Thank you SH, Cherryfudge, Spendless, Parkyp & Kittykattykate.
Today is nothing like I’d expected it to be, but has been a lovely day nonetheless. I woke at usual work getting up time, fully intent on getting up and getting cracking but made a cup of tea and got back into bed...next thing I knew it was 10am 😳😱😳. I’m used to my teenagers sleeping that long but not me!
The cupboard clearing continued. It’s a tall built in cupboard which also had the ex’s old TV that no longer works. It is about 20 years old and ridiculously heavy but DD2 and 3 were 9n hand to help me get it into the car, a brief stop at the ex’s to ascertain whether he wanted it or not and then onto the tip to get rid of it. The space created is enough to store the boxes of things that I’d had to hastily remove from the dresser that got removed during the furniture raid. We’ve been walking around the boxes for the last week, but now these are stored in the cupboard, which makes everything feel more homely and settled.
DD1 decided that it would be best to do a communal gift of furniture this Christmas. Today she sourced on FB and her boyfriend went to collect it and now we have a sofa in the living room. It looks much more like a family living room - such a kind and thoughtful idea.
Between the ex’s stuff going from the cupboard and the new to us furniture, I feel much more optimistic about making the house more our home, which sounds odd when we’ve lived here for many years but perhaps it’s more ready for a new chapter.paydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 . What a great idea! And the new sofa isn't going to have links with the past.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Thank you Lucielle, SH, Cherryfudge, Cranky40, Janb5 and Buffy.
DD1 is a gem. She and DD3 have been so great at encouraging me since the furniture raid, to seize the opportunity to make it our home rather than a time warp of the past.
Janb5 - I have been so desperate to get rid of this TV for ages. It was such a relief to see it go! You are right though, the rubbish outside, I won’t be carting to the tip. That said I will need a plan on what to do with the stuff if it remains here past January.
I did spend some of Boxing Day checking the MSE credit club report. The figures are slowly coming down but I need to get the remaining debts down and gone. The positives are that since starting this diary I’ve cleared the last £2k of a loan and got rid of the first window loan. The overdraft has gone and the legal costs have been funded without going into further debt. The credit club report also shows that I’ve paid off £500 off the mortgage capital. I know that’s just @ small drop in a big ocean and I haven’t made anymore since the advice a few pages back. The mountains still to go are
Debt 1 - £866
Debt2 - £881
Debt 3 - £2,900
To my surprise the credit club report carries utility bill totals as well. That was reading a credit of £245 which is slightly mystifying as to why the energy company have changed the direct debit twice ( upwards) in the last three months 🤷♀️.
Those 2 debts around the £850 mark seem tantalisingly close to being able to bring down. Perhaps if I focus on using Job 2’s money to make additional payments for the next few weeks, I can get them down.

While you’re sorting legalities with the lawyer could you get something put in writing about ex removing his items from garden.
You’re debts are going down 👏👏 maybe not as fast as you like but lawyers bills are expensive, when that part of your life is settled you’ll have extra cash to use.I see you’re not having your long lie today, that must have been a shock when you woke up, you obviously needed it. Take care.5 -
