Carbootcrazy tell OH to go take a running jump into the nearest water feature.
anybody from.the govt would leave literature contact details etc.
this would have been one of those guys touting for work. they would apply for the grant on your behalf. pocket the money and charge you extra on top for unnecessary work.
you can google local legitimate businesses who can come and do a free survey of your home and tell you if you can have single cavity filling. and anything else that may benefit and if you would be eligible for help.
I had a really lovely local guy come here 8 years ago and he told me we had single walls not cavity wall. he said the govt is looking into single wall cavity filling but will be a few years yet.
worth googling foe legitimate companies and getting one out who does free quotations.
do.you get pension credit and if.not have you checked if you qualify?
are you on tps telephone preference service? they get rid of most of these callers. nit all but most.0 -

All I've bought this week is bananas and tinned soup for lunch at work. It's difficult to find food that will last several hours without a fridge that are tasty. It's even harder on days I don't get back to the office to use the microwave and have to eat in the car. I'm really not a fan of sandwiches (and especially not ones that have been sitting out for ages).
Still haven't put anything on ebay and I know that's where I'll make most of my money.
do you have a cool bag? I got a few free from twitter and the freebie sites. I have a fridge and microwave at work but if you aren't able to get back to.the office a cool bag might be useful.

Sadly, this month has started off as profitably as the last one ended..... rubbish:eek:. I am trying, honest;)
I was excited to see a piece on the TV news last night about the resurgence of interest in old vinyl records. They showed a couple of the original Beatles LPs which were going for £250 and about £900 respectively. I have both of these, in fact I have all the Beatles LPs on vinyl. They were passed on to me by a relative donkey's years ago when they lost interest in them. They look in pristine condition (the White Album has definitely never even been played) although I don't have a turntable these days to try them out on:(. The relative has died so there will be no come-back of wanting the money if I do sell them. Am going to research the potential values and where it might be best to sell them for maximum return. I'm really excited at the prospect of actually having something saleable for a decent price:j. Mustn't fall into my usual trap of getting too carried away though:o.
I worked with a guy that used to buy and sell a lot of vinyl and he used to use a site called discogs. It might give you some idea of prices even if you don't decide to sell there.Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

carbootcrazy wrote: »Just come on here to let off steam really. Sorry, I know that's not what you're here for but I just feel very unsettled and wondered if anyone knows anything about a Government 'free' cavity wall house insulation scheme. Martin has quite a lot on it but I'm still none the wiser after reading it just now. According to the individual energy suppliers websites that he links to we don't fulfil the criteria.
I was in the house on my own, all lights off as I was dozing in the recliner after a terrible night (not feeling too well and with raging neuralgia to boot). OH was out and it was almost dusk when I heard this loud banging on the door. I woke with a start and a bit disorientated opened the door a crack (not wanting to let the precious warm air escape). The man (with a clipboard) said 'I'm from the Government' (no mention of what department or anything) and waggled some sort of 'badge' that he had on a cord round his neck. I didn't want to invite him in and it was too dark to see much. I'm a bit suspicious and felt his intro of 'I'm from the Government' was a bit intimidating somehow.
He said we qualified for free insulation, a new offer from the Government. I get phone calls about this 'scheme' several times a day, usually a recorded message that asks us to press a number to speak to an advisor, although I never do. I did once actually speak to one of the callers (who promised to take us off their database but never has) who told me that we are not eligible because we are not on any benefits even though we are on pensions. Also, we don't have cavity walls, this old house is single wall thickness so there's no cavity to fill anyway. We've already got the max loft insulation.
I assume this is the same 'offer' as the phone ones but I couldn't be bothered to talk to the guy and said we're not interested. I felt very vulnerable actually, couldn't wait to shut the door:o
OH has since come home and has gone ballistic because it might have been a genuine offer that I refused:eek:. He's still ranting now, doing his Mr Angry act.
Sorry, I just feel really fed up
It doesn't sound like you would qualify anyway, but if you want to double-check then have a look on

If you don't want a hot meal and like salads, you can buy one of those lunch-boxes with compartments. Then you could take different ingredients to have a variety each day and some fruit in another box. A cool bag (as above) will keep all fresh and you can take some nice bread/pasta/couscous to up the carbs.
There are some great cool bags and lunch-boxes on the amazing site, which are not that expensive
