I've just turned 35 and it is starting to happen already. Just from things like clothes shopping "I'm too old to wear that" - and why is so much cropped or cold shoulder or whatever now. I want proper clothes that cover!

I get aches and pains that I would have expected in my 80's. I think I must have an underlying condition of some sort, it's just not normal, but my GP's are extremely dismissive to the point I'm scared to go incase they have me down as a hypochondriac. (Doesn't help when I chased results for a scan for pressure in my head when I lay on one side, the GP accused me of not going and then saying they only sent me so I didn't think I had a tumour anyway). I can't handle late nights either.

But the number one reason, I have no clue what kids are on about sometimes or how things work! It seems like I've turned into a technophobe overnight!

    47. Which is the age i am now. Suddenly i've found people offering me their seat on trams.

There were a couple of kids - maybe 11 or 12 on the tram the other day and one ran and grabbed the last seat as we all got on. His mate said to him - "get up and let the old man sit down". Lovely sentiment but i could have done without him using the word old!

I've started to embrace it now though - free seat and all that :)

I was walking along a country path when 2 young lads approached on bikes. One shouted to the other "Mind the old man" I looked over my shoulder & nobody was there.
That was 37 years ago and I still don't feel old.

Someone who (thinks) he knows me well, said to me the other day, "Why are you wearing jeans at your age?"

"Because they still fit. Because they are comfortable. Because no one has passed a law against it. And if they did, I would probably be arrested." - Pause for the other's thoughts -

    "But you're older than me!"

"Yes - but do your jeans still fit?"

    The other waddled walked away.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

And yet I still don't feel old. I don't even feel grown up yet.

Scrub that. I've come down with a chest infection; on visiting GP for antibiotics I also got told that I'm hypothyroidic. I feel completely ancient, unable to complete the smallest task without taking a rest. I'm guessing this is what "old" feels like :(

  • I knew I was old when last autumn I found I enjoyed watching Gardeners' World (despite never having been 'into' gardening in my life) - episode where Monty sorted his banana plant for the winter was a corker!
  • I'm 67 and still don't feel old. Yes, I see an oldish man staring back at me in the mirror, but mentally I'm still young.

I disagree with the person who raised this question. If I was around people older than myself I would get sucked in to "old ways". No, I am still working full time and I work alongside people 40 years or so younger than me. I do serious work at a PC and I am treated as an "oracle" (although they do sometime check my knowledge against Google!), confessor and mentor, yet my day is filled with laughter and hilarious banter :rotfl: which not only keeps me feeling young but makes it a pleasure to go to work every day .
  • Same here. I'm a twenty-five year old stuck in the body of a 60 year old. With the added advantage that I have acquired a lot more wisdom than I had when I was actually 25. Most of the time, I don't think about it. Provided you are still fit and able to do what you want to do, go for it.

Mind you, I do remember when I was first told I was too old, when I was applying for a job. I was 38 at the time.....
