We get broadband and a weekly bus service next month! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Sounds idyllic Gemma! Even hear in Gloucestershire we have 2 buses a day.
I just posted up a guitar on a Facebook selling site - so I'll see how it goes fro me. And just sold a camera on Ebay.
Here's my update on decluttering - been a bit slow this week but hopefully I'll pick up the pace a bit next week.

    399 - 3 Books CS
    400 - Basket - on the fire
    401 - Beach towel CS
    401 - Small tin CS
    404 - 3 Dead house plants – compost
    414 -10 pieces of jewellery
    415 – Yellow vase CS
    416 – Camera Ebay
I'm also trying to declutter a rat from the front garden. No success so far.

  • Grrr it's happened again...

A lady said she will be here at 3 to buy something.

It is now quarter past 6. Not even a message from her saying she's changed her mind or whatnot...

I've sold pretty much all of the expensive things now anyway, the rest is just clothes from Primark I picked up off the sale rail myself so I may just chuck it all in the charity shop bag now.

That's shocking Gemma - so frustrating for you. I can't believe people do that. I always give freegle people a 1 hour slot but when you're selling it's a bit more complex.
I went to buy a phone a few weeks ago and wondered why the woman kept emailing me asking if I was serious about the sale and checking I wasn't a time waster. I said I would be at 10 sharp. When I got there she was still in bed asleep. People!!
  • Oh wow Fruittea - really?!

Really makes you lose faith in humanity doesn't it?

I mean, yeah I understand they don't have to buy it if they don't want to, and that everyone leads busy lives, but that's exactly it - I am also a busy person. I had to wait in at that time today as that lady said she would come to my house to collect and then she never turned up

I'm not even going to bother messaging her to ask if she's still interested, I'm already holding something else for someone else that I've known since school and I know her current circumstances.

After that, I'm upping the ante big time on anything that I sell. I have already changed the details of the post to "collection only". I'm not running round after people if they're not going to be serious.

Funnily enough the woman collecting the toy messaged and said she'd been 'too busy' to come on Thurs, could she come today. I said yes, just because I wanted rid of it (and I wanted the money tbh!) and guess what? Yup, she didn't turn up yet again. Looks like the toy is destined for the charity shop.

I've a mirror, a large piece of wood, very long pelmet and a large work surface which all need to go that were here when I moved in 7 years ago. With no transport I have no idea how that will happen but I need to find a way. They are cluttering up a cupboard that my step ladders, hoover and one box of odds and sods are in, as well as it being the meter cupboard.

Have you tried Freecycle/freegle? Mirrors usually go well as they are so expensive. And people are always looking for what we think might be junk. Good luck.

    Hi suzeesu2000

    Thanks for the support.

I've had some success. My son in law was able to break down the plastic pelmet and put it in the bin. He has also taken the large piece of wood and a cd/video player which I think stopped working in sympathy with the demise of my old television!

All I have now is the mirror and the work surface. The mirror is just a large sheet of mirrored glass which would be dangerous if just stood leaning against a wall. But someone may have a use for it.

suzeesu2000 - Someone on Freegle wanted a mirror, any type - bedroom, bathroom,

I messaged to say I had the mirrored glass (24" by 48") but he was willing to have it if he wanted. He did. Had just moved into a rented property where there were no mirrors. He collected it that evening and was so pleased with it and commented that there was nothing wrong with it, no scratches or anything.

I was so pleased that it is being used after 7 years in a cupboard!

Just the worktop to go now. Plus a dead printer - the ink is no longer being sold at Curry's and those online are up to £99 for the black alone!

  • Hello All.
Sorted DD's wardrobe last weekend including quite a lot of dust behind it! Half a bin bag of bits and bobs ready for CS including a couple of lovely party dresses, I've kept a diddy one as a memento, others may as well be enjoyed by another little girl or girls. Excess hangers all gone. There is space on top shelf for some photo storage until they can be found a more permanent home. Currently still all on my bedroom floor after pulling them out from various places. I really ought to start sorting today, but going to have bath first I think. It's been grey, damp and cold here all weekend, although daffodils are peeking through in the garden :T.

    Hi all!

May I join your lovely thread? I've set a major goal for myself this year to declutter once and for all so it will be great to be with others doing the same!

My husband and I are planning to buy our first home this year and I really don't want to end up taking anything unneeded with us. I dream of owning a beautiful home where everything has its place and where I don't have to get into a 'hiding frenzy' whenever anyone visits.

Unfortunately my decluttering is slowed down by four things:
    1. In addition to our flat, I still have MASSIVE amounts of things at my parents' house. I'm embarrassed to admit that the majority of my parents' loft and study is full with my things as well as lots in my old bedroom. If you opened my old wardrobe up you'd think I still lived there! In fairness, we do live in a tiny one bed flat with no storage so some of my things would move with me to our house, however there is still far too much there that I'm sure will never be used as intended.

    2. Deciding what to prioritise! Because I need to declutter my flat and at my parents, it's hard to know where to start. If I start at my flat then I'll hopefully feel better about my living space and really feel the benefit which will motivate me to continue. BUT, I feel so guilty knowing all my stuff is still at my parents. They don't mind storing things for me because they have the space but I know they'd still like a lot to go.

    4. Time! I work so hard and I rarely leave the office on time. By the time I'm home and have had dinner it's usually 9.30ish. At the weekends I tend to have a burst of energy first thing and then I'm just exhausted the rest of the time. The few times I've gone to my parents with the aim of sorting through my things, I've ended up just nattering with my Mum all day!

    4. This is the big one! I really struggle to let go of things. I feel emotionally attached to my belongings especially those from childhood or those given to me by a family member. I'm definitely making progress with the things I'm not so attached to but the majority of things at my parents, for example, are the hard ones to do.

I've really enjoyed reading the Kon Mari book and I've been using the 'does this spark joy?' approach well. Unfortunately I can't stick to the categories religiously as I have so much clutter that I don't often know where all of a category is to be able to pull it out together.

Sorry for the long intro! Look forward to chatting with you all and getting some tips!
