cloth bags full of produce for a fiver; and a quick stop in Morries for Mr LW's cholesterol-busting yogurt drinks.

A puzzle for you all: Why is morphine sulphate in tablet form classed as a Controlled drug, but morphine sulphate in liquid form isn't? I have them both - the tablets are sustained release, the liquid is for what they term "breakthrough pain" and is in a sugar syrup in order that it will act quickly. It just seems strange to me - the active ingredient is the same drug, but one I have a heck of a job getting, and have to sign my life away each time, the other is as readily available on request as all my other meds.

Hello and thanks for the welcome! Today was first day back at paid stuff for DH and me, and back to school for DD. Not as bad in reality as the thought! Anyway, very little flying done, although WM is now on, DW emptied....and that's about it. Did manage to get all the Xmas decs down and away yesterday afternoon though which was a result. So now I can see the dust that has been breeding for the past fortnight ;) Oh well, onwards and upwards!

Thank you all for your hugs re S - thankfully he came home with a big grin on his face; he'd had a great day and said he didn't know what he was so worried about! I, on the other hand, went downhill this afternoon and ended up feeling really sad and cuddling up to Whiz Whippet on the sofa after all my housework and promptly fell asleep as so tired!

Speaking of housework, done everything on the list apart from vacuum stairs which I'm just about to do now and hang up the washing. I've also wiped the window sills with a damp cloth (bleugh - didn't know they were that bad!), and cleared a whole area of carp and put it in DH's extension ..... I will get this room nice if it kills me! Also cleared the mantelpiece as much I can with DH's DVDs everywhere and just generally made it feel a lot nicer.

ATB can't believe what you told us about SIL - what a cheek!! I work from home too and find because I don't have a 'proper' job people think I just have nothing to do with my time and don't appreciate I have deadlines to meet/reports to turn out etc etc. As for MILs washing - humph, that's not on.

Bossy maybe the tat in your kitchen could be flung as LW suggests? Seems sensible to me if you don't want or need it.

Welcome to the newbies - lovely to have you flying with us!!

ATB - just wanted to nail my colours to the 'SiL is taking the proverbial' school of thought. And agree with HoneyBear! !!!!!!. And how about a rota so you don't end up doing all mils work. If they don't want to do it they could pay for home care/cleaner.

Car fixed but not until late afternoon so I stayed at work all pm until it was. So they've had a half day out of me. Brownie points for Valli.

Did WM then TD this am, was towels, and a DW. That'll probably be it.

Stay with us delurkers and newbies!

  • Hello

Been back at work today so will probably not do too many levels of flying this week. OH did 3 x trips to the tip to get rid of all the rubbish accumulated over the last 2 weeks. I've been sorting the rooms out here and there and konmari'd a fair bit.

Tuesday - Lovely Living Rooms and Safe Stairs
    Level One
V[STRIKE]acuum floors in these areas, even if around clutter
Clear anything from the stairs! Safe stairs are a must[/STRIKE]
    Level Two
Move clutter so you can vacuum under it
[STRIKE]Vacuum and wipe (if needed) sofas[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Dust any areas below eye level [/STRIKE]
    Level Three
Dust anything above eye level (if safe to do so)
[STRIKE]Clear anything that shouldn't be where it is, ahem that includes that cup![/STRIKE]
Wipe the bits next to the steps on the stairs, yours might be skirting board, edging of some sort, grab a cloth and give it a wipe

Extra Mission Tasks - as usual if you fancy tackling something else you could try one or more of these
Clean windows in these areas, check curtains/nets/blinds while you are there, do they need a clean?
Check where important documents like passports, birth certificates, driving licences, medical cards are and make a note of where they are and if any need replacing, changing etc
Spend 15 minutes sorting paperwork, dealing with anything urgent NOW
Clean any ornaments, mirrors, clocks or other dust collecting collections
[STRIKE]Clean out the vacuum cleaner, empty the bag/bucket, clean filters if they are washable MAKE SURE YOU DON'T PUT THEM BACK UNTIL THEY ARE DRY![/STRIKE]

  • Thanks for all your support ladies. Had a long chat with DH about it all when he telephoned - I wasn't going to, as it's his family and I didn't want to argue, but he agreed with me fully that it's not on. So it stops right now, ATB will no longer be the go-to girl in the family for all their favours and errands!

    Mumof2 - I am so pleased he had a good day :j
Bossy - get it all flung :D

Will be getting the kiddies in bed shortly, then having dinner whilst watching Call the Midwife that I recorded over Christmas. See you all tomorrow x
