ooooooohhhhhhhhh, more OU peeps in here too, they seem to pop up everywhere lately. I am on my final 2x60pts L3 courses, I definately eat more when studying - stress related eating. This is one habit I hope to break this year.
Had Pizza Hut for birthday dinner with huge cheesecake dessert.........

I'm ex OU - got my degree in 2000 but know the perils of eating and studying, I often used to wonder how whole packets of biscuits could disappear whilst reading a chapter :rotfl:
I just had lentil sausages, SW chips and mixed veg for my tea, I'll have a yoghurt in a bit and maybe a packet of ryvita minis for supper. I've packed OH off for a swim/sauna so have the house to myself YAY:j :j
Going to phone a friend and might do some tapestry or might be decadent and paint my toenails;)0 -

I adapted this from a recipe I saw in the latest edition of BBC Good Food magazine according to what I had on hand, the original recipe - some different ingredients/quantities - this turned out wonderfully.
1.5 lb carrots peeled and chopped
little butter and /or oil
1 medium leek cleaned and sliced
1 small onion finely chopped
couple generous pinches of crushed chillies
ditto powdered coriander
thumbsized piece of fresh root ginger, peeled and grated finely
1 level dessertspoon runny honey
3.5 pints veg stock
Melted a knob of butter in my lovely new 20cm saucepan, added a slosh of sunflower oil. Gently fried off the aromatics ( chilllies, ginger, coriander ) for a couple of minutes, then added the onion, 2 mins more, then the leeks, 2 mins more. Added the carrots & honey, 1 min more and then the stock... brought to the boil, then turned down and simmered for about 20-25 mins ( needed less time than original recipe ) Used my wand blender to blend in batches and returned to pan.
I served it with a dollop of yoghurt and some snipped chives ( and a cheese scone) The honey flabour is not overwhelming but accentuates the natural sweetness of the carrots, and the spices gave it a nice gentle kick.

Morning all. Haven't been sleeping well so feeling grumpy today - have to try avoid buying chocolate
Had MrsM's Moroccan fish last night. Lovely tastes but the fish fillets were a bit on the thin side so overcooked. Didn't cook it for as long as the recipe said either. Would be much nicer with some decent size cod fillets  Did disguise the fish well though - and would probably be lovely with chicken breasts too.
OH said it was... different. But I liked it and I'm the cookworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Remembering when i was a kid and money was tight in our house, mum used to bulk out meals like cottage pie with loads of veg from the garden ie broccoli, carrots etc. so that only half the amount of meat was needed. Berakfask in the winter months was porridge, but made the scotts way , oats are soaked in water with a wee bit salt, then when hot you added cold milk and a wee bit sugar or golden syrup!! You can make quick healthy porridge this way in the microwave, it takes only 2 mins, only these days i have it for my lunch as it keeps me going the rest of the day without the urge for snacks..... so for a few pence a cholesterol lowering diet lunch which is satisfying. Plus i have a very physical job , so i have to be well fuelled.
Good luck everybody in your quest.0 -
Morning everyone...
Well i didn't get on here last night, as hubby got home from golf early enough to go and bowl in the league team..so i went along and went to the supermarket underneath -only came out with sensible stuff.... i ignored the lebekuchen on your behalf Newlywed... and then went and sat and watched the team... well that kept me out of the kitchen:D
well had my 2 weetabix this morning and dinner tonight is going to be corned beef hash n dumplings..well dumpling for me..they are my fave and im not giving them up ..or anything else for that matter, there will be loads of onions, carrots, celeriac, swede..some potatoes and half a tin of cornedbeef.. but it will probably leave leftovers.... gutted i couldn't get hold of any parsnips... they seem to be as rare as rockinghorse droppings out here at the moment  ..so as soon as i spot some..im having them all and blanching and freezing them
Patentgirl - well done on the loss....:T glad hubby will soon have you back with us
Snoozer.... it was only 1 ickle bar im sure and it was free... which is the best kind you could have eaten:D ..don't worry about it
Kittyscarlett... guess what book i have on the PC desk at the moment?? "just like mother used to make" :rotfl: my mum got that and "English puddings -sweet and savoury" by mary norwak... but wasn't impressed with them so she gave them to me :T ..it would have been rude to say NO..
The parsnip + caraway cake and the lemon+poppy seed cakes (pg57)look nice - without frosting - don't like frosting blughhhh
That soup looks like my kind of thing too...might miss the chilli out..will try it out on hubby, but he isn't usually a fan of "sweet" that is suposed to be savoury..if that makes sense..mind if i leave the chilli in..he would be happier and i can use a dollop of creme fraiche/yog to cool mine down... im a girly wuss:o ..and i have just got another 3kilo of carrots....fate me thinks.. think that will have to be tried this weekend:D
Glad you got the nice extra bits you were looking for.... can't beat good sausages.. i make my own now... and im sure the machine has paid for itself by now..hubby would live on them if i let him get away with it... didnt get to use it for the BBQ season as we were in between homes then..well we had left the UK address and in a german hotel waiting for the army to hand over this one...otherwise it would have earnt its keep even quicker... an average pork and beef sausage is working out about 10p and thats not including if the meat is on offer:T and you eat less as i don't put breadcrumbs n stabilisers in..just meat n herbs...
Rockie..what tapestry are you doing? i am a nosy moo...love to know what projects others are doing.... hope it kept your fingers busy
Redmel....hope you enjoyed every mouthfull..especially the cheesecake:drool: :silenced: go on rub it in..what flavour did you have... i don't mind if it was choc..don't like that one.. lemon, blueberry, cherry..now thems the ones:D .
Hope you had a great day
Frogga...have we found another food you don't like:rotfl:..... heck i could write all the foods i don't like on the back of a postage stamp.....
whitebait
oysters
popcorn/ricecakes... they squeak.. and salted smells like sweaty feet
fennel-in fact anything anaiseed..eughhhh
pork scratchings... i think thats about it :rotfl:
Hope all is well at the lilypad..you are being rather "quiet" at the moment:p
djtonyb...... well done :T thats a great loss.... keep up the good work:j
Debtfree.... i have a great memory for useless information that i read years ago..but remembering what i did yesterday is a whole different case:o .. thought i had better confess my secret
I think when you go to WW etc... you seem to feel as though ooh should i be doing what everyone else is doing etc.. on here we all do our own thing and its great....
keep up the good work on the exercise.. im gonna have to join you eventually.... right now im using lots of house work and some walking as exercise... plus hubby and i are going to start going bowling regularly... i have to be honest and say that i think until i have shifted a fair bit more weight im really restricted to what i can do, as i have a problem with the fluid in my spine and around my brain (yes froga... i have one;) ).... but i know im going to have to do it to hopefully stop me ending up with saggy skin...
Well folks.. i think i have caught up with you all..sorry for the "war and peace" essay... see what happens when i go away for a few hours..
hope we all have a great day.... keep up the good work..:j-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50
