I have turned off my PC and game consoles during storms as sometimes the electricity supply has drops causing the lights flicker and it put my PS3 into recovery mode it didn't cause any lasting harm, but I had to use the rebuild database option some equipment doesn't like the power being cut.

You should also turn your boiler off too - that'll be using electricity when it's not actually heating anything...

I remember driving a van, possibly Renault Trafic, by design, the intermittent wipers would stop when you applied the handbrake.
That saved a bit of fuel.

Your Sky box does not need to be connected to the internet to operate - the only reason, for the first 12 months - is to allow Sky to reap data - ie) Your viewong habits
My HD box does not even come with "wireless" capability anyway !!
