I agree with another poster about parents dying. My father is celebrating his 90th birthday in a couple of weeks, and my mother will be 86. When something happens to them, heaven forbid, my outlook might change, as I still feel as if I am their 'child', daft as that sounds.

My dad died yesterday. He was 90.

I still have my mum, but I feel old today.

Gloomendoom, I was so sorry about your loss when I read your post just now. It just brings it home how lucky I am but also that we don't know what is around the corner. When I think about something happening to my parents the enormity of it is so overwhelming that I have to immediately put it out of my mind. My sincere condolences to you.

When my husband died unexpectedly nearly four weeks ago. Suddenly everything is daunting rather than exciting.
    . . .I did not speak out

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me..

I'm 50 and don't feel old. When I hit 40 it didn't worry me at all and my colleagues were all surprised.

My mum is 84 and as fit as a fiddle and my family live well in to their 90's. One of my uncles was still playing golf in his 90s.

50 doesn't feel old at all!

  • I'll be 63 this year. Average weight for height, no health issues that I know of, and fairly active on a daily basis. Still working.

I don't particularly 'feel old' but I do feel rather more limited these days. I now find it difficult carrying the Dyson up the stairs, and certain things tend to surprise me by their weight - I'm sure my Xmas tree became heavier in its box over the last 12 months.

Kneeling on hard flooring to clean my kitchen cupboards out, or to clean the shower tray, all that feels more uncomfortable now than it did a few years back. I still do my own decorating, but I might do the ceiling over 2 days now, I tend to take it a bit easier, and allow more time. Packaging is definitely harder to open.

I don't know if these are age-related or fitness-related symptoms, as I have no benchmark of what I am 'supposed' to be able to do. :)

I'm 52 in March-not there yet. I have health problems so my mobility isn't too good but mentally I'm a teenager (sometimes with the attitude!) My 30 year old daughter is not adverse to telling me off for being loud in public and she is always rolling her eyes when I dye my hair a different colour (currently purple).

I'm so sorry, I hope you are both coping okay. I turned 30 two days ago and in the run up I have started to feel old. I have an 8 year old and that makes me feel old, as well as hitting such a big milestone age. It feels like I should be more grown up than I am, I still listen to the same bands that I did when I was 15.

My teeth look ok but are in a terrible state with lots of fillings and they just keep going downhill as I now need a load more work doing to them which I can't afford.
It really upsets me and plays on my mind a lot. It makes me feel much older than I am, plus I have started using anti ageing face creams too as my skin looks dull.

It's funny how when you are young you can't wait to grow up and do whatever you want, but now that I'm there I want it to slow down and not get any older!

I'm 59 and have never felt old.

My daughter is always having a light hearted go at her mad parents who are sooo childish and irresponsible compared to her and her hard working husband.

We worked hard all our lives, raised two children, paid off the mortgage and retired at 55. Now is time for the fun :D

Take today for example, it's a beautiful sunny day here and I shall be going out to play.........on my Triumph Bonneville :D

I shall be meeting up with friends and having a ball.

Tomorrow I shall be at a friends giving him a hand, he's building a replica 1920s special race car. It seems only fair to give him a hand as I shall be the one sharing the driving at various events and rallies once complete :T

Old is a physical fact of life but growing up is definitely optional.

  • Well, I'm 56, post-menopausal, a grandma, and I have a bit of a dodgy hip. But old? Don't be ridonkulous. I'm also a company director and currently on hols in Australia - I don't have time to be old.

On New Year's Eve I danced until 2am at my step-daughter's wedding, today I've driven for 3 hours through the heat of Western Australia, and in two days' time I'll be on a sailing ship where (hopefully) they'll let me have a go at steering and manning the ropes.

I admit I have to try harder these days not to look my age - but that wasn't the question!!
