Checking in on first spends this week
Yesterday - I had to shop local (more expensive but closer than the supermarket and the cheese was on offer) - so for milk and cheese £3.84
    Today - Sainsbury's 52.15 -
Got 12 Mr Kip mince pies for £1 :).
Instead of O so Simple sachets I bought porridge oats (ingredients exactly the same other than O so has soya lecithin added) only for a large bag of oats only 70p - hoping will taste the same. Unfortunately I've gone off Sains own brand of Weetbix as they've made the biscuits round and since doing so I'm sure they've also changed the ingredients somewhat. I have to race to wolf them down in the morning as the milk seems to sink in a lot faster. Also being round there's more of an overlap so you get a soggy biscuit with a crisp bit on the side. All sounds petty but I hate it when companies change things that you are happy. I'm hoping this lot will last 10 days - lots of veg, some nuts, yogurt - may have to top up fruit and milk before then. Must confess to cheating as £5.50 of this went on wine and chocolate for the weekend - hoping it will last until then! Treats are meant to be if I'm under budget but I don't know that as although I plan to come in at £30 or under a week I won't be main shopping weekly.

Enjoying seeing everyones updates and getting some good advice!

There were loads more ys but I wouldn't get chance to use them before they went off and my freezers are full.

  • Still no spends yet this month, I'm very happy with that... could really do with some kind of sandwich filling for DS15 packed lunch tomorrow, but he'll have to do with crisp sarnies again!! Sure he won't mind and it is Friday after all hehe! This no spending lark is getting quite addictive..!! :rotfl:

  • Unexpected spend this morning due to parent pay not sending through my kids meal orders so had to grab some bits for lunch box - 4.21 spent in Mr a got small shop for lunch and snacks and fruits on Saturday and then big fortnight shop on Monday hoping that will be enough for a while.
Both my husband and I have agreed that we are getting somewhat bored with our current meal repertoire causing us to snack and pick more so will be searching this site and others for some new meals to add to our weekly plan.

Also have a look at the first page of this thread, loads of ideas on there.

  • I would like to join for Feb 6th. I'll be reducing my budget to £130 for the next few months. I'm going to be a little risky and go a few below my current budget, I think it'll be good for me.

NSD here today. Still at £14.73 out of a possible £50, but this will soar tomorrow as we are hosting guests.

We had pizza for dinner to use up turkey leftovers and some sweetcorn from an open tin. It would have been even more delicious with a sprinkling of mozzarella over, but we didn't have any in. So, we did without - and my daughter (who prepared the dough and then rolled and topped her own pizza) declared it 'absolutely fantastic'. I have to agree with her!

We are toying with the idea of allowing her to plan, budget for and then purchase the ingredients for her own packed lunches. This will still come out of the grocery budget but will, hopefully, be an important learning tool for her. She is only ten, but always wants to cook with me. I am hoping this will teach her not only how to plan and budget, but also how to create healthy, balanced meals for herself. Fingers crossed :o

  • Yayyyy!!! Managed a whole NSD!!!

I will be going to the shops tomorrow but going to try and spend as little as possible. I've loads of stuff in to bake with so rather than spend a small fortune on cakes/biscuits ect I'm gonna spend tomorrow baking I think. Literally used my last egg for dinner today though so I will have to go and buy them. Along with milk, pop, cheese and maybe some sandwich meats. If i've no condensed milk left I will buy that too as I can make a full tray of caramel shortbread.

Right off to bed.... Big welcome to all the newbies!

Love reading all your posts to keep me motivated!
