Lovely view and as CF says a very cute flask. I get tips from the b&b but get taxed on them.

    I love the flask too.

How do they differentiate between FOH tips and kitchen tips ?

Love the view and the flask!

I'm guessing that tips regardless of 'who' they are given to are only shared with the waiting staff. If I've read this correctly the workplace should be including FOH

    Scope of workers

The code of practice makes clear that all workers involved in directly providing service to customers should be considered in the distribution of tips. The application of this principle varies depending on the specific circumstances of the industry and employer, and the employer must determine which jobs should be included, and justify this in their policy.

But the management aren't acting correctly (or legally!) about giving a break either after 6 hours work.

Advice given to me by our FA when I was working at one of my prev employers that 'a company who isn't generous about x is unlikely to be generous about y'  she turned out to be spot on, I think the same is happening here. They aren't adhering to rules about one thing, so won't with others. It's so hard though when you know this but are dependant on the income and feel unable to fetch the subject up. I do hope HSL that 2025 fetches you something better to replace job2

Thank you Sashybo,  Cherryfudge, Moneywhizz, dawnybabes, Themadvix, Spendless SH & SA.

Thank you for the links on the position on tips. It is weird…the kitchen staff are allowed to share and keep anything but FOH are not. We did get some tips from the boss as a thank you for nights when we were run off our feet but new management have said we can’t keep these. It’s very weird.

Moneywhizz - you are right. I am trying to be very mindful of what I can physically do and cope with…I’m hoping that more on the gardening front would be better, especially if it’s plant sales as I can go at my own pace.

Spendless- you are right, new management although not new owners.

I did work NYE but we had 3 working and it was a lot less busy than last year. Last year we had 2 working and it was  relentless all night. This year, I had a break after 5 hours and then finished shortly after midnight. A much better shift than last year.

Yesterday I had a cosy day reading one of my favourite authors. I was unashamedly lazy but as it was too wet to really go out, I basked in the time to read!

Today has been more productive. DD3 and DS3 and I went to my favourite beach and climbed the huge hill that frames one side of the beach. The view from the top was stunning giving us a view of the river, estuary and open sea as we looked around. A wonderful start to the day. I’ve returned home and got started on work for Job 1 before my next shift starts at Job 2. The garden is calling though, so might have to do a little weeding too in a minute!!
Just picked up on this. Who is the 'boss'? Is it the owner or the overall manager? Either way does the boss know that you've been told you can't keep the tips given to you? If not can boss be informed even if on an 'accidentally on purpose way', thanks for saying we could have those tips, I hadn't realised we weren't allowed to keep them though.

Thank you Dawnybabes, Lucielle, SH, Willowtree222 and Spendless.

The article was really interesting, thank you Spendless. I had no idea there are rules about tips.
Dawnybabes - the way it works is that people who pay for meals and leave a tip gets taken to the kitchen and shared between waitressing and kitchen staff. FOH just get tips from the boss which is usually in very busy nights. The envelope savings I could build up were via  tips I could save.  It’s quite a complex situation where my boss is the owner but members of his family are in managerial positions. I am not sure about how secure employment is with Job 2 from the perspective of the age / health of the boss so am taking it week by week at the moment.

That's an awkward one when it's a family owned/ran business raising an issue. Think you're wise to be taking it week by week and keep a look out for something else too.

A very weird start to the working year!! Had to work online for 2 days and then in but in a different part so lots to get used to.

Moneywise, £100 was paid off a debt on Wednesday so still plodding downwards which is good.

Today has been relaxing. DS3 had a party to go to which gave me an hour and a half to escape to the allotment which is sorely in need of being sorted out. I had a productive hour trimming back some over grown hazel branches and clearing some bracken and brambles. I was able to clear one bed. As soon as one area is cleared it gives hope for the rest of the allotment!! I need to replace one pane of glass in the greenhouse but it’s not of standard sizing so will need to measure it in the week. Being outside even for that hour was relaxing and peaceful!

Only spending today was to pay for cinema tickets for SO, DS3 and SO’s children and I to watch a film.
