My dad is 90 and his stay on all the time.
He used to turn it off until I managed to convince him that hackers weren't going to come down the wire and rob his house while he slept.0 -
I do not think there is a single answer for everyone. I switch mine off at night and it does not affect my download speed. So, for me, there is no point in leaving it on.
I take the point of those who say that we leave fridges and sky boxes on at night but then to turn the fridge off would result in a loss of food. Switching the sky box off would result in a failed recording. Switching my router off results in no loss at all.
If my router was in the attic I probably would leave it on. If speed was a problem for me then I would probably leave it on. Cost is not an issue: fire hazard is not an issue (as far as I know).
So I turn mine off at night. Some people leave their's on 24/7. No problem. We all have different scenarios. There is no one right way of doing things here.
On a slightly different note how often do you record programs that are on while your in bed?. Also do you switch off your Sky box when you don't have any recordings scheduled that night?.0 -
On all the time.
I only added this so could say, not an IT consultant.{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -
We leave ours on; there's so much stuff connected to it that uses the internet 24/7 so switching it off wouldn't make sense at all. Also I often use the remote record feature on the sky box so the router needs to be on for that also.0

I'm not sure it does, in fact I'm pretty sure you don't actually require BB to use the remote record service, it's an OTA service afaik.
According to Sky the box needs to be connected to broadband

Update: As it happens I just did and can confirm that RR works without your Sky box being connected to the internet. Try it yourself if you have doubts.0 -
Surely you should turn it off during a thunderstorm0
