not that i am doing sw but they are all low fat i think
Thanks for this site, some fab tasty, low fat things to try!!0 -
Unless you're talking Splenda or stevia, they have little connection with 'real' food, and if I recall correctly at least one (aspartame?) is believed to be carcinogenic.

ooh that sounds good sola, might try it out.
leopardlady how are you feeling now?0 -
Oh gods, too many posts to keep up with, LOL !
Sola, welcome, thanks for your soup recipe and hope you find the thread useful. ifan, can only echo what the other have said - maybe you need to see a specialist dietician ? however it goes, you'll get lots of support here
purplefirth - eating more raw foods would probably be very beneficial to many of us but I'm not a subscriber to the all raw food principle, sorry ! if it works for you that's greatyes the thread is about losing weight but its about losing it slowly and permanently through general balanced sensible everyday eating rather than specialised or faddy eating plans. Yes, eating nowt but raw veg fruit and nuts may make people lose eight quickly and yes its low fat - but its also rather limiting and I can see boredom and subsequent weight gain setting in
Too much sugar, especially in highly processed forms or artificial sweeteners is not good for any of us. Again, checking what goes into your food and moderation is the key
I'm feeling great. Survived the personal horror to me that is shopping in the town centre, bought myself a lovely new crimson silky fleece dressing gown in M & S for 17.50 ! Feels dead luxurious, I can't stop stroking it :P Also resisted the temptation to nap this afternoon - laid out on the sofa and read for an hour or so, then got up and headed into the kitchen for a couple of hours. Made a batch of cheese onion and potato pasties ( used part cubed cooked and part mashed potatoes ) which even with using bought pastry ( I can do shortcrust no problem but its years since I tackled puff pastry ) worked out 1/3rd the price of bought ones and they have loads of lovely filling !
Divided up and froze down some onion poppyseed bagels and brown soda bread I bought today ( I'm going to have a go at making my own soda bread in a couple of weeks time ) plus an ungodly amount of cheese that I grated into a huge container and shoved in the freezer - which will save me from snacking on it !
My freezer is well stocked up enough for me to live off it next week ( am going to be a bit indulgent this week as on annual leave ), so are the cupboards and fridge. I am feeling very happy and relaxed and energetic and really really enjoying spending time in my kitchen again. Dinner is going to be the rest of the butchers sausages, hm onion gravy, skin on mashed potatoes, and baked beans - comfort food mood !" Baggy, and a bit loose at the seams.. "~ November 8th 2008. Evening All,
What alot of posts to catch up on:eek: Blimey our antics are popular!:rotfl:
Have been really busy so not much time to post. Have just increased my hours at work to 5 days so chatting on here has had to wait , boo hoo!
Hope you are all well.
Patientgirl ~ well done on your loss xx
Leopard Lady ~ hope you are feeling better xx
Sola, JennyT and Ifan.goch ~ welcome and good luck x
Have to say this, Please don't lets fall out any of us:o
We are all doing different things in different ways and obviously have different ideas about things. No one is critisising anyone on here, just trying to give helpful advice. PLEASE no one take any comments to heart.;)
I am vegan, and while I know that some of you think that's bonkers, I know I'm in the right and all you carnivors will all go to hell!!:rotfl: Only joking!! (Anyway I'm an Atheist so I don't believe in all that)
I think the ethos of this thread is to loose weight the O/S way. SENSIBLE , healthy eating and portion control. I guess if you think people will "tutt" or say it's "faddy" there's probably a good reason for that!
Having been Annorexic and admitted to hospital 5 times during my teens, Bullimic for 5 years and now a complete piggy Binge eater I think I personally have to be extreamly careful that I don't visit those demons in my head again. They all started with "faddy" eating. When I read about the raw foods only post it bought back a lot of memories. I once existed on 2 oz brown rice and shredded wheat for MONTHS:eek:
I lost HEAPS of weight which was fab, but I started to loose my hair and nails and my breath smelt like a toilet, but hey , I was thin!
I have a DREADFULL relationship with food as most of you know. I would quite happily never eat again. OddsandSodds and MrsM are proper food experts and their advice should be listoned to.
Come on guys , O/S is the weigh to go. It may have taken me 20years to realise that, and it may take me another 20 years to achieve it, but we know it's right xx

A year ago I was diagnosed with cancer, and due to the drugs and inactivity during treatment I put on 2 1/2 stone - yeah I know everyone thinks you lose weight with cancer but don't you believe it
Anyway, I am now on Tamoxifen for the next 5 years, and I can't shift this extra weight at all. It doesn't matter if I starve myself or eat like a pig, nothing changes. Also, my exercise levels have increased vastly over the last 2 months and that seems to make no difference either  Having gone through an early menopause due to chemo I no longer feel the need to eat chocolate on a regular basis, and in fact hardly eat it now. Here's a sample day's food:
Breakfast - porridge made with water and a teaspoon of honey and a cup of herbal tea.
Lunch - Wholemeal bread sandwich with thin spread of organic butter and a slice of cooked meat, low calorie vegetable cup a soup, 1 or 2 pieces of fresh fruit.
Dinner - Small portion of lean meat, small portion of boiled or mashed potato (made with low calorie soft cheese instead of butter), 2 large portions of home grown veg.
No snacks, crisps, choc or alcohol.
I walk the dog at least a mile daily, and on weekends I walk further.
I really don't know what else I can do  The doc says that it is not the Tamoxifen, and that I must increase my exercise and be patient, but surely its not natural for your weight to remain constant for 9 months through all this turmoil? Has anyone been in a similar situation, and if so, how did you overcome it:question:
I gained weight on slimming world , lost a few pounds on both GL and High Fibre diets , but I get so fed up with the limited diet and same recipes I gave up. Now trying to just eat healthily but not deny myself anything (in small quantity) if I really want it . Thinking of trying the Paul McKenna method as it seems most sustainable over the long term , but it is very difficult to retrain your brain and taste buds to stop eating when you are full and not to keep eating till you are stuffed!:DStarted my own business and loving being my own boss
