Belated happy birthday! The meal sounds lovely.
I found the 'flying the nest' stages strange, too, and there's a feeling of finality when they are actually buying somewhere, but on the other hand, it's a second family base. We went to DS's home for Christmas one year to allow someone with limited mobility to take part (our house has steps), and last year we all gathered there together with DiL's parents and DH's auntie. The way things worked out, two of ours then came back to us for an impromptu feast on Christmas dinner leftovers as DD's plans fell through and DS2 was working shifts. So we weren't obsolete.
I expect the other children have very definite ideas on who will get which room!

Happy belated birthday. Lovely that you were able to have most of the family and extended/blended family with you.
I hope it is made clear to ex what his penalty will be for non-compliance.
Lovely that DD1 is getting her own place. My eldest never came home after Uni. got engaged whilst there, moved briefly in with gf's parents when he finished before moving back to where we live with a job and place to live. Think I struggled with that a bit as never coming back wasn't something I forsaw when I'd waved him off to Uni at 18.2 -
How annoying your ex is still being awkward 🤬 Like you say it’s his final bit of control over you.Happy belated birthday from me too.I’m still waiting for DD to fly the nest, she’s 36 🤣I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)4

Thank you Cherryfudge, Lucielle, SA, SH and Spendless.
I began the week with an email to the solicitors. I had been told last Wednesday that my case had been passed back to family law team ( from the conveyancing team) but I still hadn’t heard anything and I’ve very conscious of time ticking by towards the deadline. I got a response by lunchtime advising a court application which I have agreed to. The court application alone has a fee which I will have to empty savings to meet. Just hoping it will go through quickly.paydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 . Mortgage start £148k June 23 - now £138k.

Your ex makes it hard, doesn't he? I hope you get some progress soon. Can any of these costs be claimed back from him?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Thank you Cherryfudge. The solicitor has said that I can ask the court to get him to pay the costs ( can’t think of the exact phrase) but actually enforcing any such cost award based on the fact he didn’t pay the last lot of costs that he was ordered to, could mean I end up having to spend even more money to enforce it.
Its been a beautiful Spring afternoon here so was glad to be outside forJob 1. DD1 moved to her new home today. It didn’t look like she’d taken anything, when I got home from work, so am assuming she’ll be back at the weekend to collect it!paydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 . Mortgage start £148k June 23 - now £138k.

It must be really frustrating that the ex is playing silly mind games to the bitter end and worrying from a financial cost aspect. Short term pain long term gain here though. You're looking towards the final hurdles. Hopefully the courts will apply pressure to the ex swiftly. If DD1 doesn't collect her belongings at the weekend, I suspect she swiftly will once she knows that a younger sibling will be moving into her former room and rifling through her stuff!3

Happy birthday and well done for sorting a court date asap for the Ex. You're right. It's his last tiny bit of control. Well, he thinks so anyway. He'll soon realise that actually he has no control at all, especially once the judge raps his hand for acting like an idiot... I'm happy to hear you have a nice person in your life now.
