Do you leave your router on at all times?

I've never heard or seen a worthwhile argument for turning it off. Mines probably been on for at least 10 years except when changing routers.
There is more than just the PC connected to it.:)
That said, if someone wants to turn theirs off to save a couple of pence then that's fine. I'm not sure it's going to change anybodies life though..;)Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

I'm an IT consultant. I turn my router off whenever I'm out of the house. I don't have any devices or systems that need a constant connection (Smart Home etc). I also have my own router, not an ISP one so don't worry about firmware updates etc.
Regarding the comment on line drops, this is known as training. Whenever a new line is provisioned it goes through training to work out the best trade off between speed and stability. If your line goes off and on *in quick succession several times* it can trigger retraining however turning it off for a few hours or overnight won't trigger retraining. They key for ISPs is that the connection goes off and back on, possibly at a lower speed. Most routers will also cycle through different connection settings if they are having stability problems.
Im also an IT consultant and my router is permenantly switched on.
I see no need at all in turning it off when i leave the house.
The energy saved will be miniscule, and i like my connection to be instantly ready when i want it. Not to have to wait the (albeit small) time for it to re-connect.0 -

Mines on permanently. It sits in the loft so would be a right ballache to switch it on and off0

Shouldn't we be turning the router off, not just when out of the house, but overnight also?
Taking the argument to the extreme, surely it should be turned off for every second during which it is not needed to transmit data?
But leaving the router on all the time will save a minuscule amount on heating costs during cold weather, of course...

You should connect the router using one of those wireless 13A sockets which can be switched on and off via a remote control from the comfort of your computer area.
You'd probably make back on electricity saved the amount the setup cost - in 10 or 20 years!0 -

My router is pfSense running in a VM on my ESXi server. I don't turn it off unless I bring the whole R710 that it runs on down for a hardware upgrade / maintenance.
