Morning all. Not been to shops since Xmas Eve. Did have to spend £10 yesterday, daughter took me to lunch & hospital - parking 4.70p so I gave tenner (she protested but I insisted) towards eyc. Wanted to call in at sm on way home but resisted, got last loaf out of freezer (got makings for more anyway) some pastry from freezer + 4 ready cooked sausages and last 2 slices bacon so made some rolls and turnovers this a.m., will mostly go into freezer after cooking, still 2 little tubs milk in freezer + longlife and dried. Only thing I will sort of need is oats, can manage fro about a week tho and plenty of toast, need eggs. Am going to Asda on Monday to return items and spend money off vouchers. Really tryong to use up not replace freezer foods. Must update spreadsheet now with the £10.0

elsiepac- loving your vegan food. Although i am no longer eating a vegan diet, i still eat a 90% vegan diet.
That casserole looks lovely, and frugal too
I'm just making a rough meal plan, so am trying to make 3 big meals a week, and have them last 2 days.
Thur + Fri- Vegan Shepherds pie, with veggies and salad
Sat-Baked potato & Cauli cheese
Sun- Chicken/Nut roast with all the trimmings
Mon + Tues- Pasta bake, with veggies and salad
Wed + Thur- Veggie chilli with rice and salad & veggies.
Almost all of this will come from stocks in my pantry/freezer/kitchen cupboards. I just need to buy some ingredients for the nut roast. Plus some salad and snack bits (crisps and biscuits as described before). Although....I'd really like to make my own biscuits, so might get some butter, sugar and choc chips.0 -

Hi Nanny Gladys - I just wanted to say if you get free prescriptions (I see you are retired) - ask your doctor to prescribe your hayfever tablets then you don't have to shell out for them. I get hayfever but am also allergic to some animals so I take an allergy tablet every day; it just occured to me one day to ask for the tablets to be prescribed as I already had eye drops and nasal spray prescribed, and they did so readily. (I am exempt due to underactive thryoid diagnosed as an early teenager).

Thanks WantToBeSE! It was lovely, and although it took a bit of time to prep, it wasn't a *technically* difficult dish at all! Prep time could be cut by cooking the rice the day before and storing in the fridge, also the beans in my case as I did them from dried (but had them soaking from the previous day though so chucked them in with the rice for cooking - hence it all went a bit dark!! :rotfl:I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old Style, Crafting and Techie Stuff boards. If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. Thank goodness for this thread.
Have had 3 NSDs but was planning to go to the supermarket today, not because we need anything but because I told myself "we're 'running low on fruit". (My usual shopping day is Friday , so it would have been an extra unnecessary trip
Only reading your posts I realised that were NOT really running low on fruit at all. I'm so glad I chose to read the thread whilst I finished my cup of tea. You've really got me back on track. We still have lots of apples and oranges, tinned peaches, pineapple, pears and apricots and we don't NEED any more grapes, pears or bananas until we wade our way through the fruit we've still got.
Many thanks to all posters, I really needed the inspiration you've just given me.
Great post, really makes you think twice about going shopping just because "running low" on a particular thing. when theres something already in that can be used. I still have loads of veg but was thinking I NEEDED cauliflower, lol ,I don't, have carrots, parsnips, cabbage, green beans and 3 bags mixed veg in freezer. So wont be going for my WANTED cauliflower this week.
In fact don't think I am going to shop this week at all which will make it 2nd week running and more money to put in bulk buy fund.Slimming World at target0 -
Well done cappella. My son complained that he wanted a banana tomorrow after announcing the one he was about to eat was the last banana. I said it was the last one and we were shopping at the weekend and not before, so he won't be able to have it tomorrow but that there are satsumas, grapes, frozen berries and dried fruit.
No spends by us. Still got great stores of things. Stew has been in the slow cooker all day and smells lovely. Will need to make dumplings soon and I'll report back on the pickled onion experiment later.0 -
Hi everyone
Thanks Elsiepac I will ask when I go for my next check up.
Nothing spent today, had toast for breakfast, soup for lunch and I'm having kale, mash and meatless burgers for dinner, so more stores used up.
Not planning on shopping tomorrow either so I will go through the freezer and do a proper inventory to see what is actually is in there.
Busy day here washing curtains and spring cleaning my bedroom as I'm still sleeping in the spare room after my Xmas guests took over my room (more room and there was three of them - 2adults and small one) nearly done so I will move back in tomorrow night and start on bedroom 2 whilst I'm in the mood. Took the decs down the other day and I keep finding bits I've missed and glitter even though the house is regularly hovered!!!
