  • I was very good today and got off a couple of stops early and walked 30 mins into work and then walked back to the same station after work. 32.5km so far (for those working in imperial that's 20.2 miles or 1616 chains per cubic pound I think).

The sad thing is that I did a 10 mile walk and about 22,000 steps in total yesterday. But as it was a hike and is catagorised as such in Garmin / strava then when I do my quick summaries later on in the year it won't count to my total for the year. So still sat at 15 miles only so far, although I do have a gentle 10k jog to do tonight and 8 miles on Wed so that should bring the totals up a bit.

I have a FitBit, which I got around May 2016. I aim for 5 miles daily, which is around 11,000 steps.

I was thinking about aiming for 5,000,000 steps in 2017 - which is almost 14,000 steps a day - could be doable..... maybe though 4,000,000 is more realistic aim to start of with!!

I've found that small adaptations to your daily routine can really have a very positive effect. They're relatively straightforward to do, and you won't arrive at work like you just ran a marathon.

My current fitbit goal is 12,500 daily steps. For me, this works out at nearly exactly 9km, which is is just above the required distance required per day to reach 2017 miles (3246 km).

We have showers and a couple of ironing boards with irons at work in a changing room. It's even got Sky on the TV. I can walk in wearing civvies and then shower and iron a shirt when I get in rather than showing at home. It also means that I catch a quieter train so I am guaranteed a seat in the morning which is nice!

As of yesterday 4 Jan 2017 I have walked 46.56 km against a target of 35.6 km, putting me just under 11 km ahead of schedule.
