Feb 1-7th 2018 DUB -LAS via PHL for 2 staying at Luxor for 767.18euro. (£656.09stg) £328stg each
For that price I can put with the AA flights and basic hotel!
AA now use the newer A330 on that route. You get pre-clearance at DUB so you don't have to collect and reload your luggage. First sector is only 7 1/2 hours with chance to get off and stretch your legs, and grab a cheese steak at Ginos. Whats not to like. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
via expedia.ie with added bonus of avios pts through BA executive club.

*** Warning Vegas Virgin Alert ***
Hello All
Apologies in advance for any stupidity & complete nonsensical waffling of this post
Have been to the States quite a few times, mainly NY & been there 6 times in the last 4 years, the last time being in Nov. A few days ago i thought it was time to plan another trip & i normally end up looking at the best prices for my 2 NY go to hotels & book - job done. But this time i thought maybe i should try somewhere new, i started thinking where & numerous countries came to mind - Belgium, Holland, Italy, Sweden, Canada & of course the US, originally thinking of going in Sept. When i was in NY last i happened to be there when the UFC had it's first event & managed to get tix and it was an amazing event & something i thought i would do again at some point, well i know that they tend to have an event in Vegas at the end of Dec, so i thought why not - so there it was, a plan - Vegas in Dec/Jan
Started browsing around on Tripadvisor, Boooking.com etc & was pleased to find a thread here on MSE - have read the whole of the 2017 thread & it has been very helpful & insightful.
I am thinking of going for at least 21 nights which at the moment are from the 18th Dec to the 8th Jan, i know from checking out various sites that the 30th & 31st Dec are expensive nights but on the whole the prices for the full stay kinda even that out.
Yesterday i was on Booking.com & i think they were having a day of discounts & i saw Tuscany Suites offered at what seemed an excellent price of £1500 or $2000 for 22 nights with free cancellation, so i ended up booking this as it seemed to have some good reviews, though some people complained about it being a 10 min walk to the strip.
Obviously i shall be looking around incase i can find some better offers & take on all suggestions as i have no idea as to what is the best way to do Vegas.
In fact after seeing the above post about Expedia's flights & hotels
i did a quick search & found:
Tropicana £1531
Downtown Grand £1703
Tuscany Suites £1869 (Already better than what i have booked)
W £2086
Tahiti £2159
Haven't checked further to see if there are extra's for flights etc as never booked flight & hotels together before.
As for rooms, not too fussed about much but it would be nice if it had a coffee machine which i've read alot of places don't seem to have for some reason & a fridge
I'm going to stop there but i'm sure i'll have more to comeWhat came first, the music or the misery?
Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?0 -
Tuscany have an under counter fridge, coffee maker, microwave on request, small dining table, and sink. There is a desk for your computer, sofa and chair with coffee table. Opposite the sofa is the bed or beds.
Bathroom has a separate shower, shallow tub, toilet with a door and a single sink on a decent sized counter.
We have stayed there many times and think it's fine for the money.
Enjoy your trip.0 -

Hello All snip ........
The Tropicana although at the southern end of the strip is also a decent hotel plus will save a few £000
So Tuscany £1839 or Tropicana £1531, I would go for the Tropicana only to save money. Remember the resort fees on top which will be $24 or $29 a night respectively.
Before booking I would check that the event is definitely on. Also note as Dec/Jan are the coolest months of the year most of the hotels which close their pools for the winter month.
The man benefit of booking hotels separately is that you have the option to cancel and book a better deal somewhere else whereas with an OLTA once the package is booked changes are more difficult in my experience.
Good luck with your plans.0 -

Thanks for the info - seems to have everything you'd want from a roomWhat came first, the music or the misery?

Hi the time you are going will bump up the prices of course. I have never stayed at the Tuscany but having read reviews it looks a decent mid range hotel and it is within easy walking distance to central strip.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to check the info on the Tropicana & see they how compare - I am aware of the resort fees, though i wasn't before i started looking around.
I would be surprised if the event wasn't on, the UFC have held an event on or around the 31st for at least the past 7 years at either the MGM Grand or the newly opened T-Mobile.
Not too fussed about pool access & would presume most if not all would be closed, obviously it'll be a good excuse to go back again at a different time of the year
I did notice on Expedia that the flight + hotel options were non-refundable and non transferable so i better be sure before choosing that optionWhat came first, the music or the misery?

Got back on Friday from a fantastic 11 night trip. I will try to write a report at some point, but have 2 questions hopefully someone might be able to answer.
1. Grand Canyon Experience Store outside of MGM has closed. Acknowledging that Adidas is shut for renovation, just wondering if there are plans for that area.
2. TC flight home on Thursday 18th had issues with the slide on 1 of the doors, so 40 voluteers were requested to step off the plane and stay an extra night. We needed to be home, so did not ask the details, but now curious if anyone knows what the offer details would have been.0 -
This may already have been mentioned, but thought I'd share. Did a week in Vegas very recently. Not a big gambler at all, so was looking for a cheap way to play roulette. Managed to find a place with 25c chips and a $1 minimum bet, all day Mon-Thu, and I think the minimum bet goes up to $2 Fri-Sun. It's at the El Cortez casino, just at the end of the Fremont Street Experience. I sat down with $20 and had a great time (also walked away with $80, but obviously that was just luck!)
2 was my lucky number :P
P.S. Had great, almost-on-the-strip, accommodation with no resort fees at the 'Royal Resort'. Lovely pool and jacuzzi open til midnight which was very quiet most of the day. Agoda came up with the best price, and got a discount code from them too.0
