More progress here. I have ordered DS1 a new watch as the pin on his has fallen off - yet he still wears it?! Niece has some la Roche posay skincare coming - very very sensitive skin, and I know this will be appreciated. Got DD some nyx make up.
The decorating is going well. Two coats of gloss on skirting, architrave, door and picture rail this week. We are having wallpaper in the alcoves which will be done last. Walls painted tonight and looking good.
We started on one of the gingerbread candles from HB and DH came up to bed last and left it burning. Not sure if I'm more annoyed at the risk to life or the loss of half a candle in one night.....

Nic- yay! You can say Christmas has definitely started now you have your tree up! Im joining you (although not with the big tree) cus the kids bought me a real mini tree (about 3ft inc pot), ready dressed and lit. I've added some felt robins to it and I LOVE it!

Peppa- Im another one who loves the smell of leather, I can just imagine you going round JL sniffing all the bags to get a 'fix'! Hope the patch isn't needed for too long x.

GTQ- any movement on the settees or are you still 'full up' of furniture?

Jakes mum- pinch the scissors I say! She doesn't know about them so it wont hurt x.

Stokie-yay!! I cant believe its so close! You have reminded me to download a Christmas countdown on my phone.

Coxy- sounds as if the decorating is going well. My DS has massively sensitive skin and he swears by La Roche Posay. OMG I would have a fit at him leaving a candle on- those candles are in short supply!! I would have inserted a winking face here but for some reason again I cant get emoticons on this forum).

All wrapping is done, If anyone is looking for a stocking filler gift for a man that wears ties (or just like to look dapper- OMG how old does that make me sound?!) then have a look at 'memysuitandtie' - its a subscription service that supplies a new tie and coordinating accessories each month (socks, pocket square etc). I ordered one (then cancelled the subscription) for £15 and it has a stag theme to it. I had a tie, socks, a scarf (sooo soft!) a pocket square, snowflake cufflinks and a candy cane. DS has had them in the past and they are really good quality. Its £30 but if you google there are codes out there for 50% off. ( I did have a code but its in the tin it came in yesterday and I've wrapped it! The subscription can be cancelled at any time).

Gave my sis her advent sack on Friday and going to give Mom hers today so that will free up a bit of space in my wardrobe. Im debating getting my tree down tomorrow so then I can put the kids and DHs advent sacks under the tree to free up even more space. problem is- can I trust DS not to snoop all the gifts as he has 'history'- he is 27!!!!

Hope everyone is well and happy xx

    Morning all

Retail on black friday is no fun. I have worked my contract hours for the month in a week....I have today off and then am back at it from Monday - Friday.....bring on the Xmas pay cheque though!

Had some good news on Friday - I have managed to win £100 of B&M vouchers so I have decided to split them with my mother in law as a thank you for watching the kids over the festive season so I will be using them to get a few stocking fillers for Ben, aftershave for Owen and Im still left with about £30 of mine to spend  Im thinking the Christmas cupboard of goodies can get under way or MIL suggested the kids Xmas Eve box.

Also found a good online guide for the elf to do and have written my own one up as well so i am going to use ideas from both of them :-)

Managed to wrap my Sisters, Sister in laws and Cousins presents the other day. As well as the two ornament exchanges so they can be sent on Tuesday too.

Peppa - hope your eye is feeling better and your bag smells :rotfl:
Nic - hot chocolate sounds lovely
Jakes - mum -- I do that its called indefinitely borrowing them :rotfl:
Coxy - those gingerbread candles are nice - I have a small one burning but :eek::eek: to both none the less!
GTQ - I lost my notebook yesterday too - it has everything in it - lists, whats been brought, ideas for people, posting dates, addresses, card list, cleaning list, food lists, things to do, elf ideas etc and I couldnt find it yesterday - I was having heart palpitations. I have been surgically attached to it since September. Its bright pink and it took me nearly 40 minutes to find but it is safely beside me now! :T hope you have found yours.
Murie - looking forward to my christmas swap message :D
Stokie - my bank account will be the same on Tuesday - I have £104 of bills to come out and a small food shop and whatever is left is mine. Must remember to take into account travel for the next month though.

Right today will mostly be relaxing, catching up on the rugby I missed yesterday, maybe a christmas film and sorting the house.......fun. Husband has been called over to Swindon as well so have an extra hour and a half on his work finish time so will chuck something in the slow cooker for tea

    Have a good day all

    x

The eye is feeling much better today so may dispense with the patch, don't want it to get lazy. It's now looking very hopeful for my trip to JL tomorrow for some serious bag sniffing. I've found another one I like online so I'm hoping they'll have that so I can check it out.:D

DD2 and DGD are coming today as it's my mum's birthday on Tuesday so we're going to have tea and cake this afternoon. Will be repeating it on Tuesday when me and my sis take her out then again on Wednesday when it's DGS's 4th birthday. It's going to be a fat week lol. I need to plant my newly arrived blueberry plants in their tubs this morning so will try waking DH up in a mo.

JAKESMUM don't give up on the cubes, things can take ages to arrive from China and there's still a few weeks. Hope you can source a replacement at a good price if you need to.

COXY well done on the decorating. I'd be exactly the same with the candle lol. I'll look into that La Roche Posay as my sis has really sensitive skin. Handy for me as I get her cast offs when she buys stuff and it affects her skin but would be nice to find something she can use without worrying.

MURIE DD2 is the same, I can't even let her know when I've got her pressie in the house and she's 33!

SAMMYKAYE I don't think I'd find working in retail fun at any time, I have no patience at all with stupid or rude people so I've had to accept customer service just isn't my calling. Well done on the B&M vouchers, a lovely surprise. Sounds like you and your mil have a lovely relationship.

Well, have a fabulous day everyone whatever you end up doing. I love all the chatter on here now and reading about what you're all up to, it's so festive.

Thanks Peppa - Im very lucky. Shes a gem and we get along really well! :j:j:j:T:T:T Retail is testing but with the added stress of Christmas coming it is proving to be very trying.....

Glad your eye is feeling better and hope you enjoy your tea and cake day :-) and hope they dont think your slightly crazy sniffing all the bags in JL :-) although I expect they are probably use to that in there!

Oh VULPIX that's so annoying. When I used the laptop I used to do the same as PRINCESSKITTY and type it all in word and then copy and paste it but I can't do that on the iPad so if I'm doing a longish post now I copy it regularly so if it disappears I can just paste it back. Could be worth a try.

Thanks SAMMY - as long as they don't throw me out of the shop I'll be happy.

I agree Sammy about Christmas in retail. I have done about ten hours extra a week for a few weeks now. I don't mind for a few weeks as pay helps and then in January it will no doubt be back to normal hours as there will be no overtime available.

Off tomorrow and Tuesday so plan to getting the last of the little stocking fillers for other half and double checking everyone has been purchased for...I sometimes get to mid December and realise I've missed someone :rotfl:

I don't really have a colour scheme. Nothing I have matches, I just get the kids to chuck it all on. It's a mix of handmade decs by the kids, old decs ive had for years, some nice glass ones my mum gave me, and ones ive picked up over the last couple of years. I love individual baubles that have caught my eye or have a special meaning to me. The only thing that matches is the white/silver Tinsel I have on it that is also on my pictures in the living room etc.
My tree is a bit tacky, but it makes me feel good every year to see it all there. As we unwrap each bauble we usually have a wee chat about where we got it fom, or who gave us it, or when they made it etc.

sounds exactly like my tree
  • Panic abated! Still can't find note book, but have gone through all I had wrapped, wrapped everything else & have 1 to buy, well, other than my mum, no idea what to get her.

I have done all my Christmas cards, except for whoever draws the short straw here :D. Have half the families sorted, so will finish them at weekend. Only got to deal with the cakes now, only going to wrap with red ribbon, which turned up today having had to buy another roll, so will do them Mon-Wed, 8 a night will be fine. Should then be pretty much done by weekend.

One of the advantages of trying to deal with things today meant I found a load of stuff which I can use for the charity table top sale next weekend, so some decluttering done at same time.

Still got 4 sofas in living room, my brother pointed out that it will actually be easier to shift them via the French doors, so have left them there for the time being. Current bids exceed minimum, with 8 people watching, so hopefully will end up close to what I would like. Had a look to see what is similar, mine are bargain!
A smile costs little but creates much :)
