Do you leave your router on at all times?

I do not think there is a single answer for everyone. I switch mine off at night and it does not affect my download speed. So, for me, there is no point in leaving it on.
I take the point of those who say that we leave fridges and sky boxes on at night but then to turn the fridge off would result in a loss of food. Switching the sky box off would result in a failed recording. Switching my router off results in no loss at all.
If my router was in the attic I probably would leave it on. If speed was a problem for me then I would probably leave it on. Cost is not an issue: fire hazard is not an issue (as far as I know).
So I turn mine off at night. Some people leave their's on 24/7. No problem. We all have different scenarios. There is no one right way of doing things here.0 -
Is it an age thing????
Depends what age you think the tipping point might be at, I'm 58 and the only time I've turned mine off in the last 10+ years was when I was away travelling for 4 months, although the whole house was powered down then.
I used to be an IT Consultant but I'm better now.

Do you turn your windscreen wipers off when you go under a bridge in the rain?0 -
Because there is no reason to leave it on.
If you want to maintain maximum speed - there is !!
When you switch off - equipment at the exchange sees this as "noise" on the line and reduces the speed to what IT considers a stable rate.
Once reduced - the only way to increase it back to the starting speed is to leave it on and either wait (can take several weeks) - or get a BT engineer to reset your profile....
As I said - mine reduced to 13Mbps and a ridiclously low 0.6Mbps upload - from 76/20
This was almost 2 years ago and ever since then, has been left running and has kept its speed.
of course - this is only relevant to Fibre - ADSL doesn't matter so much and as for dial-up - that benefits from a regular reboot !0 -
