MRSMACAWBER... please don't call a Gyros a kebab... it's LUSH. I used to live in Gutersloh and there was a Gyros place right next to the Claas factory (combine harvesters and other stuff) and you could never call a kebab a gyros. For the uninitiated, a gyros looks like a kebab in that they cook it on a stick like a Doner, but it is CHUNKS of lamb, not the minced rubbish they stick on a doner over here. A gyros is HEAVEN. What I wouldn't give right now for a gyros. In fact Chelsea are playing FC Schalke soon, I might have to pop over the Germany just to get one (and see my Mighty Blues)
But no, a Gyros is not OS by any stretch of the imagination... kudos to you Mrs M for swerving it. I couldn't have!!0 -
Morning everyone
Well i have been up for far too long:rolleyes: ..... thought i'd do quick post before going and getting some cooking done.
Hubby left for golf at 7:15 this morning  .... middle of the night im sure..
Still it leaves me all morning to get some stuff done whilst its nice n quiet:T
Mean marie..... glad you enjoyed your meal last night.... sounds a very nice meal you had ... never been a fan of meringue, but pavlova is the exception..think the cream balances the sweetness of the meringue mmmm
Well it is sooo miserable out side - i had a peek through the curtains.. and decided to leave them shut for now
Had a peach n raspberry yoghurt for brekkie and a cuppa..... can feel another cuppa coming on - before i make a start  ....
Lunch will probably be some ryvita and low fat cream cheese/meat spread.... unless i end up eating loads of carrots when im cooking....in which case - i won't bother... always end up stuffed when im doing veggies:D
Dinner tonight is going to be pork and veg pie with heaps of veggies... just have to keep hubby off the sausages until the have stood in the fridge overnight.. so he can have them tomorrow:D
Hope everyone has a good day - good luck to those weighing in the morning
Hi sallysrm....... so sorry..don't know how else to describe gyros....:o ... but i really don't rate them...hubby adores them - guess thats what to expect when he has spent 18 year out here before we met.... i love the Krautsalad though...... now that IS addictive:D

Good morning all! Not sure if I was good yesterday or not...............
Had a small bowl of porridge w/milk raisins and cinnamon for brekie. then a wrap with LF creamcheese and apricot chutney, 1/2 a pepper, 1 carrot and 1/3 of a cucumber for lunch and 5 M+S jaffa cakes. Dinner was 2 1/2 corn on the cobs, with butter a glass of milk and 1/2 a mango for dessert, and about 1 oz of dk chocolate as well. I know i didn't eat any meat! Soemtimes I dont', tho I'm not a veggie.
Didn't eat dinner the night before as my tummy was 'funny'. I tossed the corn relish I made, I had some and wondered if it was that so decided I wasn't gonna take the chance, funny, that was the only one I wasn;t sure would keep................
Having leftover roast duck with barley risotto tonight, cabbage and some other veg................ Gonna freeze someof the duck meat and bones as well today.
Oh, and I decided today that I'm going to make up some shoeboxes to send to the soldiers abroad instead of buying junk for me, whatever I would have spent on junk, I'll spend on them! Supposed to cost £5 to fill a shoebox, so I should get a fair few filled!! LOL - anyone else want to join me??0 -
That's a nice idea Odds, how do we do it?Say it once, say it loud ~ I'm an Atheist, Anti-Royalist, Socialist, Tea-Total Veggie Frog and PROUD!:D

Good morning all!
I do hope you don't mind me joining in with this; I've been following this post for a few days now and I think you're all really fabulous in the way you help and encourage each other.
I too could do with losing some weight, so will be taking your tips and advice. If I may, I'd also like to offer a little of my own inspiration.
In March 2006, at the age of 42, I invested in a pair of decent Asics running shoes (discounted to £25) and a proper running T-shirt (a tenner). Shorts I had already. I had NEVER run before, but was determined to do the 3 mile Race for Life, so started training. I didn't think there was much more you could learn about yourself at that age, but I realised that running makes me feel GREAT!! I completed the Race for Life, then continued my training and, in October 2006, at the grand old age of 43, I ran my first Half Marathon in Amsterdam!! What I'd like to say is that, although I was never skinny, I DID lose some weight, and when training I never felt bad about eating. I'm also asthmatic, but found that my lungs were greatly strengthened and improved from regular running. Also, I was, and still am, a really slow runner; it doesn't matter! I run for the sheer joy of it, and crossing the Finish Line and getting a medal is the most wonderful feeling! I've since run the Prague Half Marathon and am now in training for Berlin.
So, as well as eating a sensible diet, I do hope my words might encourage one or two of you out there to perhaps take up running too. I'm living proof that you don't have to be slim to do it!
The very best of luck to all of you.
DutchyToto, something tells me we're not in Kansas anymore......0 -
Take a shoe box and fill it up with sweets and toiletries, a letter from you w/ your address so the soldier can thank you if he/she wants.... there are some banned things, like xmas crackers, lighters etc. (anything that might go BOOOM!) I'll email you, frogga!0

Hi dutchy, welcome on board! What an inspirational story. I'd like to run but I think my ample boosoms would give me black eyes!:rotfl:
