Christmas decs all away, just got to take bits that get stored in garage out there. Dark now, might wait until tomorrow. As suspected, cull of Christmas decs last year did mean not much to declutter, still a refillable felt advent calendar, a little Christmas basket, a Christmas DVD and a Christmas picture that lights up are out. I know I won't use them again. And some sparkly butterfly hair clips that DD wouldn't dream of wearing nowadays!

Well, that was awkward. I set up the thread, but forgot to follow it!
So I've just had a ten minute catch up with you guys. Well done all for getting started.
I've had a sort through a couple of kitchen cupboards and got rid of some things there, as well as taking the opportunity when putting the decs away to persuade hubby to go through his bags of cables that he keeps up there. As a result, we've gotten rid of loads of bits!

I have absolutely no shame in counting those cables individually, as not counting my pens and pencils individually last year left me with a really low score! :rotfl:

Today I took on the 'bits 'n' bobs' drawer, which has now been reduced considerably. Really wonder why I keep some of this stuff! Blank CD's, key-rings, old manuals, a right mix of things now removed.
I've also had a look through my books. I've got 8 to certainly go, and 30-ish I'm undecided on so have set these aside in a box. It's probably the wrong way to go about doing this though! Some of these I might read and then get rid of. I live in a fairly small place and the books really do take up a lot of space.
This has now taken me up to 72 items so far.
Somehow this sorting ended up with me watching 'minimalist' videos on youtube. Amongst all the pretty faces blogging, there are some useful tips, and some lovely looking homes. I'm not aiming for a minimalist lifestyle at all, just a less cluttered one, but some of the places on there really did look good!
I've also got a few kitchen knives to get rid of. My local recycling centre doesn't accept them though. Any suggestions as to what to do with them other than wrap them carefully/box them and put them in with the normal rubbish?0 -
Hi, I'm going to rejoin as my house is starting to get very cluttered again, I didn't have much time last year as my DH was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in July, and I've had no motivation to do anything since. I know DH would not be happy if I let the house go back to how it was before I originally started decluttering, as he loved the new me who was willing to get rid of stuff instead of hoarding and we both loved the extra room, so new year new start.
Downstairs isn't too bad, as I like to keep my 'public' areas reasonably tidy in case of visitors, it's mainly the spare bedroom, which looks like a bomb has hit it, ditto the 'cupboard of doom', so I will try to get something done tomorrow. I do have a box and a few bags of stuff that need to go to the CS, it's just a case of actually taking it, so that is adding to the clutter in the spare room at the moment.
After two and a half years I finally shredded my late dad's paperwork over the weekend, which is now all in the recycling box, also shredded a pile of old credit/debit cards.Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs
