I Like my food plain, and not with stuff on and I don't like all the different bits touching on the plate and looking messy. And I like all the green things like watercress, and leaves and Curly Kale. And dried Fruit and Bombay mix:T

  • I wonder if an oatmeal and mixed seeds coating similar to MrsM's for big portabella mushrooms cooked in the oven would work ? with the underside brushed with oil or vegan spread. You could use one of the tofu spreads or maybe silken tofu mixed with mustard or preferred flavourings as a sauce.

thanks to everyone who has been nice to me. incisional hernia not so scary since i got my head round it. i have been reffered to my orgional consaultant, dont get me started on nhs choose and book, awaiting appointment from hospital outpatient department. dr says consaultant will suggest loosing more weight so i guess i will have to keep up healthy eating.
for those who are wondering the proceedure i had previously was a cholycystectomy to remove my gallbladder but they had to abandon the laproscopic way and make a large open cut for safty reasons.
i will stop now we dont want a medical thread - those really are scarey:eek:
Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"
  • Ok sillyvixen - I don't know what an incisional hernia is and sorry you are suffering from one :) but now you've explained it, I did have a cholycystectomy under the same circumstances about 14 years ago - they started doing a lapro but it wasn't successful so had to go the other route. I still have the large scar across my tummy ( they also whipped out my appendix whilst they were there, how wude ! :P ) plus the three lapro incision scars. They have faded over the years though.

Speaking from experience, not only will you probably have to try and keep up the efforts to maintain healthy eating generally but you really will have to make even bigger efforts to really cut down on fat for a good while... slowly you will be able to introduce a little more over time. I got out of the habit of frying food and eating takeways years ago as an overload of fat makes me pretty ill ( saying that, since focussing on OS eating I have used my frying pan more times in two weeks than in the past year or so LOL - but for cooking omelettes/saute potatoes mainly ) My fat vices these days are cheese which I find hard to resist, chocolate, crisps and shop sandwiches. Even with some downfalls, I really have noticed the benefits on cutting down on these the last couple of weeks. Don't worry, if you keep visiting this thread you will get lots of support to help keep you on track so don't give up ! :)

  • Having done well enough for the last couple of days, I fell off the wagon again (so beware, fellow travellers, there's now a large crater on the highway :) ). Probably because TOTM is looming large, I found myself fighting an enormous case of the munchies all evening. I knew I wasn't hungry, I knew I didn't want the feeling of any more food in my stomach - it wasn't complaining at all - and didn't even crave any particular food or flavour. I just wanted the feeling in my mouth of eating something substantial - even shredded carpet would probably have done. Am I the only one who ever feels like this sometimes? Like it wouldn't bother me if the food never made it to my stomach at all. I know I don't even fancy eating it, I just need the feeling of eating it. Weird. Maybe I should take up chewing the ends of biros like schoolkids do.

Anyway, this eventually culminated in the untimely demise of a sausage roll, a flapjack and a chocolate chip cookie (home-made. I haven't let standards slip entirely - this was OS bingeing ;) ), all at a stupidly late hour. Needless to say, I didn't actually enjoy any of it (the shredded carpet would have done as much for me!), but the munchie craving has gone. I'm not so much feeling regretful as feeling slightly worried that this may be the start of some slippery slope. I've seen off ten pounds since we started this, and don't want them to think I was only waving them off on holiday.

I do feel a bit relieved to have given in though. If I hadn't cracked when I did, I think I'd be slamming the fridge-freezer between two slices of bread by now and munching on that. Perhaps if I'd given in sooner I'd have stopped at the sausage roll. Oh well... tomorrow's another day...

Hope everyone else has had a successful one :)
Eek! Someone's stolen my signature!

Just a very quick check in. I haven't read this thread for days and will hopefully sit down and go back ten pages or so and have a good read on everyones progress. I have been going quite well. I have made banana porridge for breakfast today which is just 2 bananas grated into oats with water. Lunch is a chicken and sweet potato and veggie soup that I had for dinner last night and dinner is seafood pasta (I'm trying to use up everything in the freezer as I'm due to be moving soon.)
Getting there... A deal at a time. :T
  • TOo late - I saw that frogga!

Sounds to me like you haven't had pasta or other food cooked properly and for a vegan your diet is really limited....................... Why are things 'yucky?' think about it and PM me! Lots of vitamins etc in herbs + spices............ garlic helps your immune system - fewer colds.

Odds ~ You are probably right about not having these foods cooked properly ~ well , you know where I live , how about coming round and giving me a demo!!:rotfl:

I do like spices as I like chilli , but I do very plain cooking and haven't got the confidence to do the herbs thing. I know garlic bread is nice! But it makes your breath smell too doesn't it?

I think if I ever get my "issues" with food sorted I might become more adventurous. I think we fit into catagories on here , and I am in the " has serious food issues" catagory!:rotfl: As you all know I've had all 3 major eating dissorders. I would really like to not have to eat at all. If I could just give up food completely and never have to think about it again I'd cope. The problem is , unlike an alcoholic or drug addict , I have to give myself a fix at least 3 times a day, and then STOP. It's hell sometimes. I'd rather just avaid it all together , but that's when the annorexia will come back to the front of my mind again so I cant do that.

I have seen a dietician at the Ipswich Hospital who has gone through my Vegan diet with a fine tooth comb so please don't worry. She has agreed that although it's obviously restricted it is a very healthy option if done correctly. I would not have gone into anything like this uneducated and I promise I have read up fully on how I am getting all my nutrients :T I'm never off sick from work and don't get colds et.c and both tadpoles are veggie and neither of them have had a day off school EVER except when thay had the chicken pox when they were 5 and 6 ( although tadpole 2 is off today as he was up all night coughing and is shattered ) It's nice to know you are worried about me though oddsy xxx

Pand P ~ yes , I am one of those too. When it comes to binging I am the master ~ go back a few pages and read about the time I had to have my stomach pumped after eating too much! I have binged on frozen chips if there wasn't anything else , and I have stollen from my kids piggy banks to buy binge food, although I did put it back.

When I'm on a binge, it doesn't usually even hit the sides. However, that was then. This is now , and I DONT DO IT ANYMORE!:T

Have a good day all , hi MrsM xx
