I did 18,000 a day for a while but it just took too much time out of my day. I work 55 hours a week with a 75-90 minute commute and as I live alone all the house stuff falls to me. I found myself walking round late at night trying to achieve 18k and thought, this is getting out of hand!:o0 -
2017 totals so far: 102,798 steps 213 floors 81.17 km 27,164 calories0

The commute is the killer in your case. Any opportunity to get off a stop or two earlier and walk? How about using the stairs at work? I work on the 5th floor and go up and down the stairs at least twice a day.
My circumstances are such that I get a lot of time for walking. In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0 -

I did 18,000 steps yesterday which is a lot for me in a day. However most of those was from a 10 mile run.
Sunday I only managed 13,000 and that included a 7 mile cross country race!!
I do normally average around 30-40 miles a week running.
By contrast I managed 2,400 on Friday as that is my rest day from running. Just goes to show how many steps I do in a normal work day.

I've been doing that commute for 26 years in Feb - yes I once looked to see how many life hours I used up....I won't be refreshing my memory:eek:.
That's a drive in, would take me an 90 minutes each way on public transport, besides the four dogs come into work with me. I do come in at 6.15 ish in the morning to get a walk with them before the day starts.
No stairs either, as it's a small building with just one office, only two of us work in the building. Everyone else works away.
And my pedometer died yesterday.Just about to order a fitbit and get into the 21st century. In the meantime, the weekday walks, I know my steps and mileage, so I will estimate them, but on the conservative side.
Edit: Just ordered the fitbit zip as it's similar to a pedometer, didn't want to wear a watch style fitbit. Should arrive tomorrow, so that'll be today will be a complete guess and yesterday and tomorrow with part of the days steps recorded.0 -

Awww poor bugs. That's what happens when you make your poor pedometer work so hard :rotfl:“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -

I dont work, which helps with my step count.
I do have a huge dog that needs lots of walking, thats why my step count can reach 20 000 steps most days.
I am looking forward to the lighter nights and summer, as I do get out even more and then I will rack up the miles.0 -
Oooo not working - soooo jealous! ( presuming it's a choice!)
What dog do you have? I've a 16 year old bitzer, (very much on her last legs), 9 year old mini Schnauzer, 6 year old Klein Spitz and a bonkers 6 month old Giant Schnauzer, who as you will know, can only do 30 minute walks at the moment.
Fitbit didn't arrive yesterday:( Must have checked my steps about 20 times today...only to find no pedometer in my pocket:o0 -

The fitbit must be hiding somewhere so that you don't wear it out like you did the pedometer :rotfl:“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0
