I hope there's not a continuous nine hour shift! You must have been exhausted.

Given that you have had some health issues and already work full-time I would seriously consider if you really need to continue working at Job 2. That seems like a very unfair decision to make about the tips and sounds like they don't value their workers very much. I would be reluctant to continue working for them under these circumstances. At least you are not dependent on them for your main income, it must be hard if that is your only income and all of a sudden it has been decreased by a greedy management.3

Sorry about the tip situation - that is so wrong.

I remember when you first started job2 and me commenting on what a good idea because you received tips too. It stuck in my mind because my daughter was at sixth form with a girl whose Dad was an accountant and he encouraged her to look for a job where she received tips pointing out that as she was a teen, then shed just get low paid work, having tips on top would make a difference.
Since this has now gone and the place also doesnt adhere to the maximum time working before a break, I agree with the others, its time to rethink.
Totally accept you need an additional income for now. It doesnt need to be this one. They seem to have deteriorated in working conditions since you started there. Have they changed ownership/management? Start looking for something else.
You're doing really well, continuing onwards and upwards.3 -
Congratulations HSL! So happy for you!
Agree with the others though - you should be keeping the tips, even if they are initially collected and then split between everyone.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

That doesn’t sound right that they take the tips from you 😠 So what are they doing with them I wonder. That’s a great amount to have paid off your mortgage, well done! Here’s to a wonderful 2025 for you 🥂I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)3

Thank you Sashybo, Cherryfudge, Moneywhizz, dawnybabes, Themadvix, Spendless SH & SA.
Thank you for the links on the position on tips. It is weird…the kitchen staff are allowed to share and keep anything but FOH are not. We did get some tips from the boss as a thank you for nights when we were run off our feet but new management have said we can’t keep these. It’s very weird.
Moneywhizz - you are right. I am trying to be very mindful of what I can physically do and cope with…I’m hoping that more on the gardening front would be better, especially if it’s plant sales as I can go at my own pace.
Spendless- you are right, new management although not new owners.
I did work NYE but we had 3 working and it was a lot less busy than last year. Last year we had 2 working and it was relentless all night. This year, I had a break after 5 hours and then finished shortly after midnight. A much better shift than last year.
Yesterday I had a cosy day reading one of my favourite authors. I was unashamedly lazy but as it was too wet to really go out, I basked in the time to read!
Today has been more productive. DD3 and DS3 and I went to my favourite beach and climbed the huge hill that frames one side of the beach. The view from the top was stunning giving us a view of the river, estuary and open sea as we looked around. A wonderful start to the day. I’ve returned home and got started on work for Job 1 before my next shift starts at Job 2. The garden is calling though, so might have to do a little weeding too in a minute!!

Gorgeous view! What a great start to the year, and I'm glad you weren't pushed so hard on the final shift of last year.
I wonder if the owners are aware of the changes the new management have put in place? I'd imagine they don't know, because wouldn't they be ultimately responsible for illegal practices?
