Frump to Fab 2017 - A Whole New World

  • Today we woke up to no heating! Fortunately it's a lot milder than the past few days.

In order to get back on track with my half marathon training I went to a local Parkrun first thing and on the way home stopped at Screwfix to get a couple of convection heaters.

I jumped in the shower and the boiler sprang into life, so I don't think it's dead as it recognises when we need the hot water topping up, but it's just not recognising the thermostat. So far we've but the heaters on low and they're doing a good job, but I think they can be quite costly on the electric. I'll call the gas engineer on Monday morning.

The only fabbing I've done is body moisturising with Garnier Summer Sun to keep hold of my tan. My plan for this afternoon is to go through all my toiletries with the aim of using them up before replacing. I've started to follow that thread on here too.

    Have a good weekend.
  • Weekend fabbing seems a bit more like hard work when all that's in store is dog walking and chores! However I managed the perfume (late morning!) and earrings.

Good news is that my foot files and peel have arrived.....thanks to Ali-t and babe1 again for their advice. The Leighton Denny products do seem excellent and have done a bit of sample foot sanding they are good. Foot peel may have to wait until I have 60-90 minutes where I know I won't have to move much. In the meantime I'll keep sanding :j

    Enjoy your weekend

    AA.

    Hello my lovelies

Well I've been busy.....have got the ball rolling with all funeral areangements etc and legal stuff, so that's all nicely under control. Can't do any more now till Monday.

Made a first sweep through dad's paperwork, so pleased with that.

Fabbing.....have booked a hair appt for next week, and Physio for following week. Gave myself a face mask this morning. Feel much better.

    Marie Kondo Strikes AGain!!!! :rotfl:

This weekend I am having a major bedroom declutter. I intend to be ruthless.

I am only going to keep my absolute favourites - the rest is going.......even if it still has labels on and has never been worn.

    Yes I'm guilty as charged......

Far too many "it will do" purchases, no it don't do!!!!

Too many mistakes, too many unflattering garments, too much that is just plain dull and boring, too much that just screams "old lady".

My new mantra will be "fewer clothes, but better clothes".

You know when I see the pile that is going out I realise that cheap is most definitely not cheerful. I have wasted a small fortune on bargain buys.:o and they are all horrible.

From now on I shall shop like a Frenchwoman.:rotfl:

    So my goal is.......

A moratorium on all clothes spending. I do not need any more clothes until summer.

I shall weed out all the crap, keep only the good stuff and WEAR IT.

Right I'm going in.......I might be some time.:rotfl:

Many moons ago I worked with the most chic and polished lady. Her hair was always immaculate, as was her minimal make up, I think that she would have been in her late 50's, which was considered quite old then:( This was well before equal pay, so we all only earned a pittance as clerics or secretaries. Her clothes were stylish and very expensive looking with a size 14/14 figure and being about 5ft 8ins, we younger ones were quite in awe.

Her secret was really down to buying good quality, well made classic styles which were all far beyond our buying capability but she nearly always bought from the Blue X sales in the department stores. Many Saturdays she would go into town and look at the clothes, ear mark those she liked and that suited her and fitted her well and stalk them until that final week of the sales. Her accessories were few, but again great quality and she wore a scarf like no one I had ever met before. I would add that she was always very tight on funds, having taken on the mortgage and brought up her daughter on her own after her ex jumped ship leaving her with an adored child, he did pay maintenance for the little one until she was 16, but nothing to M as he signed over the quite small equity in the house to her, divorce settlements in those days being quite meager too.

Sorry to go on a bit......., but reading the above LL made me think of her again, and I picture you with your new resolution in a similar vein.:D

ll and maddie I think clothes aren't made to last anymore, even with the expensive brands, the quality had gone down hill. What I have found that works, is to buy 'mindfully'. By this, I mean buying items that fit well (sleeves, shoulders, length), the colour, how it fits in with your lifestyle, how the item makes you feel..... I only buy stuff that makes me look and feel great and I enjoy most of my wardrobe now and wear the majority of it regularly.

I try to do the same. There's nothing I hate more than trying to replace something specific that I loved, so it's made me fiercely brand loyal. I've actually had the exact same Next leather jacket in a size 8 (2006, brand new), 14 (2014 eBay) and 10 (2016 eBay).

Hair cut on Tuesday and I'm quite excited. I love that galaxy hair (below) but I can't go that bold because of work, so I'm hoping to get the mid layers or even just the roots done and then I can hide it under brunette. My hair is currently shoulder length and it's going to be chopped off (I'll let the hair dresser choose the style, but I draw the line at any shaving!). I haven't had very short hair in over 10 years. The difficulty will be finding a short style that keeps me "safe" with the colour; maybe we'll end up chopping it off on the next cut instead.

Maddie. Your friend sounds like my auntie S. Tiny budget but she always looked sensational, always wore Alexon, Windsmoor etc yes you've guessed - always bought in the Blue X sale. She used to wear a lot of cream or winter white, she said they were the best bargains.

Well I'm about half way though my mega sort out. Will continue tomorrow.

    Wow....love the galaxy hair.

Well I've not gone quite as low as Project 33 but I have been quite radical. At least I can now see what's there more easily so it should get worn.

Went to the optician today and I have to wear glasses again after coming up to six years off post laser eye surgery. But it's not too bad - mainly for night driving and cinema/theatre usage so I won't be wearing much - pre surgery I could barely find my glasses without wearing them I was so short sighted. Couldn't find anything I liked in the local optician so had a look in spec savers in central London and got a couple of pairs on their 2 for 1 offer which cost me about the same as one pair was going to cost in my local optician. So I can leave one pair in the glove box of my car and keep the other in my handbag.

I've had my hair cut and dyed today - nothing as exciting as that Galaxy hair (am probably too old and definitely in too conservative a job to pull that off) - but my back to my usual reddish brown.

Having a quiet night time at home on the sofa tonight - needed a bit of a relaxing one after not sleeping too well this week. Not really sure why - maybe just the shock of being properly back at work.

Was out last night anyway, went with five friends to see Cinderella at the Palladium - it was an absolute hoot. I think most of the jokes must have gone over the heads of the children there - it was as innuendo full as you would expect for a show including both Julian Clary and Paul O'Grady.

Am going for a tour of the globe theatre tomorrow - really must do a play there one summer.

Seeing the nutritionist on Monday so hopefully that will give me the kick start I need. Have started using the food and water logging on my fitbit which is starting to make me think a bit more about what I eat and drink.

Also got a facial to look forward to on Monday - I get on really well with the beautician who does it so it's a nice time to catch up as well as relaxing and my skin looking refreshed for it.

Have a fab weekend all x
  • I nailed the basics today hair brushed first i tried to style it but the hair is so flat as used an old shampoo. it might not be worth keeping if it causes more meh days than fab days.

Foundation, highlighter and eyeshadow, it was very subtle and doable, but to do it is the important thing. This evening I cleansed with trilogy cleanser and micellar water, neostratra pad with glycolic acid and loads of serums gentifique, caudalie premier cru elixer and finished with some moisturizer.
